4 out of 5 eggsInstructions Not Clear

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: The heatsink is large; it cools well, and keeps temperatures at a reasonable level. The fan moves a good amount of air and does its job.

Cons: For my first time installing a heatsink with a separate mounting bracket, the included instructions were not immediately clear and resulted in a bit of fumbling with the nuts and bolts. Further complicating matters was an incorrectly-machined thread which had to be forced into its slot.

4 out of 5 eggsCools my CPU

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: Not bad to install
Keeps my CPU (i7 4790k) at reasonable temperatures (better than stock cooler)

Un-overclocked: 35-40 C
Overclocked: 50-70 C
Overlocked

Cons: Doesn't sit tightly on the motherboard. The included thermal paste is really slippery, and I can turn the cooler a bit from side to side even when it is tightened in all the way

Other Thoughts: Good price, not too big. Worth getting if you want to overclock

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: - Not a bad price
- silent

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: It was a little bigger than I expected it to be (about 120mm wide, stands 160mm high). Just account for space when deciding on getting this

3 out of 5 eggsGood Cooler

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: The cooling tower on it's own merit is great. My FX 6300 is overclocked to 4.7ghz. Great for budget builds.

Cons: I bought this at the end of June and it's now December. The fan has started making clicking noises a few weeks ago. It's mostly at idle and medium speeds. It appears to be out of balance. The fan is clean and free of dust. The noise comes and goes as the fan goes in and out of balance.

The brackets and installation are not the best. My motherboard had huge deflection from tightening the cooler as recommended by instructions. This is due to the varying heights off motherboard brands and their cpu sockets. Long story short, the cooler really started to bow and bend my board. I backed off the screws until the cooler was still tight but the deflection of the board was back to minimal. This could be properly solved with higher stand-offs from cooler master. Also the backing plate was weaker than my stock backing plate. Everything is good now but I was really clueless about what to do. I found a few others online with similar issues.

Other Thoughts: I will try to contact coolermaster about a replacement fan. I will update if they provide help. But all said and done, this $30 cooler is a great value for the DIY builders. It seems like most owners have no problems with installation, most likely it's an AMD board problem on some brands with high socket heights. If I had to do another budget build, I would buy this again.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat HSF/Hate Smart-Post!

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: Great $ for performance ratio of any HSF! This is the 3rd one of these that I've used in the last 2 years.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I've taken an egg off of the rating, because I so intensely HATE "Smart-Post" that I might strongly consider NOT purchasing from this or any another vendor in the future that persist in using this idiotic shipping "solution"!

4 out of 5 eggsBang for buck Cooler

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: I have really never used a aftermarket cooler, it is definitely a great one.
My temps are great in a case with not a lot of airflow

Cons: It's definitely a pain in the rear end to install if you don't have a helping hand or and aftermarket cooler experience

Other Thoughts: One egg off for trouble installing, which is my fault but lol

4 out of 5 eggsQuick and Painless

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: Quick easy installation.
Provides ample cooling at a very quiet operation with stock fan.
Came packaged with everything you will need for installation.
Handles well under heavy loads!

Cons: Although stock fan does perform well.
I do believe they could have provided a better one.

4 out of 5 eggsEasy Install, Large, Relatively Quiet.

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: Relatively Quiet, and easy to install.

Cons: Although this Cooler was easy to install, its size made it impossible to install the fan facing the front of the PC. I'm using Corsair Vengeance Pro (with Heat Spreaders) Memory sticks; the size of the Vengeance Pro Memory combined with the Cooler size prevent front Fan installation. It's not a deal breaker as I just installed the fan facing the back of the unit.

Other Thoughts: None.
