4 out of 5 eggs3.0 Extreme -update

Pros: Easy to install.
Price equal to others of the same or higher quality.
Maintenance free.
Decent cooler for idle temps but really shines when at max loads gaming or processing.

Cons: 9 months later both fans are making noise. 1 random loud grinding, 2nd intermittent chirping.
No way I could find to replace the water with better coolants or LN2.
Fan Control Software issues: if i change either of the 3 cooling profiles from their default speed\temp curve the fans will automatically go to full speed and stay there. as soon as i set them back to default fans go back to normal.

Other Thoughts: Most reviews I've read around claim this is better than the other CLCs in this price\performance range.

If the "silent" mode isn't quiet enough for you, you may be out of luck. Changing to lower speeds per temperatures results in the fans at 100% for some reason.

I would suggest replacing the fans.

With default hardware and software profiles silent mode keeps me idling around 25°, intense gaming I've never passed 52°. FX-8350 @ 4.8GHz.

1 out of 5 eggs2.0 Extreme Failure, beware 3.0 users

Pros: I purchased a Thermaltake CLW0217 Water 2.0 Extreme cooler from Newegg in September of 2012. I had built a new PC around the AMD FX-8120 Zambezi 8-core 3.1 GHz Socket AM3+ 125W processor. The stock fan was unable to keep the machine cool enough so I looked for another solution and decided to try this water cooler.

For a year or so it seemed to work fine.

Cons: In the last year it has become hypersensitive to the slightest trace of dust on the radiator (no change to my PC during that time). It has gotten to the point where I've had to blow the dust off the radiator every week just to keep the PC running.

Within the past two months things have gotten even worse. Now even after blowing all the dust off the radiator the coolant temperature climbs to over 130 degrees F with the computer on and doing nothing, just idling!

I am extremely frustrated with this cooler. The PC will not stay running now for more than a few minutes now without overheating and shutting itself off. I have no choice now but to remove this cooler and replace it with something else.

I am replacing it with a large air cooled unit from Enermax that has worked very well on another almost identical PC.I will be buying the replacement from Newegg of course.

I am open to suggestions but it is acting as if there is some sort of major blockage inside the CPU heat exchanger. I've written to Thermaltake and am awaiting their reply.

Other Thoughts: If Thermaltake responds well and determines that something inside their system caused the problem I'll let you know. Maybe they've fixed it with the 3.0, I can't say but wanted to warn my fellow users.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
We will not be able to determine the exact cause of your issues without more information regarding your system and your specific Water 2.0 Extreme. The Water 2.0 Extreme is, however, backed by a 3 year warranty and we can replace your unit through warranty service. Please contact Customer Service who will provide you with RMA instructions.

3 out of 5 eggsGood but...?

Pros: Looks cool and did improve my cooling compared the previously installed Cooler Master Geminii S524. Idle and load temps do seem more stable and don't fluctuate as much.

Cons: I was hoping for better cooling performace; my numbers are nowhere near some of the other claims. My CPU average idle temp is about 31C-35C and load (gaming) is about 40C-45C. I was hoping to get numbers below 30C. Still doing a good job to maintain those temps but I was hoping for more; a little disappointed. I'm using the pre-applied thermal compound though I do have some MX-4 available; I may try that. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

3 out of 5 eggsWorks well, setup could be better

Pros: In choosing parts for my first build I decided to go with an AIO water cooler because I wanted extremely good temp control for my processor. The cooler works extremely well, keeping my stock speed i7 4770k at ~25-30C Idle and ~55-60C under load. Once you've set it up, no need to worry about it. I also replaced the included fans with some Corsair SP120s for high static pressure.

Cons: The instructions that come with the cooler are extremely obscure, much of it has to be figured out from the images they provide rather than the written instructions. My main issue with setting it up was getting the backplate onto my motherboard, and then attempting to fit the waterblock itself into the locking mechanism without it constantly coming undone as you attempt to screw it in (The H100i setup is much simpler). I originally had a faulty processor so I had to take off the locking bracket twice, and in doing so the backplate screws became stripped, so now I am unsure if I can even take the bracket off again safely (or put it back on for that matter). The software that comes included with this works fine, but has an odd interface, and if you accidentally uninstall it or lose the install disc, it is very difficult to find online (I was unable to find it on Thermaltake's website). All in all, unless Thermaltake makes the process of securing the water block onto the processor like Corsair has, I will probably be getting a Corsair cooler in my next build a few years from now.

Other Thoughts: Good cooler, if you're willing to put up with some annoying installation issues and obscure instructions.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
Customer Service is always available to help with any installation issues you may have. Your suggestions regarding the installation process have also been noted. The Water 3.0 Extreme driver and software can also be downloaded through Thermaltake’s website under Support.

5 out of 5 eggsKeeps things cool

Pros: - Idle temps are much cooler than my previous air cooled setup ~17C compared to ~25C
- Load temps have yet to exceed 32C
- Very quiet using just the 2 fans it comes with
- Easy to install

Cons: - Fan control software is horrible

Other Thoughts: For the first week I had it I had only the fans that came with it pushing air through the radiator. During that time I couldn't even tell my computer was on without looking at it. Recently switched to a larger case (Corsair 760T) and I set up a 4 fan push/pull which runs very loudly, but I don't mind.

3 out of 5 eggsNOT 1150

Pros: Great for my AMD A-10 works amazing.

Cons: Do not for the love of everything you hold dear buy this for a 1150, just don't

Other Thoughts: Giving it 3 stars for it does work for AMD builds and does a really good job. And the software they give you meh and not downloadable off their site as far as I could tell. No software either for Linux based OS.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very great cooling.
Price isn't outrageous.
Larger surface area of the radiator allows for better heat dissipation.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Running with with the AMD FX-8320 overclocked to 4.55 ghz. Thermal margin for idle is 50-45 C and under extreme load (IBT testing) doesn't go under 15 C even with a vent blowing hot air near intake fans. After load is gone the thing blows away the heat like a champ. As I have put my hand right above the exhaust and felt it amazingly quickly go from feeling warm to cold (span of about 30 seconds).

I did replace the stock fans with Rosewill RFA 120-BL fans (same RPM range with lower CFM but with blue LED's because hey I am OCD about this). So that being said I am sure the heat dissipation and temp would be better had I left the stock fans in (higher CFM meaning better air flow).

Case is the Thermaltake Level 10 GT which is great with space in allowing this to be placed as exhaust at the top with that huge 200 mm side panel intake fan keeping cool air flowing into the system.

4 out of 5 eggsWater 3.0 Extreme

Pros: Setup is ready to be installed and turned on out of the box.
Has fairly quiet fans, though NOT SILENT.
240mm radiator.

Cons: Not as cool as I would've expected, though cooler than most air setups can achieve.
Fans are always audible, even @ 10-20%. Not loud enough to really stand out but NOT SILENT.

Other Thoughts: Keeping an FX-8350 @ 4.83GHz idling between 25-35°C and with graphic & cpu intensive games running it hits around 50-55°C.
Not much different temps than the Cooler Master 212 it replaced but we have gone 400MHz higher clock speed.
Expected lower temps but at this speed I won't complain. Could turn it down to around 4GHz and be super-cooled. Or go to 5GHz+ and add a few more degrees...
