4 out of 5 eggsCM Nepton 140xl

This review is from: Cooler Master Nepton 140XL – Push-Pull CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 140mm Radiator and 2 JetFlo Fans

Pros: About 5-10c lower than CM 212 evo, lights up, easy install, can use the tallest ram since it doesn't get in the way.
using an intel i5 4670k @4.2 idle temp is 37c with ambiant temp around 80f, load hasn't went past 60c even in 90+ room temp.

Cons: One mounting screw hole stripped really easily (be super careful even though I was)
It's been over two months and still no rebate.
(rebates are a waste and I usually will not buy a product because of them, sad because newegg rarely used to do them and now most products have them)

Other Thoughts: Newegg is still by far the best place to buy computer / electronics .
ASRock Z97 ex3
i5 4690k @ 4.2 (for now)
Fractile R5 (140xl at the back w/ one fan in push)
also have a Zalman fan mate 2 w/ pump at around 5200rpm
tzm.

4 out of 5 eggs6 Weeks Still Waiting

This review is from: Cooler Master Nepton 140XL – Push-Pull CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 140mm Radiator and 2 JetFlo Fans

Pros: Keeps CPU Cool

Cons: Pump can make noise if it runs full.. I dial it down and it is fine.
One of the JetFlow Fans came apart a few months after installing.

Support folks are Fantastic "TY Eric"
But the Parts department leaves a lot to be desired.. I have waited over 6 weeks for a replacement fan.. I ended up slapping 2 Noctua's on it..

Other Thoughts: The JetFlow fans are Meh... when one failed I ran the Rad with just the 1 Fan and it still worked fine.. Except it is summer and my room is much hotter so my Mother Board was heating up from the proximity of the Radiator.. I needed to cool it better. I got 2 Noctua Fans to replace the 1 broken JetFlow (moved the good JetFlow on top of case) and the temps came back down.

If your buying this based on the Fans? Skip it.
Noctua Fans may cost more and maybe not the best of colors.. But they are so much better.. I get better Airflow. and they are very quiet even at 100%
So whatever you get I would factor in replacing the Fans with the appropriate Noctua Fans.

5 out of 5 eggsexcellent choice of cooler

This review is from: Cooler Master Nepton 140XL – Push-Pull CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 140mm Radiator and 2 JetFlo Fans

Pros: Well built radiator, feels durable.
EASY installation. Part of the reason i choose this over others was the installation was extremely simple.
keeps my fx9590 under 60C under full load, max i've seen is 55C

Cons: it is some what pricey, but you get a great cooler. Better than many other coolers that are larger based on reviews from a variety of websites.

Odd size, 140mm, makes it somewhat niche to cooler master cases. Not many have a 140mm fan slot that I've seen.

3 out of 5 eggsNoisy Pump

This review is from: Cooler Master Nepton 140XL – Push-Pull CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 140mm Radiator and 2 JetFlo Fans

Pros: Push-Pull configuration
Quiet fans
Flexible tubings - will not kink
Thick radiator

Cons: Noisy pump - emits high pitch noise
Radiator feels cheap and seems like it can be bent with enough force and radiator shape is slightly out of angle

5 out of 5 eggsGreat mid-level CPU liquid cooler

This review is from: Cooler Master Nepton 140XL – Push-Pull CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 140mm Radiator and 2 JetFlo Fans

Pros: Works great! Runs my CPU super cool and relatively quiet.

Cons: Installation can be kinda tricky. I've got one of those big high air flow cases and it's still kinda tight. NOT FOR SMALLER CASES!!!!!!
Also make sure you put the brackets on the correct way. If you don't the screws will appear to come up short.

Other Thoughts: Has 140mm and 120mm holes for the radiator and fans. Just make sure you can fit it.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Great.. Pump needs controller

This review is from: Cooler Master Nepton 140XL – Push-Pull CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 140mm Radiator and 2 JetFlo Fans

Pros: It both Small and BIG.. It's a tween.. It is larger then 120.. and smaller then the doubles YET still cools like a double and lets you put it in more places..
Easy to install.
I used the provided Thermal Paste - no need to buy something else - it works great.
It came with 2 Fans for Push Pull
Sturdy and nice looking unit.
Pump is quiet when slowed down to 5000 RPM

Cons: One of the JetFlo Fans just came apart While in operation. We will see how the Warranty process is...

Pump was a bit noticeable when it was running full throttle, but I got a ZALMAN FAN MATE 2 Fan Controller to manual dial in the pump speed. I had also used a 4 pin chassis fan header on my MB to control the Pump speed using SpeedFan.

I am having a small issue with getting my side panel on with my Corsair Carbide Series 500R but nothing major.
The issue is with the side panel and top support.. I might mod the panel but it stays on with just the bottom attached.

Other Thoughts: For those of you that are annoyed with the sound of the pump, manually tune is down to 5,000rpm.
Read this from a review on Maximum PC
The pump operated at a steady 6,300rpm, which is unusually high. We checked with Cooler Master, and the company agreed. We used a Zalman Fanmate to manually tune it down to 5,000rpm, at which point the pump noise didn’t stand out.

2 out of 5 eggsWorks great, super annoying high pitched sound

This review is from: Cooler Master Nepton 140XL – Push-Pull CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 140mm Radiator and 2 JetFlo Fans

Pros: It works very well, the double fans pump lots of air through and keeps the CPU cool even when playing games with several other programs running in the background.

