Thermaltake CL-P0310 120mm CPU Cooling Fan

  • 1300-2000 RPM
  • 86.5 CFM
  • Copper Base & Aluminum Fin (142Fin)
ICON Loading...

While any system will generate heat, high performance systems will naturally run hotter – a lot hotter. Excessive temperature will cause slowdowns or crashes and can even damage the CPU and other components inside the case. Thermaltake's CL-P0310 Big Typhoon VX cooling fan is designed for those who don't want to risk their hard earned investment.

Its 120mm cooling fan moves up to 86.5CFM of cooling air at its maximum 2,000RPM yet its able to operate at much lower noise levels than a smaller fan with a maximum noise output of 24dBA. The VR controller lets users adjust the fan speed to optimize performance and noise level. The fan is paired with a copper heatsink base and 6 copper heat pipes which draw heat away from the CPU and up to 142 waved aluminum fins whose large surface area dissipates heat effectively while their waved shape reduces wind shear noise.

The Big Typhoon XV supports both AMD and Intel processors up to 130W. It installs with push pins onto chips using socket LGA775 and features tool-less clip installation onto K8 and the latest socket AM2 CPUs.

  • newegg Superior Heat Dissipation and Cooling Performance The Thermaltake CL-P0310 features high-density aluminum fins, coupled with a large copper base and 6 copper heatpipes, for excellent heat dissipation. Plus a 120mm cooling fan maximizes airflow for superior cooling performance. .
  • newegg Adjustable Fan Speed The Thermaltake CL-P0310 features a VR fan controller so you can fine tune the fan speeds for the optimum balance between cooling performance and noise level.
  • newegg Universal Socket Compatibility The Thermaltake CL-P0310 features broad compatibility with AMD socket 754, 939, and AM2 platforms, as well as the Intel LGA 775 platform.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent heatsink

Pros: Runs extremely cool, it's keeping my Athlon 64 x2 5600+ Brisbane at 18c in a 70f room.

Cons: None at all

Other Thoughts: This is probably the best cooling solution out there if you don't want to have to remove your motherboard and bolt a heatsink to the board.

4 out of 5 eggsGood quality, but room for improvement

Pros: -Very good quality
-Keeps CPU nice and chilly

Cons: -Push pin mounting system kinda sucks, the Zalman I just bought has a nice screw mount plate system (see Other Thoughts)
-Fan speed is not controllable by motherboard, the knob is on the fan itself so you have to open the case to adjust fan speed. Fine for overclockers, but I'm not interested in opening my case all the time.
-Slightly noisier than expected on medium and high speeds.

These cons are mostly my preference, and had I done more research I would not have bought this cooler. 4 eggs due to push pin mounting system.

Other Thoughts: -Very large. make sure you have room in your case. I have an Antec P180, fits just fine.
-The push pin design allows you to mount it without removing the mobo from the case. So it's not the best system, but easier if you do not want to disassemble your whole case.

1 out of 5 eggsworst thing ever!

Pros: nice looking...quiet

Cons: very bad cooling...
after a lot of research and banchmarks i went on this BT .
all of them said its one of the best.
im using it on athlon 64 3500 ...lost only 2-4c ideal was 37 and now 36 load was 52 and now 48 the worst thing is that my mb was at 34-36 all time and now 37-41 because this thing is blocking all the air in the case!
i think the problem is with amd processors because its only 2 claps and its not stable like with 4 claps
so if you have amd....DO NOT BUY THIS!!!!

Other Thoughts: i hate tt

5 out of 5 eggsAWESOME!!

Pros: Amazing product!! Overclocked my AMD +6000 from 3Ghz to 3.4Ghz running around 31*C stock and around 43*C under load. My last "high performance" CPU cooler doesnt even come close to this cooler. It is a pretty big cooler so make sure your case can handle it. I have about an inch space between the cooler fan and my case wall. I have a Raidmax Smilodon ATX-612WB mid tower.

Cons: Thermal compound that comes with the cooler is not the highest of quality. Make sure you some arctic silver laying around.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Cooler!

Pros: Great piping and heat distribution, as well as a large, fast, and very quite fan even at 100% speed. Used on a socket 939 AMD Athlon 64 3500+ clawhammer, overclocked from 2.2 to 2.6 stable at a max load temp of 43C. Brought my temps down on my stock cooler from 37C idle and 59C full load to 31C idle and 43C full load. Great cooler in my opinion and the size and weight aren't a problem as most people had complained, I know it is different for each person.

Cons: The bracket for socket 939 included with this is designed to attach to the stock bracket and connects nicely, however it has alot of room to move around. Roughly .5 cm of room on each side, so make sure you center it carefully; you can still wiggle it around even after the bracket is locked down.

Other Thoughts: Excellent product! Used arctic silver 5 thermal compound I had rather than the included thermal paste. Would definitely recommend this to any enthusiast. It does its job, and it does it very well.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it

Pros: 120mm fan is super quiet, moves ton of air. Holds my 4200+ (OC to 2.6) at 34C idle and 57 Load. I recommend this to anyone.

Cons: It is quite large but what do you expect. My Dominators barely fit on my board.

Other Thoughts: I would buy another again for sure. I also lapped the heatsink it was a little out of flatness. That lowered my temps 3c idle and 5c load.

5 out of 5 eggs** IT'S HUGE **

Pros: It's a big bugger. Currently keeps my AMD Phenom 9850 at 34C under normal load.

Cons: Perhaps make a little shorter to fit under the PSU of my case.
