3 out of 5 eggsScary to Install

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: I have this hooked up to my AMD FX9590 (8-core processor) and I have never had any cooling issues. This definitely will take care of your needs. Probably a bit overpowered but that's not a bad thing

Cons: This is really frightening to install on the board. you end up pushing down very hard on the braces to get them to screw into the board. You almost feel like you will snap the motherboard. I can understand making this secure but it feels like the braces need to be a bit lower so attaching to the board isn't quite as frightening.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Product

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: I coupled this item with the Intel i7-5820. I didn't have a hard time installing it like some folks. I could see how it could be confusing, the directions/instructions are minimal, but I had enough experience with heatsinks and coolers that I made out okay. Keeps my CPU cool and fits nicely inside my full size case. Overall, very happy with my purchase.

Cons: Larger heatstink/fan, but should fit most setups

3 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: - Installed on an AMD FX-8320 CPU. 5-10 degrees celcius improvement.
- Relatively quiet, even under heavy load.

Cons: - It's hard to install on AMD boards. I've installed it on Intel boards no problem. The pins holding the heatsink do not push in very well, which means you have to screw them in in a star configuration. Depending on how your case is set up, you may end up having to install the heatsink outside of your case.
- HUGE!
- It doesn't seem like it fits snug on your CPU.

Other Thoughts: This works great on Intel CPUs, I saw 10-20 degrees celcius improvements on I-series processors (30-40 on moderately heavy loads.) It's also significantly easier to install. I am not deducting more eggs because it's a great product for Intels, and AMD CPUs just run way hotter. I just wish it weren't such a pain to install on AM3+ boards.

I also am not using the thermal paste it came with, I always use Arctic Silver 5 compound.

4 out of 5 eggsHard to install

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: Has a great heat sink for CPU. Fan is also very easy to take on and off. Also, comes with additional side rails for replacements in case the preinstalled ones break.

Cons: Very annoying to install. This is only the case because the directions are very vague and contradictory of the product. There are online guides made by other users that explain much better.

Other Thoughts: Good purchase lost one star because of installation.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Cooler for the Money

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: *Runs about 15 degrees cooler at load than a stock Intel cooler
*The included fan runs pretty quiet and doesn't have any issues
*The included thermal paste also seems to work just fine

Cons: *Silver heatsink may not suit all builds, but you can always spray paint it if that bothers you
*RAM clearance may be an issue if you're not using low-profile memory and all four DIMM slots are filled, but there shouldn't be any problems if you're only using two DIMMs

Other Thoughts: There's not much else to say. This cooler is a must-have for anyone who values silence in their PC build, and unless you'll be doing some extreme CPU overclocking, this is all you need. Even if you won't be doing any overclocking, this cooler will still perform better and stay a lot quieter than an Intel stock cooler.

4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: My AMD's stock fan would run warm when idle, and launching a simple YouTube Video would cause the processor to overheat and crash. Once I identified the problem, I purchased this fan. Big means quiet, and still pushes plenty of air.

I have not had a random crash since this fan was installed, which was all it did with the stock fan.

Idle is 39c, Load is 47c. This is without any extra fans on to help.

If I crank up all the fans and get proper airflow, this can idle at 19c, but who wants to listen to that?

Cons: Installation sucked, as expected. I ended up having to tear the whole things down to flip over the motherboard to attach a back bracket. Without any room, I had difficulty screwing the top mount down.

This just killed me, when the AMD's stock fan was snap, click, done. I just knew one of these universal types that would mount on anything was going to be a problem.

Installation was worse than those old orb fans from the 90's that felt like I was going to crack the chip during install. I was going to crack the chip here, but the heatsink was sliding all over from the thermal while I tried to get the screwdriver in there. Hope I dont have to take it apart again.

Other Thoughts: Does what I expected. No crashes, even playing some 3d games. It is big though. I have a mid-size ATX case, and the door just barely goes back on.

3 out of 5 eggsJanky Fan, Bad RMA process

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: Effective cooler

Cons: Bad fan that gets super noisey. RMA process ended up being more hassle than it was worth and I ended up just buying a different fan.

5 out of 5 eggsSilent!

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: Silent! Can barely hear it. My Chassis fans are louder than this!

Installation is pretty easy. Although the screws are a bit hard to get to fit into the mount. There are indeed 3 slots as said on the diagram. The 3rd slot is inbetween the 2 obvious ones.

Cons: It is fairly large but it was smaller than my FrioOCK.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat heatsink

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: Keeps my cpu cool

Cons: stock fan died after 6 months, replaced it with a better CM fan and no more issues

Other Thoughts: Fantastic cool, I would just recommend buying a better fan for it.

4 out of 5 eggsGood product

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: Keeps my CPU's cool, fits in midtower cases just fine.

Cons: Installation instructions suck peanuts.

This is the second one of these I've installed, but it's been a couple years since I installed the last one...so I had to consult the installation guide.

I think they must have updated the guide, because the last time it was easy...this time I couldn't hardly figure it out and had to guess what went where and what parts to use. The "guide" caused more confusion than it helped.

Differentiating between AMD components and Intel components is total guesswork...fortunately it's not that complex, so anyone should be able to figure it out with a little head scratching and time.

Other Thoughts: Use the installation guide for toilet paper...it's more useful that way.
