4 out of 5 eggsA lot of cool for your buck

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: Cheap and effective. Not as good as some of the more ridiculous things but not a bad option at all.

Cons: None really. Good for what it is.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat and inexpensive

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: It is _extremely_ hard to justify any other cooling solution unless space is a factor or the user is looking for an extreme overclock.
This is quiet and a great performer.
This thing is nearly as good as solutions which cost 2-4x as much, and those weigh much more (stress motherboard) and are often less quiet.

Cons: Stock fan is not particularly quiet. I recommend Noctua or Scythe. Do some reading regarding PWM vs voltage regulation, and whether your mobo will support variable speeds on a 3-pin fan.
Throw out the provided thermal paste and buy some new stuff. "Less is more" for thermal paste -- if you used more than a grain of rice worth you are hurting your rate of transfer.

5 out of 5 eggsyou might need to buy more cooling fans.

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: I bought this to replace the stock one: a intel i7 920 heatsink and cooling fan. I replaced it to cool my overclocked processor. I got better temperatures while using that new heatsink. It used to be around 35c to 40c (idle) now it is around 25c (idle).

Cons: I did not use the thermal paste that came with it in the package. I bought and applied the arctic silver 5 paste.

5 out of 5 eggsBig and cool

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: It's a solid heatsink, and well deserved of its reputation. I found it pretty easy to install, and it keeps my AMD 860K nice and cool. I'm running stock speeds, so no need to go up a notch to the 212 EVO version.

Cons: Not really a con, but it's big. My mATX board has just enough space to attach it around the other components, so I hope I don't have to replace the ram any time soon. No -egg for that, though, it's pretty obvious what you're getting into here.

Other Thoughts: For a beefier cpu, I'd go for the 212 EVO, but this guy still works really well for most.

1 out of 5 eggsDOES NOT FIT OLDER 1366 SOCKET MOBOS!!

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: Unknown.

Cons: Does not fit older 1366 socket motherboards!

Other Thoughts: I have an MSI BIG BANG XPOWER motherboard, with a 1366 socket. I have an OLD Intel i7 980x 1366 socket CPU.

I don't know if it's the age of the motherboard or what.. but the standoff screws and smaller screws for the backplate DO NOT fit through the motherboard.

I'm currently using an old Swiftech water cooler/heatsink for the CPU, but I'm tired of having to replace pumps and water, so I opted for this fan. Clearly the screws for the Swiftech CPU heatsink are SMALLER and screw into the board. I have seen videos of the installation and the standoff screws simply slide right through the motherboard. That is NOT the case at all with my MSI BIG BANG XPOWER mobo.

This kit is therefore ***NOT*** compatible with some, or all, older 1366 socket motherboards !!!

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Mike M,

We appologize for the trouble that you are experiencing with the Hyper 212 Plus. The Hyper 212 Plus is compatible with the 1366 socket but fitment will vary depending on how the motherboard is designed. You are probably having trouble with the installation due to the large heatsinks around the socket on the MSI Big Bang Xpower.

Please contact us for further assistance with the installation.

Respectfully,
Patrick

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for price tag

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: Great for the price tag, it is like the 212 plus evo. I got it to fit with all 4 of my ram sticks which I thought was going to be an issue. The only annoyance was getting the AMD bracket on as it's quite difficult for fidgety hands.

Cons: Listed above. Not really a con though.

Other Thoughts: Great

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome cooler!

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: Does awesome job with keeping CPU cool under load.
Flexible arrangement options. (multiple fan mount options, can set left/right or up/down airflow configuration)

Cons: Universal Mounting Bracket didn't fit the case.
Blade edges are sharp. Handle with care or you can cut yourself.

Other Thoughts: I took one egg off for the universal bracket. The AMD screw holes caused it to be too big for my case. I had to cut part of the sheeting in the case to get it to fit. Had this come with 2 seperate mounting brackets (one for Intel, one for AMD) this should have fit perfect and I would have had no issues. This turned a 30 minute tops process into a several hour process where I had to tear out the entire PC, mod my case, and rebuild it.

Otherwise, this heatsink is awesome. I'm running an i7 960 at full load and never getting over 50C. Now I have room to OC this baby!
