4 out of 5 eggsGood CPU cooling solution

This review is from: Cooler Master Seidon 120M – All-In-One CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 120mm Radiator and Fan

Pros: I picked this up on sale through NewEgg. The main reason why I selected this cooler was to avoid interference issues with the nearby memory slots that I had encountered with air-based CPU cooler. This proves very effective at keeping my i7 cool, and it operates very quietly with only an occasional gurgle from the liquid.

Cons: Not sure this is a con, but you need to read the instructions carefully and take your time installing. The nuts that you install need to be installed with the black "washers" towards the motherboard, and the instructions do not make this clear. Also, in the BIOS settings, you need to make sure the header that is hooked up to the pump is set to full speed. I recommend mounting the radiator and fan to the case first.

Other Thoughts: System configuration: i7-4790K processor, Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD5H motherboard, Gigabyte GV-N980G1 GAMING-4GD, Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600, Samsung 840 EVO 500GB 2.5" SSD, Acer H276HLbmid 27.0" via DVI, Thermaltake Chaser A71 ATX Full Tower case. I don't overclock my CPU. I used Arctic Silver 5 instead of the included thermal compound.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat cooling, take your time with installation.

This review is from: Cooler Master Seidon 120M – All-In-One CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 120mm Radiator and Fan

Pros: Cooling is awesome. Idles at 32 Celsius and the hottest I've seen it go is 43 Celsius under 100% load. Crazy! Just for comparison, I've been using the stock Intel cooler since 2008 and I've see temperatures above 85 Celsius all too often while gaming. Very happy with this cooler.

Cons: The installation was a pain. I couldn't get the screws on the retention plate to line up with the standoffs. Took me a little bit of wiggling around to get it right. It was worth the little bit of time I spent into installation, I'm happy with the results either way.

Other Thoughts: I'm happy with it but -1 egg for difficult installation.

4 out of 5 eggslet the OC'ing begin

This review is from: Cooler Master Seidon 120M – All-In-One CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 120mm Radiator and Fan

Pros: This cooler is solid performer. Not terribly noisy even cranked up. It does a decent job of cooling your cpu. I'm using on a G3258 and temps are great. Installing it on a 1150 platform is fairly easy.

Cons: Installing it on an amd platform is a pain in the..... A second pair of hands is all but required. Doable with one person but its tricky. You need to hold up the back plate while screwing the water block down. Not easy unless you have three hands. Also it would be nice if it came with a second fan. Buying extra fan would bring the cost in line with higher quality coolers.

Other Thoughts: i feel that at $50 and under this is a solid value for your money. Radiator isn't very thick but this could be a good thing if working in a small case. I have managed to mount this on multiple microatx cases. Just make sure your psu is bottom mounted, rear fan is 120mm or bigger and between the top of the fan and the top of the case their is about inch and a half or more of space. Adding a second fan is easy, all you need is an extra set of screws. As far as the intake vs outtake argument, its a case by case thing. For me I had lower temps as outtake over in. Also i wouldn't go above an i5 or an fx 6300 if you plan to overclock. The thin radiator would limit what you can do with hotter running chips.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Product

This review is from: Cooler Master Seidon 120M – All-In-One CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 120mm Radiator and Fan

Pros: I'm sort of new to the water cooling business but the Cooler Master Seidon 120M Cooler is an overall great buy. I With my old setup I was limited to the clock speed of only 4.0Ghz on a Phenom II X6. But with the cooler I managed to get it up to 4.9Ghz! Quite the difference. And I still have head room to go further if I want to.

Cons: The System Fan is a little loud at max load but I think thats a given with a high clock.

Other Thoughts: This is a solid buy. I'd be happy to recommend this product to any entry level/new water coolers.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great for Overclocking

This review is from: Cooler Master Seidon 120M – All-In-One CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 120mm Radiator and Fan

Pros: Works much better than the stock heat sink & fan on my AMD Phenom ii X4 955 BE.

Solid build quality.

Easy setup.

Cons: The long screws for mounting the fan to the radiator are a little too short.

Other Thoughts: It seems a lot of people are mounting the fan incorrectly and are not getting good results because of this. There are good videos on the Cooler Master website and NewEgg that show the proper way to install this unit. The fan should be facing INWARD, taking cool fresh air form outside the case and directing it in through the radiator.

I added a second 120mm fan for a push-pull setup. I have the first fan mounted on the outside of my case facing inward, with the screws going through the screw-holes on the case and attaching to the radiator which is mounted on the inside of the case. Then I attached the second fan to the radiator, pulling air in the same direction into the case.

When attaching the waterblock to the processor, I thought I could use the AMD mounting plate that was already in place behind my motherboard. It turned out that the screw holes were a little too short, so the screws on the waterblock would not reach. I had to remove the motherboard and swap the mounting plate with the AMD mounting plate that came with the Seidon, the screw holes were a little taller so now the screws were able to (barely) reach.

The long screws for attaching the fan to the radiator were too short to go through the fan, through the case, and then into the radiator. But there is a work-around... before mounting the waterblock on an AMD processor, the plastic bracket that the stock cooler was attached to needs to be removed from the motherboard. The four screws that are left over from this bracket have the same thread as the holes on the radiator. I just used these screws for mounting the first fan to the radiator, going through just one screw hole on the fan (instead of through both screw holes like the long screws are intended to do). They were the perfect length to go through the fan, case, and into the radiator.

On the stock cooler, I was only able to overclock my AMD Phenom ii X4 955 BE from 3.2ghz to 3.4ghz... at 3.5 the temps would start to hit unsafe levels (about 65 degrees). With the Seidon 120M, I am able to hit 4ghz with temps maxing out at about 53 degrees. This cooler would allow me to OC more than that, it's the processor that is limiting further overclocking due to instability at that speed.

3 out of 5 eggsDoes the job

This review is from: Cooler Master Seidon 120M – All-In-One CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 120mm Radiator and Fan

Pros: Great performance for the price, does the intended job very well and has not broken yet. Keeps my FX-6300 very cool and does not rev up to loudly under extreme CPU use.

Cons: I only have one con which was enough to take off two eggs. When I got the cooler, the holes to mounts for the mounting bracket for an AMD motherboard were off, so I had to take a drill and manual drill the holes myself, which didn't work cause i didn't have a sharp drill bit. So, i sorta forced the two holes to line up and have used the leverage between the two holes to hold it together. I still have all the original packaging so I might just send it back possibly knowing I will get a new one that went through quality control correctly.

Other Thoughts: I have always liked Cooler Master for their quality but this one just didn't cut the cake for me. I must have gotten the only bad one from the whole batch which lately has been my luck.
