3 out of 5 eggsI wouldn't risk it...

Pros: Cools reasonably well
All-in-one system
Easy to get set up
Looks sweet

Cons: Sub-par pump, with high failure rate
Starts fires, apparently?!
Takes up a bunch of space

Other Thoughts: I have owned this cooler for almost a year now. For the most part it has behaved itself and kept my CPU reasonably cool (mid-30's idle, high 40's/low 50's under load). The issue I have is as follows:

My original 240L unit began to make atrocious pump noises after about a month. I tried to resolve the issue by topping off the cooling reservoir, per CM guidelines (their support was quite responsive, so props to them on that) but to no avail. So, after spending a little time working with CM support, they promptly RMA'd my unit. Again, I can't fault CM's support, as they were great every step of the way.

Now I am well into the working life of the RMA'd unit and it is also starting to act up. The noisy pump is beginning to rear its head once more, though not quite as intensely as before yet. Also, I will periodically get a "CPU fan 0RPM" (implicating the pump, which connects to the CPU fan header plus SATA power) warning popping up from my motherboard's monitoring suite, followed within seconds by an immediate poweroff (caused by overheating). I have to wait for my FX chip to get cool enough from ambient temp before I can even get my system to boot into BIOS, let alone the OS.

To top it off, the pile of reviews about the unit catching fire at the pump and, well, suffice to say I plan to purchase a new cooling unit before the day is out.

Now, in all honesty, I don't write this to turn anyone away from Cooler Master. I have a long history of using their products and I still feel that, all in all, they have more than earned my continued business. This unit however, I cannot recommend. I don't know if the QC ball got dropped somewhere with the partnership with Swiftech for the Glacer line, or if the issues are limited to the 240L, but it clearly has some serious kinks.

1 out of 5 eggsSmoke Filled Computer

Pros: Did well when it worked

Cons: After owning this for less than 3 months, the pump caught fire and filled my room with smoke ! I checked the radiator and tank, and it was full of coolant, so that was not this issue! Shortly after the incident I replaced it a basic fan and contacted Cooler master, didn't have time to follow up with it, due to a stroke, which put me out of commission for over 6 months. ;-9
Now I am probably stuck with it.

Other Thoughts: DO NOT BUY!

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsgreat

Pros: this product keeps my AMD 9590 running 35.c idle max 78.c
able to take the hoses off the radiator made it able to mount outside my case

Cons: the pump stopped working within the first 24 hours. Good thing I let the pump run by its self for a day before powering up the rest of the system.after I tried everything i could think of to make it work, I picked up my case and shake in intense frustration. To my surprise the pump went back alive and haven't had any trouble sense.
minus tow star due to my frustration but plus one star due to the Ironic surprise

Other Thoughts: i had trouble mounting it on my AMD m59a99fx pro r2.0 board because it uses the original back mounting plate that came with the motherboard and I lost my original mounting plate somewhere. i manage to use the mounting bracket from a old AMD mother board

1 out of 5 eggsNervously typing this...

Pros: Looks cool, Looks effective, worked to my knowledge pretty well (idling 45 degrees) for the first 2-3 months.

Cons: NOW?!, well aside from the weird noises coming from my pump and reading these stories of fires? I'm not to sure about this unit. I AVERAGE 45 degrees idle, which i'm thinking is not normal. Under load, im hitting 60-70 degrees. When I see people idling at 25-30 degrees with different coolers, it makes me wonder.
I'm a little worried about this thing. I wear noise cancelling headphones when im on my computer. What if I don't hear it and all of a sudden, boom, fire?

Other Thoughts: With all these issues being reported, Coolermaster hasn't recalled?
For being your "top-end" cooler, this is pretty sub-par if you ask me.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Swen S,

We apologize for the trouble that you are experiencing with the Glacer 240L. CPU temperatures will vary depending the the CPU being used and the ambient temperatures of the room that the computer is in. If you would like to contact me, I can help trouble shoot your temperatures to see if the cooler is working properly.

1 out of 5 eggsFire Hazard

Pros: Worked great and was fairly easy to set up.

Cons: The major con is what everyone else seems to be talking about with the pump cable catching fire. I looked at the reviews a few months back and thought people were just unlucky with defective units but mine went bad just today 9 months after purchasing it originally. I heard sizzling and popping and saw smoke coming from the pump wires and immediately unplugged the computer.

Other Thoughts: I love CoolerMaster but honestly with so many people having the same issue with the pump on this thing I feel like it should be recalled.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsHazardous

Pros: Quiet when in operation

Cons: It started an electrical fire.

