5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: People said it was big, but it seems reasonable to me, there are bigger ones out there. Had no issue with ram clearance, in fact, I could park my car between the top of the ram and the bottom of the fan.

Keeps CPU cool and can't even hear the fan.

Oh, and only $20 on sale.

Cons: Didn't come with my CPU?

Other Thoughts: I have a 4th gen Intel so I probably didn't need it but nobody wants to say they're rocking the stock cooler...

5 out of 5 eggsVery impressed/pleased with purchase

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: Using the 212+ in my new FX-6300 build. This was my first custom build, so I started with just the stock heatsink/fan at first since I don't plan on doing anything too crazy with the computer. The fan worked well enough - the socket stabilized at 60C and the core at 50C running Prime 95 - but it got LOUD. The fan got up to ~5,500 RPM and it was noisy. I wasn't worried about the temperature, since everything I read online seemed to indicate those were fine temps, but I wanted something quieter.

I purchased the 212+ when it had a $10 MIR, so the price was great. Installation was extremely simple on my ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 in a RAIDMAX Vortex V4 case. The fan never got above ~1,500 RPM running Prime 95 and blends in with the other chasis fans so I really don't hear much more than background white-noise, even when it's spinning at its highest.

The biggest surprise, though, came in the temperature difference. I wasn't worried about the temperature as it was, but this thing dropped the socket temperature from 60C to 50C and the core from 50C to 34C under load using Prime 95. During idle the temperature is low enough that the sensors get thrown off and it just bounces around between ~10-20C (which is obviously wrong since that's cooler than the ambient temperature). I used the included thermal compound.

Needless to say, I am pretty impressed. Great purchase.

Cons: Not really a con, but something to take note of: This sucker is pretty big. It's just under 160 mm high, so make sure your case will fit it.

Other Thoughts: Contrary to some comments, the heatsink/fan can be installed either horizontal (i.e. parallel to the GPU and perpendicular to the RAM) or vertical (i.e. parallel to the RAM and perpendicular to the GPU). Depending on the size of your board, it may cover one or more of your RAM slots, especially if you install horizontally. I installed it vertically so the fan blows though the heatsink and toward my rear case fan. The fan is pretty close to covering my first RAM slot, but I could still use it by taking the RAM out, installing the fan, and then re-installing the RAM.

3 out of 5 eggsA good product.

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: Easy to install good cooling performance over all good.

Cons: sharp fins and even some bent ones out of the box, in places even metal burs, the fan is shaking my whole desk, and is quite loud when above 1500 rpm.

Other Thoughts: my ram is a little tall (g-skills ripjaws) so i have to pull th eair rather than push not a big deal.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat aftermarket cooler but huge

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: -Reduced my AMD FX-8350 temps by 10-15C
-Fan doesn't sound like a jet engine taking off like the fan did on my stock fan that came with the processor
-Asking price is ridiculously low for what I got.

Cons: -Instructions for screwing in the heatsink to the motherboard standoffs was not well documented.
-Screwing in the heatsink was difficult at times trying to get the screwdriver around the heatsink itself to get to the screws.

Other Thoughts: This heatsink takes up a lot of room. Once I got everything installed in my mid tower case and put the side panel on the heatsink was about 1mm from my side panel. Make sure you have decent width to your case before installing or buying. Also recommend getting a second 120mm fan to put on the other side of the heatsink. Increased airflow a lot. nd last but not least make sure you plug in the cpu fan plug first before attaching the fan to the heatsink. Unless you have tiny hands its a pain to reach down through the small space between the heatsink and top of the case (depends on your motherboard and case but felt like mentioning it anyway as it can happen).

4 out of 5 eggsCPU Cooler

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: Looks to be a quality product and comes with everything one would need to cool a mobile home with.(R-12 sold separately)

Cons: Absurdly huge cooling fan. You will need a mid-tower to server case to fit the beast in.

Delivery girl strained her back unloading it from truck.

Other Thoughts: My fault for quick purchase and not reading other peoples comments or product dimensions. I guess the mid tower is now going to be HTPC.

3 out of 5 eggsMore then 3 years ownership

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: I have a amd 640 propus oc to 3.745ghz from 3ghz.
It keeps it from overheating as long as I don't max the cpu for more then 10 minutes, I never do that.
Without oc it would keep temps somewhere in the 50C with prime95 and run fine.

Cons: The fan is all ways maxed out.
It is a rather tall heatsink, the copper pipes hit my sidepannel a bit because my case has a door handle there. The fins also hit my casefan on my sidepannel, bending some fins, at the very corner.
Apevia x-jupiter g type not the mini.

The copper pipes at the base are not very flush at all, their about 1-2mm away from the block.

Installation on my first time was very difficult, had issues getting the screws to thread in and then it would make it harder to thread in the others when I got them in. (3 year ago)
I did it about 2-3 more times not that long ago and it was easyer but there where still alignment issues with the X piece and the screws lining up to their holes. Not plug and play.

Other Thoughts: I'm building a I7 rig soon. To keep the costs down I didn't buy a heatsink. (one heck of a splurge on gear, for me anyways)
I wonder if I may take it out of my old computer or not as the case is micro atx and meant to be taken places. The stock intel cooler I hoper to bee good enough and looks more tidy then this big cooler.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Cooler

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: Using with a i5-3570K at 4.3GHz. Fits on my motherboard no problem. Reduced my overclocked CPU maximum temps by about 7C on the Prime95 test. (note that prime95 100% maxes out your CPU. The temps listed are not the average temps during the test but the absolute maximum that I could reach.) My Corsair Air Series SP120 High Performance Edition 120mm fan fits perfectly with the included brackets and allowed me to shave a few degrees more off max temps. The cooler also was able to fit over my low-profile Corsair Vengeance ram sticks without any problem. All in all it is definitely worth $20 (On sale with mail-in-rebate).

Cons: None, this product meets my expectations.

Other Thoughts: Note that in order to mount this cooler your going to need to have access to the back of your motherboard. My case allowed me to install the mounts without any problems but depending on your case you may have to remove your motherboard, but this is unlikely if you have a gaming case of any kind.

5 out of 5 eggsOOOH Yes

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: It keeps my FX-8320 cool despite overclocking. Direct contact copper pipes makes it a good choice if you don't want to buy the 212 EVO.

Cons: It's a bit difficult to install, but that's about it.

Other Thoughts: It's a fantastic heatsink. If you don't want watercooling and a great heatsink without spending too much money, this is your choice.
