3 out of 5 eggsCooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: Cools pretty good as long as the fan works.

Cons: Stock fan doesn't last very long, and is a little loud on full speed.

Other Thoughts: The fan that comes with the cooler only lasted about 3-4 months before it started making a grinding noise. About two months after it started making noise, the bearing finally became too stiff to spin the fan.

CM replaced the fan, but the replacement fan also died after about 6-7 months.

I'm now using a Noctua NF-F12 PWM fan.

If you buy the cooler, be prepared to upgrade the fan.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: The reviews led me to buy this product. I used this for the first rig I ever built and it wasn't too difficult to install. Currently using this to cool the AMD FX-8320 8 core and temps are fairly stable in the 33 to 47 Celsius range between general web browsing and playing games at the extrema.

Cons: Comes fairly close to touching RAM but nonetheless fits pretty snug.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent Choice

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: Design - looking good, fits very well on my mobo and in the case; it is big but still, i have enough room round it and easy access to memory sticks. It is a lot more quiet than my previous one and keeps the cpu cool at all times.

Mounting on my LGA2011 socket was apiece of cake - this is how all cpus should be mounted - adjustable bracket, bolts - no plates on the mobo need, no hard pressed pins - it took me about 5-10mins to set everything up.

Cons: The only thing i notices is that even after bracket screws were tightened as tight as possible, you could slightly turn the fan on cpu - i hope this is only because the cooling paste is fresh...

Other Thoughts: My new set up:

intel core i7 5820K
asus x99-a
16gb g.skill ripjaws 4x4gb ddr4
evga gtx 980

5 out of 5 eggsCool and quiet

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: Nice looking and quiet cooler that does a fine job. Make sure your case is over 9 inches in width, because this cool is huge.

Cons: No cons. All good.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks, bit of a pain to install

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: Keeps CPU cool and is relatively quiet.

Cons: The manual is close to useless. DO yourself a favor and download the PDF version and zoom in on the tiny little images to make it more obvious how the PlateX connector is oriented. Pay special attention to which way the X is opened as it may seem to line up correctly but will not. Short version: You insert the PlateX in the "wrong" way then open it up to the "right" way. Note also that you'll need access to the back of your motherboard to replace the retainer plate. Also pay close attention to the three position screw holes. Depending on your socket type these will be different. Sure, the docs illustrate this with an arrow pointing to the position, but on installation it can easily move around as you're adjusting the heat sink.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Fan

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: Great CPU fan
Keeps my AMD FX8350 cool even when its using 95% of its processing power.

Cons: An absolute pain to install. The directions are difficult to understand, and it was the hardest part of my build to put together.

5 out of 5 eggsWOW 20c Improvement over Stock Fan!

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: I own an i7 4790k CPU and ran the stock fan for a week before my Evo showed up. Running Prime 95 on stock with no overclock I would peak out at 88c CPU temp. Running the same settings in the same environment with the EVO i'm seeing a peak at 60c. My case fans don't even kick in 100% at that low of a temp! In terms of value for money, this fan is the Bees Knees!!!

Cons: I cut myself installing it on the sharp fins of the heatsink... ouch! My own fault... maybe Cooler Master can include a logo's bandaid in the box :)

Other Thoughts: This thing wont disappoint!
