The TR2 range of coolers were created by Thermaltake to provide efficient CPU cooling solutions for those on a budget. The TR2 coolers are designed to provide reliable, effective, heat reduction for current processors. The A4022 doesn't cut corners in regards to cooling. Its all-aluminum base provides optimal thermal conductivity of damaging heat away from the CPU. The 92mm fan spins at 1300 RPM and moves over 35 CFM of cooling air over the aluminum convection fins at a quiet 16 dBA noise level.

The A4022 installs quickly and easily – and without tools – using retention clips to provide good contact with the CPU's heat spreader. This highly rated cooler will help protect your investment on AMD socket 754, 939 and AM2 processors, such as AMD Athlon 64 X2, AMD Athlon 64 FX or Sempron processor.

  • newegg 92mm Silent Fan The 92mm 900 ~ 1700 RPM silent cooling fan operates at a mere 16dBA for quiet cooling.
  • newegg Universal Socket Compatibility The Thermaltake A4022 features broad compatibility with all Sempron processors (Socket 754) and AM2/939 platforms.
  • newegg Easy Installation The Thermaltake A4022 features tool-less clips that enable extremely convenient installation without additional tools or the need to remove the motherboard from your case.

5 out of 5 eggs125w

Pros: Quiet, large heat sink with lots of fins. Installed with no problems.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have three of these hs/f mounted on AMD 125 watt CPUs. Thermaltake says these hs/f are good up to a 95w CPU but they run cool on my non-overclocked game machines.

2 out of 5 eggsCan't cool a 125W CPU

Pros: Very quiet, Seems like it's made well

Cons: Won't keep my 125W Phenom 9850 cool even with better than stock thermal paste. Idles at 45C and under load goes up to 82C and hits the thermal shutdown of the CPU. No copper at all, It's all aluminum which is inferior for heat transfer/dispersion.

Other Thoughts: This is probably ok for any dual core or non phenom chips but when it comes to 125W or anything close to that get something else.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
The A4022 supports up to 95W.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Cooler!

Pros: I have owned this cooler for almost 3 years without a problem. It is super quiet and keeps may processor cool even under very heavy loads and when playing games on the highest settings.

Cons: None, I love this cooler and have often recommended it.

4 out of 5 eggsIce Monster

Pros: 20C drop in CPU temp

Cons: Installation in ASUS M5A99 EVO required some fabrication skill. Instructions included are poor

Other Thoughts: It was kind of a PITA to install, as I had to do some modifications to the motherboard itself to get the clips for the heatsink to secure everything properly. Still, the efforts were worth it. My 6 core processor was frying eggs in the high 60's C with the standard AMD fan/heatsink combo, and this heatsink brought things down into the mid 40's C. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I might not have believed it.

5 out of 5 eggsOlder MB owners must read

Pros: Silent, keeps the processor cool, silent, keeps the processor cool, and did i say silent? Now I have to note that in my build it is a little louder than what it would be, but that is no fault of the cooler. The fault lies in my motherboard.

If you have an older mother board, this cooler may give you a cpu fan failure warning and then shutdown the pc. The reason is this cooler starts at around 500 RPMS with a max speed of 1300 RPMS. Some older motherboards are set to display cpu fan failure if the speed of the fan is below a certain threshold. Old HP motherboards that threshold I think is around 800 RPMs. Now if your motherboard has the option of disabling this safety feature you should be in the clear, if not, then you can do this.

Plug a nearby case fan into the CPU_FAN plug on the motherboard and use a 3 pin to molex adapter to hook this cooler straight to the powersupply or to a SYS_FAN plug on the motherboard. I tried both, but settled for the PSU plug because my SYS_FAN port does not activate immediately on boot up. It takes a minute or so. With it hooked straight to the PSU, this cooler will run at Max RPMs instead of being regulated by the motherboard with AMD coolnquiet. Still this has taken me from idling in the mid 60s, to idling in the low 30s, from full load in the low 70s to full load in the upper 40s. I expect a little bit of a drop once the arctic silver has set.

Cons: None that i can find

4 out of 5 eggsVery quiet

Pros: Very, very quiet. Easy to install.

Cons: Don't like how the fan blades are so exposed. If I would've noticed that before making the purchase, I wouldn't have purchased it.

5 out of 5 eggsGood cheap cooler

Pros: It's low priced and was easy to install. It also had the thermal paste pre applied. I can't really ask for much more than that from a 15 dollar cooler can you?

Cons: None that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: I used this cooler to replace the cooler that came on a systemMax pc I had ordered from another mail order company. The original cooler was dieing and the amd anthlon x2 cpu was actually hitting 65c to 70c just sitting there. Needless to say if you watched so much as a youtube video the pc would shut down to protect the cpu. Now according to psensor the cpu is sitting at 35c and I don't think I've seen it go above 43c since the cooler was installed.
