5 out of 5 eggsGreat passive heat sink!

Pros: This is a great passive heat sink, but if you need forced convection you should try taking the the R16 fan and putting it on top of this R15 heat sink. I've built many systems for the military and this combo is awesome when you only have about 1U of clearance!

Cons: None. It's a block of Copper.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic 1U heatsink

Pros: Great build quality, easy installation and fantastic cooling capacity. For reference, in a 1U supermicro chassis with dual E5-2620 (6C@2GHz) CPUs idle at 30C and top out at 42C under 100% load (measured ambient 13C- 46% humidity).

Cons: kind of pricey for a server heatsink but especially with the higher load E5 xeons it's the best option available as far as passive heatsinks go.

Other Thoughts: I have 5 sets of these running in my farm for the past 8 months and they are fantastic. To me, they are worth the extra cost for the peace of mind. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: With a dedicated fan duct circulating 75cfm @ 18 db it is keeping 170 watt load at mean 25 celcius (77F) with ambient mean 22.22 celcius (72F). I purchased 2 of these and have been testing both before integrating into workstation. Both perform roughly the same. With proper duct work and a descent knowledge of how to circulate air throughout a server room/workstation case, this will easiy outlast many, many, many cycles of hardware exchange.

Cons: Would like to see it in the $25.00 price range

Other Thoughts: Please do not leave bad review when you do not understand the meaning of "passive server heatsink"

2 out of 5 eggsPassive didn't do the job for my application

Pros: Minimal footprint and the easiest install possible. Chose this because I needed something that would fit a dual processor motherboard and also not stick out 4 inches from the motherboard.

Cons: It just didn't do the job. Probably my fault for choosing passive (I had no experience with passive heatsinks). I have a pretty intense application (dual 6 core procs running at 100% often) and my system would maintain 80-90C (didn't run it like this for long). I was using CHENBRO SR20969-CO case and bought an additional fan for an open space.

Other Thoughts: With the case open and a large fan aimed at the motherboard this did the job. For lower intensity applications or colder rooms with higher airflow cases this might be a great product.