Cons: However, it produces a high frequency noise that is annoying beyond belief. My computer should be quiet when I am just browsing the internet. I have had this for several months and did not really notice/care for a while as I normal had a headset on. Now that I have recently moved there has not be as much time to do so. The high pitched noise while the computer is sidling under no load expect for the OS is a nuisance and annoying to house guests and myself.

Other Thoughts: Until they fix this I would not purchase or recommend this product if you want a quiet machine.

2 out of 5 eggsGood cooler, bad hardware.

This review is from: Cooler Master Nepton 140XL – Push-Pull CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 140mm Radiator and 2 JetFlo Fans

Pros: The radiator, pump, tubes and fans all have a solid feel to them very sturdy. I have this cooler installed in a HAFX case and on an i7-4790k oc to 4.4ghz. I had plenty of room to install but my case is big, the cooler is keeping my cpu at around 25c - 30c and around 55c under load.

Cons: I took off three stars because the screws that come with this thing are terrible and cheap. Like other reviews have said the screws for mounting the fans to the radiator strip way to easy. I also had a problem with the actual mounting pins (that's what I'm calling them) the ones that hold the water block / pump to the back plate. When installing the threads on one of the mounting pins completely broke off inside the thumb fastener. I did not want to RMA the whole cooler just for one pin so I went to a local PC shop and they had something that does the job good enough. I feel that for the price Cooler Master could have included quality screws and pins to install their product. The Fans can also get really really loud if they run at full speed.

5 out of 5 eggsPretty Darn Good

This review is from: Cooler Master Nepton 140XL – Push-Pull CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 140mm Radiator and 2 JetFlo Fans

Pros: I bought this cooling system about 2 months ago and have to admit that I have no regrets.

Background:

I had the CM V8 GTS and before that I had CM V8. I was happy with the cooling, but I hated the size of them. So I started looking in the liquid cooling systems and narrowed my search down to something with 140mm fans.

Liquid Cooling Candidates:
I started with Corsair H90, and was supremely disappointed for the lack of cooling. Move over to NZXT Kraken x40, and was very pleased with it, but, the light on the pump and the extra wires coming out of the pump were a problem for me. Finally got the CM Nepton 140 and never looked back.

Why CM??
So, with my air cooling, while running Prime95 on my stock 5960x, I was getting the temps steady around 50 - 52 degree C. Which was good since my normal temps were around 30 degrees C. I ran the Prime95 after installing Corsair H90 and was shocked to see the temps touching 75 degree C. I was hoping for lower, faaar lower than that. Took the Corsair out and back in the box in no time. The normal running temps were same as my air cooling though. I almost gave up on moving to liquid cooling since I wasnt planning on going custom setup and the per-assembled kit from Corsair didnt do me any good. But then I someone suggested NZXT and CM, I thought, what the heck, lets check them out. Both NZXT and CM gave me almost same temps on normal run and on 100% using Prime95. NZXT, I have to admit, has the quietest fans between the two. On the normal load, I could barely hear the fan running, on the other hand the CM JetFlo sure sound like Jet. Depending on the temps, your fans might not even run initially. But when the temps go over 35 degree C, the fans kick in and you will hear them. I am thinking of replacing the fans, but for now they are not bothering me much. I might buy Akasa or Nactua, or I may just simple put the CM fans that were in my Casing. I tested the CM system with the 140m fans that came in my CM Stryker case and they were able to keep the system running on the same temps as the JetFlo fans. The only downside of using the casing fan is that they dont support PWM, so they must be connected directly to the PSU, meaning, running all the time. But we will see how it goes.

Cons: Well, CM Nepton 140XL can be LOUD. And like someone else mentioned, the radiator screw holes are pretty easy to strip if you try to rush or overtightened them. So, if you decide to go with CM 140XL, just take your time installing it, and dont tighten the screws with any tools. Hand tightening works just fine.

Other Thoughts: If you want your liquid cooling to be flashy and dont mind extra wires coming out of the pump, go with NZXT, but if you want something less flashy, and cheaper, and are willing to ignore the fan noise, CM 140XL will be more than what you need.

1 out of 5 eggsPump noise

This review is from: Cooler Master Nepton 140XL – Push-Pull CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 140mm Radiator and 2 JetFlo Fans

Pros: Even with low fan speeds, it keeps an overclocked Haswell very cool. Generally seems to be well-built with one huge exception.

Cons: To get a sense of the noise this pump makes, search YouTube for "Off air signal." Thinking my first Nepton 140XL was defective, I bought a second. It makes the exact same noise! I don't have the equipment to measure how loud it is, but I can hear the noise from 40 feet away with the cooler installed inside my Lian Li case and the lid closed. I could probably hear it from 50 or 60 feet away, but my house isn't that big.

Many reviews talk about how the fans will drown out the noise from the pump. That is true. They can - if you crank them way up. You can could also drown out the noise with a vacuum cleaner, hair dryer, Spinal Tap with the amps at 11, or Harley Davidson motorcycle.

If you are a sane person though, and use your motherboard's PWM signal to slow the fans down to ~800 RPM, you'll easily hear the pump. You can try reducing the pump's speed, but that only changes the tone, not the volume. Even at the lowest pump speed, the tone is very annoying. It serves as a constant reminder that you've made a $100 mistake.

Other Thoughts: Newegg is fantastic for returns of products like this one. They issued two RMAs for refunds and I'll be trying a Corsair Hydro H90 instead. Maybe I've been unlucky enough to get two defective units, but it isn't likely.
