Untouchable cool

No matter how big your RAM physically is, the Thermaltake NiC series (The lineup consists of the F3, F4, C4, and C5) CPU cooler can stay with your RAM side by side on your motherboard. That is thanks to its proprietary technology. Now your CPU cooler not only delivers superior cooling performance with a low noise level, but also offers the maximum compatibility with RAM. The Thermaltake NiC series C4 offers up to 200W cooling power.

Picture showing the cooler leaves much space for RAMs

  • newegg Offers maximum clearance for your RAMs The new Thermaltake NiC series CPU cooler offers the maximum clearance for your RAMs after installation. Your high-end overclocked RAM now can co-exist with your high-end CPU cooler.
  • newegg Conducts heat effectively, all the way up to the aluminum fins The included thermal grease makes your CPU cooler and CPU contacted seamlessly for fast heat conduction from the CPU to the thick nickel coated copper base. Then heat will be transferred to the four F6mm "U"-shaped heat pipes, while the heat pipes transfer heat to the aluminum fins.
  • newegg Curved Aluminum Fins In order to reduce back air resistance and maximize airflow through the aluminum fins, the aluminum fins are designed in a curved shape. The 0.4mm-thick aluminum fins also increase the overall thermal dissipation area.
  • newegg Integrated Dual 120mm VR fans The integrated dual 120mm VR fans make cooling performance a step further. All of them are contacted to an adjustable fan speed knob, which allows you to manually adjust fan speed from 1000 to 2000rpm. The tool-less fan mounting bracket makes installation easier.
  • newegg Universal compatibility with CPU This CPU cooler features an all-in-one back-plate design. All accessories are included to support all the latest Intel and AMD platforms (Intel LGA 2011/1366/1155/1156/1150/775 and AMD FM2/FM1/AM3+/AM3/AM2+/AM2).

4 out of 5 eggscools very good!

Pros: This cooler cools better than some liquid cpu coolers.

Cons: I did not Know that this cooler had a manual speed control nob on the fan lead, and if you turn the speed up above about 1700 rpm it screams like a banshiee but fortunately you do not have to turn this cooler up that high to get a good cooling affect.

Other Thoughts: It is a very well made cooler and the mounting plate and heat pipes are nickel plated and the mounting plate is polished to a perfect mirror finish witch allows for better heat transfer. I would suggest however that you get the VRM version of this cooler it is exactly the same cooler only VRM. This cooler is good for over clockers the manual control gives you the piece of mind of not having to rely on temp sensors that may not be accurate.

5 out of 5 eggsNice and powerfull Heatsink

Pros: Very good compromise for Quality\Price. Excellent heat dissipation, dimmer include for speed fans. Designed for let the ram space free. Can be used in mid-atx tower.

Cons: The quality of fan enclosure seem to be a little bit cheap, don't unclip or unmount it for nothing, remove it only for annual cleaning only.

2 out of 5 eggsVery disapointed

Pros: Installation is quite easy, and that's good because I reseated it 4 times. I like the look because it goes with my ROG motherboard. I didn't get a little knob speed control, but my board adjusts the speed when necessary, and keeps it nice and slow. It is very quiet at low speeds.

Cons: Okay, I am running i7 4790K, and I got it to run at 4.7 GHz at 1.31v. I also got it to run at 4.6GHz at 1.27v. Idle temps hover around 25 - 28 (I an in a cool room). I let it idle for a while, surf the net, then let it idle for a few.
So I run Prime95 small FFTs and as soon as it starts the temps hit the 90's and within 30 secs all had maxes of 96 - 99 and thermal throttling was reducing the CPU speed to 4.55 to 4.6.
I ran the regular test and it still got up into the 90's withing about 5 minutes. I had the fans blowing out the back, a COUGAR CF-V12HP Vortex (120CFM) exhaust at the rear, a 220mm top fan blowing down, and a 220 side fan blowing in. Then I tried switching the overhead and side fans to every combo. and also tried taking air into the cooler from the back and reversing the C4 to blow into the case, again with the various combos of the 220 fans.
Nothing made any difference except in idle. Sometimes I got ~31, and other ~26 or 27.

I tried using porcelain based paste, arctic silver, and I remounted the cooler several times just to get the feel for the exact right tightness.
Another problem was that when tight, and I don't mean as hard as I could turn it but just until it seemed to want to stop. When I got immediate 90's in Prime, and after 5 minutes, or less, of OCCT, I removed the heat sink, and because it is convex, the whole up and down across the CPU, where the core is, I had actual metal to metal contact about 2 - 4 mm wide. So, again, I tried not tightening it as much, checked again, and found the exact amount to tighten it. I tried using a drop in the middle of the CPU, and also a thin bead running from top to bottom over the core.

