Use a short loop
- Pros: Quiet, consistant operation.
- Cons: The pump is very small, probably the smallest marine pump that can be bought.
- Other Thoughts: Use as short of a loop as you can get away with. I don't recommend more than 2 blocks for this unit. The 3/8 inch inner diameter tubing is fine, going to 1/2 inch isn't going to do any good because of the type of connectors this thing uses.
To get the air bled out of the system, try getting the tubing and Reserator base level with the water blocks in the computer and tilt the Reserator way over on it's side. What you are trying to do is minimize the vertical (head space) distance the pump has to push the liquid. You may also have to lift, tilt, twirl and otherwise spin the computer with the pump running to get the air bubbles out of the blocks.
Very good and efficient concept
- Pros: simplistic... runs silent and keeps the chips cool. Zalman customer service is really considerate and polite. just like you would expect a great professional business to be.
- Cons: 1) not the cheapest on the market. it's worth it, though, but you have to be willing to pay for it's true value.
2) internal pump too weak for just about anything. requires an external pump before too long so you may as well buy it with the unit and install it at the same time.
3) flow indicator is connected to an alarm that will shut the system down and sound an alarm when there is lack of flow for a few seconds. this, combined with a faulty flow indicator, can be quite frustrating.
- Other Thoughts: I called Zalman about the indicator issue and they were really great. I had several options but to be honest the best option for me was to repair it myself with a replacement indicator form them. however, there is an easier remedy: while using the external pump, you can simply unplug the two power cords coming out of the unit (one goes to a wall outlet and the other goes inside your computer). just leave your external pump plugged in to your computer and all should run just fine. you will not have any way to tell if your flow is getting constricted but if you installed your hose properly you shouldn't need one anyway. after all, not many of these types of units have flow indicators anyway, right?
i even found that my temps got slightly cooler when i unplugged everything except my external pump.
Weak pump
- Pros: The radiator does an excellent job of dissipating the heat. Quick-fit connections are handy.
- Cons: Weak pump. After about 8 months of continuous operation the pump can no longer push the water through the system, even after cleaning out all the residue. Had to install an additional external pump.
