5 out of 5 eggsGrommets. I love grommets.

Pros: Long fan cable, convenient dust filter, and grommets.

Cons: Needs to also have an otherwise identical 3x5.25 bay version.

Other Thoughts: Let me tell you about rubber grommets. This thing has them and I love it for it. I've had several of these HDD cooling units over the years, and one thing a lot of them fail at is having the fan bolted right to the drive rails. Vibration from the fans gets transmitted right into the drives and causes performance and longevity issues. I've watched a hard drive diagnostic program quintuple in speed from glacial to normal just by unplugging the fan on some units, making me wonder how many hard drives got shaken into an early grave.

But not this one. The vibration-dampening grommets were a good sign to start, but when I did my impromptu fan test... no change at all. Performance with and without the fan spinning were basically identical. The drives seem to be, as far as I can tell with my crude consumer-end equipment and skills, completely isolated from the vibrations.

My only regret is that I got sidetracked for long enough that when I came back here to write the review and buy a few more, it was out of stock.

5 out of 5 eggsNice little fan!

Pros: I purchased this unit for my home server computer which is in a horrible flimsy case. I wanted it to keep it cool (has no front air vent) and also protect my hard drives from motion. I've had it installed for over a year, and it's been nothing but awesome. I don't even use the normal hard drive slots and have thought about purchasing a second one for my gaming computer, just for the fact at how well the unit keeps the hard drives safe, cool, and quiet.

Cons: My case is a little small, so i have to install the hard drives upside down so the cables won't hit my RAM. Not a big problem, certainly one that isn't an issue in bigger, normal sized cases. As some other people said, it can fit 2 hard drives easy, but with 3 it has no gap for the air to pass through.

Other Thoughts: The fan's front grill gets dusty as well as the filter. I usually just wipe it down, since i'm too lazy to clean the filter inside regularly. But that just means the filter is working at keeping the dust out of my computer.

5 out of 5 eggsdoes wat its designed for.

Pros: holds three 3.5" hdd
fan
comes with all screws to mount in 5.25" bays
fan filter pad
front cover opens to check dust filter

Cons: not really a con, but if you place 3 3.5" hdds in there the fan will not really push air past them cause there is only like 1/16" of space between them.
sometimes fan does not start, so you have to open the front cover and give it a push to get it spinning.

Other Thoughts: i recommend only using 2 hdds mounted in it.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fits into two drive bays as advertised, holds hard drives as advertised. Construction seems fairly solid.

Cons: Difficult to slide back out once it's in. Doesn't fit in my TJ08-E's adjacent drive bays perfectly; instead, it's noticeably recessed, with the mismatch being most pronounced at the top.

Other Thoughts: I bought this so I could make use of my untouched drive bays while clearing out some space in the rest of the case; on a basic level, this does just that. However, the slightly-off placement of holes for screwing it in (which causes the need for it to be recessed) is a turnoff, as well as the lack of a way to secure the top with the holes in the uppermost drive bay (something I'd imagine would help in keeping the top of this item from leaning back considerably more than the bottom).

I immediately disregarded the included fan in favour of a MASSCOOL 80mm Case Cooling Fan; therefore, I cannot comment on the airflow the default setup provides/the amount of noise it makes. I may swap back to the stock fan in the future, however, as the MASSCOOL fan is a bit noisy for my tastes.

5 out of 5 eggsExactly what I needed

Pros: Reasonable cost.
Installed easily. Simple design exactly as pictured, mounts in the lower of the two 5.25" bays it takes up.
Filtered fan keeps air moving past the HDDs and connects via a molex or a SATA power connector.

Cons: The spongy filter is thick, perhaps a bit too thick, as it does leave me questioning how much air the 80mm fan is actually able to pull through it. Wouldn't knock off an egg for it though as I've no way to tell. Still, I would have rather seen a fine mesh screen in front of the fan like most other computer case filters are made of.

Other Thoughts: I needed to add some additional HDD space in my case and settled on this Vantec two-5.25"-bay-to-three-3.5"-HDD-bay cage.

I had first compared it alongside many other similar cages, many hot swappable and whatnot, but the reviews on many of those left me wondering about the reliability/connectivity of hot swappable backplanes and whether the convenience is actually worth the added cost, and in the end decided to go with this much more affordable solution.

Currently have only one 2TB HDD mounted in it. I've ordered a SATA controller card and a molex-to-SATA power adapter. Once I have those I plan to load this thing up with two more HDDs.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat... Almost...

Pros: Purchased product to hold raid-0 hard drive set in my gaming system. It runs cool and quiet as designed. Has a great price.

Cons: ITEM IS NOT AS SHOWN. It does not have the rear, top mounting holes and my case only has holes for top mounting points. Installation required mounting it shifted up in bay. After install I could not replace front face plates for other bays and now am living with several openings in the front of my case.

Other Thoughts: If It could be installed correctly, I would have given it 5 eggs.