Other Thoughts: I'm extremely disappointed in the 240L. This liquid cooler worked great for 5 months, until last Friday I heard the sound of an electrical buzz under my table, and saw that the two black power cords going into the pump were spraying out sparks and the case was filling with black smoke. I quickly yanked the power cable out of the wall before a fire started. The plastic on the black power cables on the side of the pump had caught on fire and started burning the pump's outer shell.

There is no way that any product should EVER do this. I'd expect any company these days to have the ability to manufacture a product that won't start a fire. I'm thankful I was home when this happened, otherwise it would have started an electrical fire that could have gone completely out of control.

I called Cooler Master immediately, and after a *long* time of waiting on hold, I was told to create a user account on their website, then fill out an RMA. The problem is that their website is not kicking back an email with a clickable link, which makes it impossible to register (it's not even sending to Spam/Trash). The more days go by, the longer I am completely unable to use my computer. Getting in touch with tech support is a complete chore.

From what I've read, I'm not the only one that had this happen to them. There are 2 other reviews of this thing catching on fire here on Newegg.

Overall, I don't think I can ever trust this company again - I'm just thankful that this product didn't damage any of my other PC internals.

3 out of 5 eggsUpdate to original review on 4/20

Pros: Hasn't broken.... yet

Cons: Pump stopped working briefly

Other Thoughts: TLDR: if you are on the fence about getting this of a proper DIY setup, take the money you would have spent on this and invest in a custom setup. In the end, you'll probably save yourself the frustration of having to re-install everything multiple times.

After having the Glacer for a few months it seems to have survived, with the exception of the pump randomly dieing one morning. Inexplicably I boot up my computer and see the pump reading out 0RPM and temps climbing. Probably got to a toasty 80+ deg before I could finish inspecting a few things and powered off. Problem with placing a water block on your CPU is that it just sits there and bakes when that happens. I figured it went the way of my Hi100, but gave it another shot and for some reason the pump just started working again after another power on. Starting to wonder if I'm putting too much trust in these lower quality coolers for the $500 CPU I have in my system. I guess I expected more considering the hefty price tag of the 240L

Fan that I mentioned in the original review is still wobbly and more noticeable now. They just don't seem to be very well made, especially when I compare them to the other aftermarket fans I use. Kind of wish they would have just kept the original Swiftech fans in the design. Disappointed to say I will probably replace them at the next chance.

Temps are okay, not as good as they were before (even after re-seating.) Overclocking was not so great, the 240L has a real hard time keeping up with any significant temp change. Again, was hoping for more in this department, came out unsatisfied.

Changing from 4 to 2 stars. The lack of quality parts makes me wonder how long this unit will last (not good considering it is the most expensive AIO you can buy), and the lack of performance leaves me with the impression that this is just another AIO being marketed as a "contender with a proper custom setups" or you may even hear the phrase "semi-DIY", but it just can't compete. If I had seen an honest review like this before hand, I probably would not have gone down this path and chose a custom setup. Lesson learned, looking forward to next build.

1 out of 5 eggsFaulty Pump

Pros: Works very well if it works...

Cons: I end up having the same issue all the other people seem to be having. My pump stopped working out of the blue after running smoothly for less 2 months. Needless to day how disappointed I am...

Other Thoughts: Trying to get RMA...

1 out of 5 eggsPump Failed!!!

Pros: Worked Great! Idle 26C

Cons: Pump Failed after 8 months. Intermittent cooling, meaning it works whenever it wants to cpu temps idled @ 26C for first 8 months and 36 on full load but now its 68C on idle and 26C when it wants to work!

Other Thoughts: I'm gonna try to RMA or process warranty .

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: Great company name. When this was the Swifttech 220, nothing could touch it. repackage with a new pump and improved pump and you would think , " hey, what could go wrong?"

Cons: what could go wrong is the law of averages. i dont know if newegg has gotten the bottom of the bin batches or what but i have to say i am really disappointed. received my shipment of new parts on my birthday 3 days ago ... took vacation so i could play around with my new build. 2 straight days of trouble shooting trying to figure out why my new Z97 build keeps losing the cpu fan. including 1 whole day of trying to figure out why the pump isnt working. is it software, let me check the software over and over again. let me check the connections over and over again. case covers off, case covers on. please dont let it be the pump. sigh ... its the pump.

just ran my 1st stress test on my new build, with my old evo 212 off of the board i just boxed away 3 days ago.

yeah happy birthday to me. "pow ... right in the kisser"