This cooler hits 95 in Prime small FFTs within seconds every time, even running 4.6 and 1.27v. It hits 90's in OCCT within a few minutes as well. It is scary how much this cooler gives out/can't handle, high loads, even at lower voltage. I have no idea what is wrong. I use HWInfo for temps and voltages, and I double check with Real Temp and Core Temp.

That last critique I have is also quite bad, and that is that this is also the noisiest cooler I have ever used on any of my builds, and I mean by a fair bit. With the side of the case open(which I also did for checking temps)< you have to raise your voice slightly to talk. Those fans are loud..

Other Thoughts: I don't understand why this cooler doesn't seem to be at all any better than a stock Intel would be. No, I would not recommend this Cooler. Maybe I am expecting to much out of it, but a few reviews, eteknix.com for one, gave this thing rave reviews and recommended it for mid to high end gaming.
I like it's looks and ease of install, and the mirror finish for the base, but man, I've never seen temps shoot up to max like this before.

3 out of 5 eggsLooks nice, but not sure about the preformance

Pros: It cools good enough to pass as a cooler...
It makes my build look awesome as it matches my other hardware.
At low speed it's fairly quiet, but full speed is a different story.

Cons: -Full Speed at 2000 rpms I get an OKAY 40-50 degrees Celsius at idle, but it's loud!
-Lower speed at 1000 rpmit's nice and quiet, but I get around 50-60 Celsius.
My cpu is amd Athlon 860k and it could be its temp core's problem, but BIOS and AMD Overdrive both show about the same temps...

Other Thoughts: -Overall, it does the job alright, but the fact that I spent 45$ makes me kinda mad that it doesn't cool amazingly. I almost want to try the Athlon's stock cooler to see how different it is.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
Did you overclock the CPU? Temperature is little bit high for 95W TDP CPU. Please contact our support team about this matter.

1 out of 5 eggsVery disappointing

Pros: Looks cool.

Cons: Parts were very poorly machined. Some of the metal seem warped. Screw holes were completely stripped.

Other Thoughts: Very disappointed in Thermaltake this time. Based on the other reviews, this might be a unique case, but I won't be trying this one again.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
We will replace it through warranty service. Please contact Thermaltake support team for RMA instructions.

5 out of 5 eggsScared of Beefy Coolers, Fell in Love

Pros: It fits any layout if your case is reg ATX and can house it. Super forgiving and doesn't crowd anything. Comes with all the adapters you could need. Runs cold and quietly (even on highest setting).

Dirt cheap for a great effective good looking cooler. I love it.

I hated all the "direct pipe" uneven mounting surfaces of other coolers. Just a few years ago it was called the devil, now that is all companies seem to make as a gimmick. The mirrored nickel flush surface on this is PERFECT! Thank you for making this product.

Cons: The plastic all in one adapter backplate I do not like, I felt like I was going to crack it. The board stock heatsink backplate holder was metal based, I would have at least liked to see a metal cored plastic or something matching what I had. I would pay more for a better back plate.

I also don't like how there is so much play when I happen to bump the cooler. If you tap it, the thing moves from side to side on the CPU way too much, luckily I am not fidgeting in the case that much.

The pressure to mount the screws is too tight, like beyond what I believe is reasonable by almost a full 2 turns of the screws. I would like longer screws and the OPTION to torque the heck out of it, not these short things and a lot of praying "please don't crack" being forced to. I am sure they did this due to the size of the cooler but it gets a bit intense on install.

Other Thoughts: I wish the securing metal clamp over the middle of the contact pad was, instead of being so ridiculously tight, actually restricted side to side movement better of the cooler as a whole. It is just a tad too easy to move.

Price is ridiculous for what you get, a steal really. My temps are so much lower than I expected. I run it on high and I barely hear it going. Everyone complained about noise on youtube, I don't even hear it at all with my head in the case next to it. If I put it on low its literally silent but I like high flow.

I felt the drawbacks were so tiny and the deal so great I couldn't deduct a star. It is that nice.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat heatsink.

Pros: heatsink works great. took my new build down from a max temp of 73 C to a temp of 49 C. running an fx-8350 overclocked. heatsink fit on the motherboard great without covering any Ram slots or anything else which is a huge plus

Cons: only con I found which wasn't too bad was I had to remove one of my case fans from the side panel. since the heatsink is so tall the two would hit each other and the side panel wouldn't go on. but it wasn't a big enough deal to take an egg off.
