The Zalman 9700 CPU cooler offers high-performance cooling in a unique design. The heatsink and fin assembly are made from 100 percent copper for improved heat dissipation. The base is built of both copper and aluminum, keeping the overall weight of the unit down while providing optimal heat transfer to the triple set of copper pipes. The curved heat-pipe design allows them to draw twice the amount of heat away from the processor.

At the center of the aerodynamically optimized tunnel created by the fins is a 110mm, blue LED fan. Included is the company's Fan Mate 2 fan-speed controller. In Silent mode the fan spins at 1,250rpm and creates 19dBA of noise, but when you need extra cooling for demanding tasks you can shift it up to 2,800rpm to quickly force heat away from your CPU and other system components.

The 9700 is compatible with both Intel's LGA 775/1155/1156 and AMD’s Socket AM3/AM2+/AM2/754/939/940 platforms. All the clips and backplates are included so there's nothing else to buy to get the unit attached to your motherboard in minutes. A tube of Zalman's own thermal grease is bundled in as well.

  • newegg Unique Heatpipe Design Three innovative and curved heatpipes provide a heat transfer capacity matching that of six heatpipes designs for maximum performance.
  • newegg Aerodynamically Optimized Heatsink Layout and Ultra-Slim Fins A 100% copper heatsink with an aerodynamically optimized "tunnel" design and 0.2mm ultra-slim fins maximize heatsink efficiency with minimal weight and smoother airflow for optimum cooling.
  • newegg Adjustable Fan Speed Controller The bundled adjustable fan speed controller (Fan Mate 2) enables manual fan speed adjustment ranging from 1,250rpm to 2,800rpm and provides a silent mode and low-noise mode for an optimum balance between silence and performance.
  • newegg Blue LED Lighting The ultra-quiet 110mm fan produces brilliant illumination during operation for eye-catching fun.
  • newegg Universal Socket Compatibility As an all-in-one solution for PC systems, the ZALMAN CNPS9700 LED features broad compatibility with all AMD Socket AM3/AM2+/AM2/754/939/940 and Intel LGA 775/1155/1156 platforms.

5 out of 5 eggsBig cooler

Pros: Really lowers cpu temps, looks cool

Cons: 3 pin connector

Other Thoughts: Installed in Rosewill Blackhawk case, with room to spare,
will mount vert or horiz, tried both, horz mount seems to run cooler, less noise also, fit mobo no problem, 8320 am3+, lowered temps 15f , will see final temps when cpu paste burns in. did not use speed control, did use supplied paste.

5 out of 5 eggsThis is so worth it!

Pros: The cooling, It is superb! I have owned this for 7 years and 4 months. It has never let me down. This is the second machine its been in. Original Fan. Its all COPPER!

Cons: The mounting for AMD is a bit tricky if you don't figure it out right away. It had me stumped for about 10 seconds. The bracket goes in a certain way. Directions did help. This item is HUGE. I find that more of a pro than a con though. the fan LEDs are not as bright after 7 years... Yeah...

Other Thoughts: When this thing arrives and you open your newegg box and see it for the first time. You will be amazed at how big it is. You will not feel like you bought some measly Hyper 212. You bought the cooling beast.

1 out of 5 eggsone out of two is bad

Pros: ordered two from the egg. Rebate on one...
First one worked great, dropped loaded cpu temp 30 degrees better than stock intel fan/sink.

Cons: As for the second unit the fan was off-center. Blades were hitting the cooling fins making an unbearable noise....vibration transfer to mobo, cpu, UGH!
Package was totally undamaged and none of the fins were bent.
It appears the fan mounting bracket is for another model...

Other Thoughts: I hate returns. It takes a while to get a label and two weeks later it arrives...
So I improvised with trusty prybar and needle nose pliers. It no longer hits the fins. not perfectly centered and cpu is 30 degrees cooler under load.
First time buying Zalmann, last time buying Zalmann. Only get one chance to make a first impression.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far, so good...

Pros: -Fast and easy setup.

-I really like the speed adjuster.

-Does it's job, Keeps CPU cool.

Cons: -Kinda big, had to readjust my wiring.

-Very loud when on full speed, but it would rarely be up that high for me anyways.

5 out of 5 eggsIt works!

Pros: It's supposed to cool things down - and boy does it do that. (Coming from a stock cooler will do that to you).

Went from temps of 40C-60C (around 27C idle) on a FX-6300 (stock cooler) with an OPEN CASE down to 16C idle and 30C-40C under load with the case closed. Does exactly what it said it would do :)

Cons: The manual was small font/picture wise, so figuring out where the AMD bracket was supposed to fit through was a bit of a trial and error process. Not near enough to knock off an egg.

Other Thoughts: This thing is big. Not 120mm big, but the fins add some serious dimensions on it. It was a bit hard to install only because I wasn't going to take the board out and recable. If you're gonna put this baby in, i HIGHLY recommend taking the board out of the case. I was swearing for a good 30 minutes, cursing my big hands.

Read some reviews that occasionally the fins were bent and obstructed the fan, not the case here.

Also some reviews said that the fins had the propensity to slice your fingers - like i said I've got big, clumsy hands and I came out intact.

3 out of 5 eggsNot so bad I suppose....

Pros: The bracket it self is made from good material. At least at idle the fan is very silent.

Cons: However, the cpu bracket screws are too short. I needed to use thread lock to keep them in place, before one kept coming out.The fan barring design is some what cheat, not as silent as I hoped, lots of visible vibration. The fan controller is useless. Make sure MB has 3 pin cpu fan connector, if you ditch the useless fan controller, you have no 4 pin connection from the cooler.

Other Thoughts: Over all design is not bad. Over all you get what you pay for and it's border line worth the money. Maybe I just got a faulty one.... not time to exchange at the moment.

3 out of 5 eggsOk but don't waste your money on it

Pros: It looks good in the case and it does a good job of keeping my FX-9590 cool

Cons: Loud. I dont know where they got 35 db on that fan but im showing 55 at 80-100% rpm from 3 feet away from my case closed.
Also its a lot bigger than I thought. which is kinda a Pro too.. and it does look good in the case.

Other Thoughts: For the money I could have gotten a nice all in one water cooling system. Or possibly 20 more and gotten a 120m at the time. I still may but going to let this go for awhile as it does look good in the case.. and the water coolers.. not so much.

Unless you are wanting one for the looks.. go with an all in one water cooling system. With prices on them now and the fact they are maint free I wish i would have gone that direction instead.

2 out of 5 eggsNoisey but good looking

Pros: Arrived promptly and installed easily once I found my tube of Arctic Silver. It does come with a container of heat transfer compound (ZM-STG1) but the brush (good idea) was too short to make any contact with what was left in the container.
I have to assume it dried up while on the shelf.

Cons: Instructions not great on detail.
The Fan RPM Control with Fan Mate 2 is waste of time and money. I ended up removing it as it was just too noisey at all but one setting. I ended up plugging the fan into the CPU2 socket and letting the BIOS control the fan. So far so good Zalman should have a PWM fan on all their CPU fans.

Other Thoughts: I understand there is a way to modify the 3 pin MB connector via a transistor, a couple of resistors and a new 4 pin connector to get back my PWM.
