5 out of 5 eggsSuper Quiet

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: Excellent for cooling my I5-4590.
At max load, it only reaches 49°C

Cons: The manual/instructions included leave a lot up to the imagination.

3 out of 5 eggsNot worth it

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: Cheap and good.

Cons: the heatsink may be good but cooler master cheaped out on the fan design. It does not sit correctly and wobbles while making a very loud grinding noise.

RMA'd the fan hoping it was an isolated issue and received a fan that did the same thing after 2 days of use.

Other Thoughts: CM has been lowering their quality the past few years, going to start avoiding products made by them.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value Air Cooler!

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: Nice PWN Fan
Mounting is expandable for all sockets (Main Stream at least)
Not too loud even under load
Great for overclocking

Cons: Mounting is a bit of a pain because of how tight everything has to get

Other Thoughts: Great cooler, I have put it on a bunch of machines (I have bought many) and every time I just see great satisfaction from people and myself. It really is one of the best CPU coolers especially when you factor in how inexpensive it is. I have been able to overclock most computers that have it to extreme levels and keep the temps in the 70's at 100% load. Recommend if you are looking for a CPU cooler that will allow some heavy clocks and runs very well, look no further!

5 out of 5 eggsi7-4790k saver

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: Easy install.

Cons: really big.

Other Thoughts: On an i7-4790k with stock cooler at max load for hours (handbrake encodes) my system would blue screen from overtemp warnings. Speccy would show 90c.
With the hyper 212 EVO my max cpu temp after 18 hours at 100% cpu usage is around 60c. No more blue screens.

5 out of 5 eggsIt so Big ;)

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: It cools

Cons: It heats

Other Thoughts: The reason why I say it heats is because I had to adjust my fans for my case was getting up to 30 degrees. Overall it. Keeps my processor cool, the highest it has ever gotten was 42-43 degrees, and what I understand, that's fine and dandy. When idle, it runs at 26-28. I would like to add that the fan with it works just fine if you don't really like to over-clock. I don't notice it being loud but don't take my word for it, my 140mm intake fans are all I hear (should probably replace those). Oh and installation for it took like 5 minutes, I notice some complain about installation issues, but honestly, if those gamers are complaining about wasting time then why are they playing computer games? Hah, all jokes a side, PC Master Race!!! Keeps my PC cooler than an Xbox (lol, not saying much).

1 out of 5 eggsBig and clunky for no good reason at all.

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: Great cooling.

Cons: Way oversized.

Other Thoughts: The heatsink is OK - it works great and does its job . The big problem: This thing is way too tall ; there's no good reason for it to be so HUGE. There are other options that are just as good, but not as oversized as this clunker.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: Works very well on my i7 4790k. I'm using OC genie on my MSI motherboard, which is clocking it at 4.5 and my idle temps are ~ 38C. While doing intense gaming (Crysis 3, Planetside 2, BF4, etc.), the temps hover between 55-60C. I've yet to see them exceed 60.

Cons: Size.

Other Thoughts: I couldn't find my Arctic Silver thermal compound (wife must have thrown it away) so I just used the Cooler Master compound that came with the heat sink. As stated above, it's working fine.

5 out of 5 eggsWell worth the money

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: Great price for the performance and easy to replace fan should one ever die so in a few years when it does, I can replace it easy. Can even install one on both sides for a "Push-Pull" setup on it if I wanted.

Very silent as well.

Cons: Size makes it difficult to install depending on your setup and can block ram slots. But as big as it is, it isn't too heavy so that isn't a real factor.

Other Thoughts: Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3
CPU: AMD FX-8350 Black Edition
Thermal Paste: Arctic Silver 5 (I spread it myself instead of letting the heatsink do it like some do).
Videocard: EVGA SuperClocked 02G-P4-2765-KR

My house is about 78 degrees fahrenheit .

My PC idles at about 86f and as high as 93f when the house is warmer.

After playing Borderlands 2 for an hour straight on max settings, I checked to see my CPU only hit 98f, the absolute highest my CPU has gone is 104f total.

WELL worth the investment. Used CPUID HW Monitor for my temperature settings after gaming, the idle settings I have taken both with them and through the BIOS.

5 out of 5 eggsA great upgrade

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: low price, quiet during use

Cons: just a bit too tall for my NZXT source 210, but the side panel still closes with a small bit of force.

Other Thoughts: Really just a great upgrade to the stock AMD cooler that I used that would wind up like a jet engine when under load. Keeps my FX-8320 fairly cool for a cheap upgrade to the bad stock cooler.

1 out of 5 eggsBad contact area

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: Direct Contact heatpipe coolers are supposed to be more efficient.

Cons: On Asus M5A97 Motherboard with A3+ FX -8320 CPU, could only mount horizontal, not vertical. Not a big deal as I intended to have heat blown out the top of the case.

Installing the Universal Mount hardware was complicated and confusing. Instructions were nearly worthless, YouTube was much more help. Why can't they design an adapter to work with the factory installed heat sink brackets on the Motherboard rather than having to change the backing plate and front side hardware?

With only 2 ways to do it, I managed to mount the heatsink upside down. While I'm sure it would have worked just fine, my customer is a Feng Shui master, and having the Cooler Master name upside down was just bad Feng Shui. So, I pulled the cooler off to turn it over.

GOOD THING I DID!!!

It was obvious from the Arctic Silver grease pattern that the contact area was NOT FLUSH or level.

I cleaned up the grease on the contact area and the CPU, and with the case on its side set the cooler on the CPU. It rocked back and forth significantly, over 1mm at the top of the cooler. Put a straight edge paper card across the pipes, and the pipes were high in the middle with significant daylight on either side. No amount of Arctic Silver is going to make up for that much of a gap. It could have fried my CPU.

Other Thoughts: I am hoping this was a one-off defect, the cooler has received good reviews in other places. I suggest you check yours with a straight edge card looking for light gaps, then install once, remove, and check the grease pattern. If all is well, clean everything up and install again.

The FX-8320 8-core runs hot with the stock heat sink, looking for another cooler, but a bit shy of the Direct Contact heat pipe type right now. Will probably get a conventional copper plate contact area type to finish this build correctly. Anyone know of a good one that uses the stock motherboard mounting brackets?
