As CPU processing power increases, so does the need to remove the damaging heat that increased power generates. Nowhere is this more apparent than with overclocked processorsrunning beyond their original specifications. This case is Intel Socket LGA775 or AMD Socket AM2/939/754), and now Intel Core i7 and Core i7 Extreme Edition Ready! The last thing a computer enthusiast wants when designing their machine, though, is to cap it off with an ugly cooler.

Thermaltake has long led the pack in CPU cooling, with many of its cooling strategies being adopted by others. They develop breakthrough, supremely functional designs with an extra element of style. Its all-copper construction provides maximum efficiency in conducting damaging heat away from the CPU. A group of four heatpipes draw heat upward from the mirror-finished base which lies in perfect contact with the chip.

The array of dissipation fins enables the 110mm fan to easily move 86.5CFM at 2000RPM by creating multiple air intake points. The speed can be adjusted to balance the cooling performance and the already low 24dBA noise level. The blue LED lights within the fan add a stylish glow against the copper surfaces enhancing the appearance of your system.

  • newegg Superior Heat Dissipation and Cooling Performance Four innovatively-designed copper heatpipes and high-density copper fins maximize heat transfer and dissipation. Plus a 110mm, 2000RPM cooling fan delivers an air flow of up to 86.5 CFM for exceptional cooling performance.
  • newegg Adjustable Fan Speed The Thermaltake V1 CL-P0401 features a VR fan controller so you can fine tune the fan speeds for the optimum balance between cooling performance and noise level.
  • newegg Universal Socket Compatibility The Thermaltake V1 CL-P0401 features broad compatibility with AMD socket 754, 939 and AM2 platforms, as well as the Intel LGA 775 platform.

4 out of 5 eggsGood fan for the money

Pros: Nice looking fan. Easy install and covers various chips. Yes its big like a good fan should be. Keeps my FX 8350 cooler than stock fan. Running BF4 at around 40C while the stock fan would have me around 48 to 50C. not too big of a difference but looking forward to bumping the voltage with this guy.

Cons: The whole thing is fragile, you have to handle it by the heat pipes or the fins will bend out of place. Even though install is easy the instructions are vague. It is not PWM. It comes with thermal paste but its very cheap stuff

Other Thoughts: It looks great in the window of my case. One mistake i made was make sure you peel off the plastic tab on the bottom of the heatsink, its nearly invisible. I never saw it and applied thermal paste as normal and overheated twice before i figured it out. Instructions do not state this.

5 out of 5 eggsLove this fan

Pros: Every time I build a computer, this is the fan that I put on my CPU. It's quiet, and the blue led adds a nice touch to a system as well.

It keeps the cpu quite cool, and if you have a case with good airflow, you should never have a heat issue come up.

Cons: None

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Great, but....

Pros: Easy to install and works great. Used on a Supermicro board with LGA775 Q6660. This cooler does block one x4 slot on my motherboard. The variable speed control gives a wide range of fan speed. Significant lowering of CPU temperature compared Intel stock cooler. Fan has low noise level.

Cons: I purchased this cooler in mid November of 2013 with a rebate offer like the one being offered today. I sent the rebate in promptly and was approved. This is mid February 2014 and I have not received rebate payment. I had a maximum of 20 days to send in the rebate application. How long should it take to send the rebate back to me?

5 out of 5 eggsSuperb good for FX processors

Pros: Cools very well. Option to really crank it up with fan controller. Looks cool. I drilled a hole in the empty space on my MB's face-plate and the cord reaches it just fine and I don't have to open the case to adjust it. I am a big system fan guy and for me there is room for 3 fans using this cooler. I love the V-shape.

Cons: Fan is loud when you run it at max. I only run it at max for bench-marking and don't have any overheating issues on the much quieter, slower speed so it works for me.

Other Thoughts: Take your motherboard out to install this cooler. It is too easy to apply pressure unevenly during installation which can cause improper spreading of the thermal paste. The die size of an AMD processor is indicated in the picture on the box it came in. I looked online for a picture of an uncapped FX processor and finally found a fuzzy one. I was going to actually call AMD to ask what the die size is when I saw the picture on my FX-6100's box. The middle white part of the picture matched up with the uncapped picture I found online. The die size for an FX processor is smaller than the cap by a noticeable margin so even if it doesn't entirely cover the cap, the die is being cooled properly. The other AMD processor series have different die sizes and may/may not have the die covered completely by this cooler.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks with FM2+

Pros: TomsHardware had a post stating the FM2+ retainers were the same as FM2/FM1, AM3/AM2 which proved to be true. The fan is running QUIETLY at half speed and the CPU is nice and cool. Good price for an aftermarket cooler.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Not really a con, but this is a massive cooler. Make sure you have the case clearance for 143mm. Also, the AMD retainer clip is a bit like a toy. This is my first AMD build and the Intel retainer for my old Zalman fan felt more meaty. Anyway, it works.

4 out of 5 eggs30 Degree celcius drop at load!

Pros: Beautiful, quiet, efficient, pretty easy to install.

Cons: A little tight on the install right next to the ram chips, and the speed adjuster needs an extension cable for sure, it would be nice if you could run the adjuster a few inches away from the fan and heatsink

2 out of 5 eggsis that a jet engine? Nope, it's the fan.

Pros: it functions, and it cools.

Cons: the securing bracket is angles in the middle, sort of shaping it like an M. It appears this is causing the fan blades to hit it.
in other news, my headphones appear to have been painted red while I've been wearing them...

Other Thoughts: nails on a chalkboard
teeth grinding
very high pitched ringing.
Do you enjoy these sounds? Then this is the right CPU cooler for you!

1 out of 5 eggsComplete waste of money

Pros: It looks cool

Cons: It is completely useless. I reseated it multiple times using fresh thermal paste and the thing won't pull the heat from my CPU worth $&!?. The stock CPU cooler is ten times more effective. Also I got denied the rebate for being three days late on postmark which was only a week after I even got it in the mail and didn't realize how soon it was. Basically I paid too much and it wasn't worth the the copper it's made of
