1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT GET FOR i7

Pros: A beautiful looking product. From a visual standpoint, it is very impressive.

Cons: I had a custom i7 920 PC made for me by CPUSolutions.com with the V1 AX. Upon boot up, the V1AX fan was hitting the aluminum heatsink. After writing Thermaltake for advice, they told me to bend it and it worked. I was expecting to be able to overclock the PC with the V1AX, but alas, heat. With a mild overclock to my 920 to 3.33ghz and the fan on low, Prime95 peaked at 84 degrees after 20 minutes and i shut it down. I upped the fan, and its only a few degrees different. I am so dissappointed in Thermaltake. I have held them in high regard for so long and bought this product without hesitation. I am so disappointed. I would set it again, but there are multiple reviews that indicate this problem. I think Thermaltake should pull this product. It has ruined their reputation with me.

Other Thoughts: As the other reviews have noted, if you have an i7, you should not have a V1 or V1AX. I wish i knew about this ahead of time.

5 out of 5 eggsAMAZING cooler

Pros: Very good cooler, low noise, beautiful blue led, interesting design, manual fan control

Cons: I had some troubles installing it, First time I installed it in a wrong direction so the air was blowing left and right..and temp where like 50-55 in idle..then i changed direction to up and down and temp fallen to 45-40..i performed 7-Zip test with 8 threads and cpu temp wasn't more than 55

Other Thoughts: Fan control wire is short.
I like Thermaltake products :)

5 out of 5 eggsCool in Both Ways

Pros: This cooler is great. It fits the coloring of my case and also helps keep my overclocked e7300 (O.C.'d to 3.4 Ghz) nice and cool. Normally I don't like the push pins used on 775 cpu cooler connectors, but I felt that this cooler was actually stable with them. Size is also not that bad. Any midtower atx case and up should fit it with no problems. But, always measure! It also comes with 1366 connectors for when I upgrade to the i7's!

Cons: The fins are easy to bend if you don't hold the cooler correctly, so make sure to keep your fingers awat from the fins. (this should be common knowledge so I'm not really counting this one against them)

1 out of 5 eggsNot great with i7

Pros: Pretty blue lights...

Cons: Normal idle and load temps are ok. Any sort of OC on an i7 and running prime95 core temps shoot to 90-100. Lower voltages still get to these temps just takes a little longer. Have reset 4 times with no luck. Has similiar results as the stock heat sink under prime 95 load, except normal loads are 5 degrees celsius lower. Going to dump this heatsink as it performs only slightly better then my stock heatsink.

Other Thoughts: I don't care if EVGA used this heatsink in their over clocking guide. Actually to be correct they used the V1 cooler which is copper not aluminum so they really didn't use this heat sink in their guide. Fact is there are multiple reviews with the same results, it's no operator error. The product is just junk.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry to hear your experience. This CPU cooler should perform much better than what have described through our testing. Please contact us so we can help with the issue and the installation of the cooler.

1 out of 5 eggsBad choice for i7 Overclock

Pros: Pretty blue lights.

Cons: It fails to effectively do the one thing its supposed to. Reseated it twice with no changes in results. Idle temps are fine (30 - 40 c), light load temps are...acceptable ( 40 - 50 C), but if you load up the cpu with 8 threads of prime95 you will see the temps on all cores shoot up to 80-100C. Unacceptable. The i7 platform is great and most applications don't require anywhere near 100% load, but for those that do this heatsink will not be sufficient.

Other Thoughts: Go with a heatsink that has a backplate. From what I have seen all of the stock and other "snap in" style heatsinks are having similar results.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes what I want it too

Pros: I am running an e6750 OC'd to 3.2ghz and maintaining an idle temp of 42c. Under full load the highest it's ever gotten was 53c, and yes that's Prime95 temps.

Cons: This thing is a beast, but that's not really a con for me. In fact it's design is fairly brilliant imo.

Get rid of the LED. Not everyone on earth like their comp to look like a christmas parade at an import car show.

Other Thoughts: I made sure my air flow circulates right across the fanned out fins helping push the heat right out the case as quick and easy as can be.

1 out of 5 eggsNot any better than stock

Pros: Looks pretty with the blue light.

Cons: Doesn't cool any better than stock. Forget overclocking with this. Idle temps are a few degrees cooler than stock, but at high loads its no better.

Other Thoughts: At stock settings, this cooler idles at 32C, but at full load (prime95) it reaches 80C. Even the slightest overclock and temps reach 100C and the CPU begins to throttle.

I've reseated this 5 times, using different TIMs and results are the same or worse.

Get this if you want something pretty to look at, but don't expect any performance out of it.
