Untouchable cool

No matter how big your RAM physically is, the Thermaltake NiC series (The lineup consists of the F3, F4, C4, and C5) CPU cooler can stay with your RAM side by side on your motherboard. That is thanks to its proprietary technology. Now your CPU cooler not only delivers superior cooling performance with a low noise level, but also offers the maximum compatibility with RAM. The Thermaltake NiC series C5 offers up to 230W cooling power.

overview picture

  • newegg Offers maximum clearance for your RAMs The new Thermaltake NiC series CPU cooler offers the maximum clearance for your RAMs after installation. Your high-end overclocked RAM now can co-exist with your high-end CPU cooler.
  • newegg Conducts heat effectively, all the way up to the aluminum fins The included thermal grease makes your CPU cooler and CPU contacted seamlessly for fast heat conduction from the CPU to the thick nickel-coated copper base. Heat is then transferred to the five F6mm "U"-shaped heat pipes, while the heat pipes transfer the heat to the aluminum fins.
  • newegg Curved Aluminum Fins In order to reduce back air resistance and maximize airflow through the aluminum fins, the aluminum fins are designed in a curved shape. The 0.4mm-thick aluminum fins also increase the overall thermal dissipation area.
  • newegg Integrated Dual 120mm VR fans The integrated dual 120mm VR fans take cooling performance a step further. All of them are contacted to an adjustable fan-speed knob, which allows you to manually adjust the fan speed from 1000 to 2000rpm. The tool-less fan mounting bracket makes installation easier.
  • newegg Universal compatibility with CPUs This CPU cooler features an all-in-one back-plate design. All accessories are included to support all the latest Intel and AMD platforms (Intel LGA 2011/1366/1155/1156/1150/775 and AMD FM2/FM1/AM3+/AM3/AM2+/AM2).

Features

Features
This new CPU cooler series with non-interference cooling space for the ram and motherboard area, the advancement towards silence, performance and compatibility. Fully compatible with RAM of all kinds, ideally for power users to fill their RAM slots with high-end overclocked RAM.

The new NiC Series coolers solve the problem that high performance RAM and CPU coolers cannot co-exist in the past. NiC series coolers achieve the best RAM clearance allowing user to install high end overclock RAM with coolers with ease.

Heat is conducted from the CPU onto the cooler through the thick nickel coated copper base and then onto the aluminum fins with 5 F6mm U-shaped heat-pipes. This ensures the best possible heat dissipation performance conducting heat effectively.

Aluminum fins are specially designed in a curved shape to reduce back air resistance and at the same time maximize airflow through them. The 0.4mm thick aluminum fins also increase the overall thermal dissipation area.

Both VR fans are contacted to an adjustable fan speed knob where the fans speed can be manually adjusted from 1000 to 2000rpm. A convenient tool-less fan mounting bracket design makes installation easier.

All-in-one back-plate design, the universal socket offers support all latest Intel and AMD platform.

2 out of 5 eggsGood Cooler. Bad Mounting Design

Pros: Keeps cpu cool
2 fans mounted on each side.

Cons: Horrible mounting design.

Other Thoughts: I have the AMD FX 8350 and Asus Crosshair V Formula Z motherboard. One of the mounting brackets I had to force in because it was up against the mobo heat sink. I didnt think I could get it at first but it did. The screws to mount the cooler were hard to tighten down. If the mounting design was better I would recommend this to anyone, but for now I would recommend you buy something else.

4 out of 5 eggsCareful with the bolts

Pros: (Mounted on 1150) It's a serious cooler and mounts securely if all goes well.

Cons: The threads on the hold-down bolts are very fine (like M3) and if any of them gets cross-threaded it's ruined. Substituting a #6 machine screw almost worked but it would not quite fit through the slot.

1 out of 5 eggsfollow up second review

Pros: None

Cons: Will not fit SABERTOOTH X79 motherboard. No way to get bottom plate of cooler to contact CPU. Asked for RMA from Newegg and referred to Thermaltake who say RMA up to Newegg! "Pass the buck" Called 800 support number for Thermaltake in their small (5) tech dept. and got "Alex", refused last name and he said his model worked perfectly, and if mine did not it was entirely my fault for not following the incomprehensible instructions. He was adversarial, impatient, abrupt, and barely spoke or understood English. Supposed to be a hole in plate to hold cooler in place but no hole in my plate. Refused to admit their cooler wrong!

