5 out of 5 eggsVery quiet, good air flow

Pros: replaced bad stock fans in Cisco switches, works well for this purpose, much quieter than stock fans

Cons: a little loose in the Cisco switch case, though that's not really the fan's fault, also quieter than stock fan so might not cool as well, though that's not the fan's fault either. It is just for switches in my home lab so I appreciate the lower noise level.

Other Thoughts: very good fan, would buy this type again if I have a similar application need.

3 out of 5 eggsLoud but effective

Pros: Very strong fan for its size. Blows air stronger than many 120mm fans. Inexpensive.

Cons: Very very loud. I have five 120mm and one 200mm fans. This single fan is louder than all combined.

Other Thoughts: I could actually feel the lift the fan gave when i held the fan with it powered on. I just don't need a fan this strong for the purpose I had intended.

2 out of 5 eggsCheap fan

Pros: Has a 3 pin connector for RPM monitoring, it moves a fair amount of air for its size. Its cheap. . .

Cons: I purchased 5 of these fans for use in various computers. I have opened 4 of them so far and 1 was DOA. The other 3 ALL exhibit the same problem, massive vibration. I have one on a MCX159-CU north bridge cooler, it vibrates so much that you can hear it from at least 5 feet away in a carpeted room with multiple other computers running. The vibration is so extreme it makes the side panels of the Praetorian case rattle annoyingly(the side panels are securely attached). If the case touches my desk it amplifies the vibration noise so much I can hear it thought the wall in the next room.

Other Thoughts: It is cheap, it does work (3/4ths of the time so far at least). If this is going in a computer that wont be in an area that you could hear it, it will work for that. Otherwise go with a better fan.

Make sure to check on your screws from time to time, the vibration this thing makes may loosen them up over time.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks in a Cisco Catalyst 2950-T

Pros: Works as a perfect direct replacement for a bad fan in my Cisco Catalyst 2900XL 2950-T switch.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Warning: if you care about warranty or plan on purchasing a Cisco SmartNet package, don't open the switch chassis. Just buy the support contract and get them to fix it.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: These move quite a bit of air.

Cons: Loud, mostly from vibration. Using a speed controller makes it quiet and still very effective.

Other Thoughts: I am using two of these in a shuttle X27D case to replace the stock fan on the northbridge and add a fan to blow across the Atom heatsink. The northbridge one is stable, the one fastened to the case needs the speed controller to be quiet. before adding these the pc overheated and crashed every hour or two, now it has been running for weeks and makes a great little server.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes the job somewhat quieter

Pros: cheap, much less noise than typical 40mm 1u fan

Cons: none yet, I hope the last a while

Other Thoughts: I replaced 4 screaming loud 15k+ rpm fans with 6 of these puppies and brought the noise level down considerably on a half-length 1U dual opteron server. My cpu's do have active heatsinks and the total volume of the case is around 1/4 of a cubic foot. They don't blow nearly as much air indivudally, but using 6 of these and optimizing the air flow inside the case did the trick for me. There are better fans out there, but not at this price.

3 out of 5 eggsOne year later...

Pros: Cheap fan, still working after a year. Pushes a fair amount of air.

Cons: Cheap fan. It isn't very well made, that said it is still working. It does vibrate quite a bit, it isn't very quiet, but noise doesn't bother me.

Other Thoughts: Not likely to purchase this again. Will try something else next time. Overall it's an average product. I've certainly used better fans in the same size.

3 out of 5 eggsInexpensive - good for a cheap fix

Pros: It's not very expensive and move a decent amount of air at full power

Cons: It is a tad noisy, but better than a fan with bad bearings

Other Thoughts: The main PROM cooler failed on my SGI 320 right before I was about to sell it so I bought this fan for it and adapted it to work. It did its job with no fuss for about a week.

2 out of 5 eggsOk fan.

Pros: Nice little fan while it's running at full power.

Cons: First time I lowered the speed with a controller, it started clicking and has not stopped since.

Other Thoughts: Good fan while running at full power, but does not handle being slowed. Was a little loud at full speed, but that's most fans this size.

1 out of 5 eggsClackity-clack, it talks back.

Pros: Has a mobo-style connector.

Cons: This baby packs some *serious* vibration. You'd definitely need to have some damping material between it and whatever it was mounted to. Not that I ever made it that far, because both of these were rattling right out of the box. I mean a bad kind of rattle that sounds like the bearings are about shot (or in this case, not up to snuff). One also packed a considerably louder whir than the other. Look elsewhere.

Other Thoughts: Probably end up cutting off the connector and splicing it to one of the other fans I bought.
