5 out of 5 eggsCoolmaster 212

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: Nice size cooler, comes with thermal paste, 120mm 4pin CPU fan and bracket for adding second fan.

Cons: CPU fan rattles at 675 RPM or less

Other Thoughts: well worth the price even with a noisy fan for the performance over stock coolers

5 out of 5 eggsCold. Quiet.

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: Much quieter and much cooler than the stock Intel heatsink. It's easy to swap the fan for a flashy one, if you're so inclined, and it comes with brackets for a second fan if you wanted to do a push-pull setup. The included thermal paste seems to be very adequate. Very happy with this product.

Cons: The instructions have very small black and white photographs, which might be irritating for users unfamiliar with installing aftermarket heatsinks. There are plenty of youtube videos of people installing this heatsink however, and it's not difficult.

Other Thoughts: I didn't buy it to overclock, just to be a cooler quiet alternative to the stock CPU cooler.

1 out of 5 eggs"Quiet" fan rattles

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: The fan's cooling capacity was rated higher than the processor's OEM fan and reasonable cost due to the rebate

Cons: CPU fan was more difficult to assemble than other after-market fans. Even with metal anchors to screw fan and fan bracket onto the motherboard, the whole assembly did not "feel" tight and solid. Why does it feel this way? When booting, fan makes an irritable rattling noise because it vibrates (fan is only snapped on to the cooling fins by clips) or is hitting the RAM module (or something else). This forces the motherboard to display a temperature problem and ask user to press F1 (BIOS). After getting out of BIOS (by pressing F10), the computer boots up and eventually (after 10-20 min), the CPU fan quiets down by itself.

Other Thoughts: The poorly designed CPU fan, difficulty in assembling the fan, and potential for the CPU to overheat, makes this CPU fan not worth any cost. Even $0 would not persuade me to put this fan on an expensive CPU.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic!

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: I don't normally write reviews, but the Hyper 212 plus blew past my expectations. I'm writing this review for those who are building a silent system.

Purchased for use in a silent system under constant load. Stock intel cooler for i7-4790s (no overclock) was too loud. This cooler is completely silent with my own undervolted (5v) fan (not the MB controlled fan that is included, which is audible even when it revs up moderately) and arctic silver 5 (temps 47-56C with ~60% load). Between 10-15 C lower (at 5v) compared to the stock cooler! Was even able to keep the cpu (under load) under 70C passively, but wouldn't recommend it - temps started creeping up near the high 60s after 15 minutes or so, and i put the fan back on.

Overall, a very impressive heatsink for the price that exceeded my expectations. I'm a happy customer!

Cons: The instructions may have the motherboard backplate on backwards (tells you to keep the sticker side facing the MB). However, in this arrangement, the screws won't reach the screw holes from the other side. Check out any of the many how-to videos on youtube for the hyper212+ if you're in doubt.

Other Thoughts: Included fan is not silent, but Cooler Master doesn't make that claim, so I don't hold it against them.

1 out of 5 eggsVery unhappy.

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: Have owned before, was very good.

Cons: Brackets suck.

Other Thoughts: I am very mad. Just purchased this for my 8350 chipset with a ASUS M5A97 R2.0. Brackets did not fit, everytime I would get one side on the other side would lift up was insane. After reading through google and doing research on youtube (to see if I could attempt it) people said it's able to install. Not sure if this was for the 2.0 seeing as it just came out. Very hard to squeeze on, nut for the bracket got stripped inside the motherboard and took an hour to get one single nut out. I have put in a return to newegg hoping to recieve one bag to go a different route. Do not suggest this product for amd 8350 chipset or the mobo that I have. Trust me, you will understand! Please fix this bracket issue alot of people are having this problem. I've had this product years ago on an older computer with no problem. Loved it.

:/

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect everything

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: The thing just works!! It keeps my FX-6300 nice and cool during gaming and benchmarks while looking super nice in my case! The highest reported temp using HW Monitor was 33 degrees Celsius and that was while running benchmarks.

Cons: Had to bust out a hammer and give my side panel a slight bowl shape... but it now fits! Other than that none at all!

Other Thoughts: It is a bit big so do your homework as you can only cut once and measure twice.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic cooler

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: Idling CPU temp on my i7-4790 is 31C.
Temp of my CPU during two hours of heavy use was 58C.

The temp immediately dropped right down after ending heavy usage. CPU hasn't gone above 60C.

Fan is detachable, can go on either side of heatsink.

Cons: Bulky and kind of a pain to install but it's worth the end result.

Other Thoughts: Heat sink is massive. Make sure to insert your RAM first. Obviously, attach the screws for the base of the fan to the motherboard before putting your MB in your case. Unless both side panels are removable.

I used arctic thermal 5 for compound.

5 out of 5 eggsMonster!

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: Seems to cool effectively, Included hardware provides some forgiveness when you make mistakes.

Cons: Huge and heavy. Check your RAM and case clearance!

Other Thoughts: OK, probably not the biggest cooler out there, but this is my first aftermarket cooler. I decided to install the CPU and RAM first, with the mobo outside the case, thinking with the heavy cooler on it would be awkward to get into the case. Two issues when I installed this cooler: (1) it was tricky getting the fan to plug into the mobo, because I couldn't get my hand between the cooler and case - and my hands are not that big. (2) The fan brackets are pre-arranged to blow into the heatsink, which means if you want to vent the CPU heat out the back, verify you have enough RAM clearance. Which I did not do carefully enough. Fortunately, some extra hardware was provided, I was able to change the fan brackets to the other side of the fan, so now mine "sucks" the heat from the CPU, and blows out the back. I was even able to change the fan mounting with the heatsink still installed.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Deal

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: Cools my computer fast, easy installation, 2 years its still going strong.

Cons: Get's really dirty after a couple months or so, requires a lot of cleaning in the span of a year.

Other Thoughts: It's alittle bulky specially with certain MBs that have the RAM slots close to the CPU. Make sure to know your rig space before you put in a fan of this mid size.