Other Thoughts: Thermaltake kept sending me back to Newegg for RMA, would not listen to problems with their cooler. Everything was MY fault for not being able to read and understand Chinglish instructions and questions. I will never buy anything from Thermaltake again! NOTHING! Very frustrating and annoying experience

1 out of 5 eggsmore bad news

Pros: None, never could get the cooler installed on my ASUS X79 motherboard. Asked for RMA so far not successful. Referred to "Alex" in Los Angeles, who barely speaks English, is impatient, adversarial, and blames all problems on my not understanding the poor instructions. No help. No offer to RMA. Kept saying it was up to Newegg! Worthless!

Cons: The unit I have will NOT fit my ASUS SABERTOOTH X79 motherboard and no help from 800 number from small number of techs (5) in Los Angeles. No hole in plate where Thermaltake said their should be one. Impossible to get cooler plate to make contact with the CPU. Instructions are useless. I want RMA and they keep saying it's up to Newegg not their fault for ANYTHING.

Other Thoughts: I asked for RMA from Newegg and they referred me to Thermaltake, totally inadequate tech support, incomprehensible instructions, tech who barely speaks or understands English, and blames all problems on customer. Don't waste time calling for Support. at their 800 number. You're on your own with ANY problems. Cooler is unused and new in box for return, NEVER was able to get any of it installed. It will just be a wasteful pile worthless junk. Good only to take up space. I will never buy anything from Thermaltake again!

1 out of 5 eggsBeware, Terrible

Pros: Promises not fulfilled

Cons: Will not fit of ASUS SABERTOOTH X79 motherboard!, instructions, spotty and incomprehensible. Support nonexistent or worthless. Don't waster your money! You'll be sorry!

Other Thoughts: No way to figure out how to get heat sink in contact with CPU! Huge waste of time. Almont NO instructions and written by non-English. Only They MAY know how to make the cooler fit any mothereboard!!! I would like to RMA the cooler if I could figure out how!

3 out of 5 eggs120mm Thermaltake CPU COOLER NIC C5

Pros: It works and keeps the cpu very cool. Very nice appearance also.

Cons: Used to cool an AMD FX 8 Core and didn't like the mounting design. The FRIO has a much better AMD design for mounting. The clamp on this one has so much pressure that 1 of the 2 tiny screws started to strip upon tightening as they are tiny and don't have much strength to them. I stop upon feeling the stripped feeling as I was snugging them up. I finished the build and turned on PC... temps were cool and pc was happy, even though I was not....Screws need to be thicker and stronger. I will not buy this again. FRIO is a much better model made by the same company.

Other Thoughts: This cooler cools stuff.

4 out of 5 eggsNice cooler, but no PWM

Pros: -Good temps
-Easy install
-Good clearance
-Nice looks
-Good 'value' price

Cons: -No PWM control, knob can be annoying
-a little loud on full speed

Other Thoughts: This is currently cooling my slightly overclocked i7 4790k.
Cpu runs at 4.2 ghz with stock voltage. Temps are solid, even running cinebench r15. max core temp on min speeds is 65 degrees. on max speeds that drops to 55 degrees. Solid cooler, would recommend, lack of PWM is irritating though

4 out of 5 eggsGreat cooling, terrible assembly

Pros: Great cooling performance with push-pull fans. Able to handle high overclock well. Wish it had LED fans, but the fans it comes with can be replaced.

Cons: I've built over a dozen systems in the last year and this by far was the worst heatsink I've had to attach. The amount of force required to bolt the heatsink down on the brackets is staggering. Really thought I was going to break the mobo or warp the socket this time. You get one screw partially in then with the force required to get the next one to reach, the first one pops out. Very heavy, very difficult. Wish fans were LED.

4 out of 5 eggsGood cooler

Pros: 1. Looks good
2. High CFM
3. Does what it is supposed to

Cons: 1. Aluminum
2. Mounting bracket seemed a little clunky attaching (Might be however as I had just spent 2 hours building this rig and this was one of the last things I put in.)

Other Thoughts: I have 4 exhaust fans around this. One 140mm going out the back of the case with this thing pushing air towards it. And 3 120mm on the top of the case with this sitting roughly under the middle one. I think there may be some slight turbulence caused by the config as i can feel air turning on the intake fan for it.
