Cooler Master's CPU cooler, the RR-VTPS-28PK-R in a low profile design, is a universal cooling solution for AMD and Intel processors in HTPC and slim-type chassis. The Vortex 752 has features normally reserved for more expensive coolers.

A pure copper base provides optimal thermal transference from the CPU and the surplus heat is transported via twin copper heat pipes to the aluminum cooling fins. A 92mm fan with multi-air inlet provides superior, silent 18 dBA cooling for the CPU and the surrounding components.

The mounting bracket is designed for allowing the RR-VTPS-28PK-R to easily attach to a wide variety of Intel LGA775 processors as well as AMD CPUs using the AM2/754/939/940 sockets.

  • newegg Superior Heat Dissipation and Cooling Performance The pure copper base, dual copper heatpipes and high-density aluminum fins maximize heat transfer and dissipation, plus a 92mm, 800-2200 RPM cooling fan providing a complete cooling solution for the CPU and its surrounding components. The multi-air inlet design provides huge airflow while the sickle-shape blade significantly reduces the noise for ultra-quiet operation.
  • newegg Universal Socket Compatibility The Cooler Master RR-VTPS-28PK-R features broad compatibility with AMD socket 754, 939, 940, and AM2 platforms, as well as the Intel LGA 775 platform.

4 out of 5 eggsPerfect Size

Pros: Small profile, plenty of room for RAM (G.Skill F3 8GB), easy to install - AMD A8-5600k, MSI FM2-A75MA. I did have the mobo outside of the case so I imagine it would have been a little more difficult inside.

Cons: Fan speed is constant no matter how hard cpu is pushed. This may not be the cooler's fault, maybe it's a problem with the mobo. Tried many smart fan control settings in BIOS but the fan always runs at the same speed from idle to benchmarking. HWMonitor showed high cpu temps - 89 degrees when running Cinebench and fans at 50%, 86 degrees with fans at 100%. Something is wrong but I don't know what so I took an egg off (maybe unfairly)

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for the xps 8500 i7 3770

Pros: Perfect fit, Easy Install, more capable fan than the stock Intel heatsink/fan. Max temp with stock on tomb raider reached 80 degrees. Max temp with the Vortex only reached 58 but only stayed a few seconds. Mostly hovered around the low 50's, very cool. This is highly recommended for the xps 8500 i7 3770.

Cons: No cons so far.

3 out of 5 eggsIt works but...

Pros: Fan is quit, easy to install with AMD CPU. Not as tall as other products. Fits well were vertical space is limited.

Cons: Surface that contacts CPU is not machined. It is an aluminum block with heat pipes pressed in. There are small gaps were the flat aluminum block and the round heat pipes meet.

Other Thoughts: I contacted Cooler Master and asked if this product was built correctly. There answer was yes, they are sorry for the misunderstanding. They are working on getting more accurate pictures for this product.

1 out of 5 eggsCan't even install it on Phenom II

Pros: It looks pretty, would have fit well if it actually installed.

Cons: 1) The fastening parts are completely loose and easy to get at wrong angles. You practically need two hands for each clamp part and then one more to hold the fan in place so it doesn't lift up and create air bubbles in the thermal compound.
2) Of course, those hands would have to fit in the likely small space in your PC, as setups rarely leave 8 inches of space around the CPU to be able to fiddle with parts that don't line themselves up. Even parts of just the motherboard were partly in the way. This requires a 5" bar to slide in sideways, and that hooks into a clamp made from 3 loose parts, and the hooking process is partly blocked by wires for the Intel installation. Very hard to keep all in place.
3) If you do by some miracle get it all together and hooked through properly, good luck getting it to clip on the bracing. I couldn't get it to reach further than 1/4" away from hooking on, and then after this it's supposed to use the latch to clamp harder? If you managed it, I wouldn't be surprised if it cracked the bracing or destroyed your CPU.
4) I had my doubts about how well it would even do if I could get it installed because the surface of the base is not smooth. There are gaps on the sides of each pipe, and the pipes don't seem completely flush with the base block.

Other Thoughts: I have built several PCs and never encountered such a complicated mess that isn't even measured to the proper dimensions to fit into what it is specified to work with. I just switched back to my old fan because while it may run a bit hot, at least it actually fastens to the base, and with only two simple clips already attached to the fan. I would return it for a refund but I don't think I can since I used the thermal compound. Instead I'll just never buy a Cooler Master fan again.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Cooler

Pros: I really can't complain. It's a great CPU cooler. It's quiet and it gets the job done really well. Works with AM3+ for those AMD users who are unsure. It keeps my FX-6300 under 45.

Cons: I had a problem with getting the clips on the board correctly, but I'm sure that was just me being foolish.

Other Thoughts: It's definitely worth the money and is a very solid cooler.
Way better than using a stock cooler any day.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Low profile
Doesn't block ram
Very good air cooling
Fan blows down, helps cool VRM, RAM, etc.
Fits FM2/+ socket

Cons: Old style contact for Cooler Master, IOW not the EVO style base. Waste of Arctic Silver filling in the 'cracks'. They should release an EVO of this.

Other Thoughts: Have this in an HTPC case, so needed lower profile without sacrificing cooling performance. First FM2+ for me, A10-7850K on an A88XM-A w/ 8g of Radeon 2400 ram. Idles at 28-30C, Prime95 only 44-46C. Very impressive performance for relatively small size cooler.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat

Pros: keeps my new A8 5600k nice and cool below 50c and stays super quiet, if I manually set to 100% fan it stays under 45c and my case does not have the best air flow

Cons: a little big, blocks use of high profile memory in first slot.

Other Thoughts: I use this on a a8 5600k, and GIGABYTE GA-F2A55M-DS2 it cools the vrm's okay and has some flow over the memory also.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes the job well

Pros: Low profile
Able to hand hotter chips
Rather simple installation for AMD chips.

So far it seems to handle my FX-6350 well. I have put it under load a few times and the temps seem to hold stead at 68-70C. I have not seen it move higher. Not bad for a 125W TDP chip. Gaming temps tend to be a little lower but temps rise some when executing some of my heavily threaded apps.

Cons: The Intel bracket is tricky and can cause some issues. The AMD bracket is simple and easy to apply. Would recommend to AMD systems over Intel due to this.

Other Thoughts: Recommend this heat sink over the stock heat sinks as it will keep the temps and noise down well. Again, I would avoid for Intel systems due to the bracket unless you have to use it due to its low profile abilities.

2 out of 5 eggsZip ties are your friend

Pros: It works and quiet

Cons: Wow... the bracket for amd flat out sucks. When i got it to stay on, the cooler moved around like it had no hold on the processor. I removed it to make sure i didn't do something wrong or i missed something, i put it back on and broke the pin that connects the stupid clip mech.

Other Thoughts: I didn't want to waist my time and money on return shipping sooooooo. I resorted to using zip ties... works better than the dumb retaining clips and is solid on my APU keeping temps around 32-38c
