Still good almost two years and 2 cards later
- Pros: This thing is still great. I previously had it running on my XFX 8600GT XXX which it worked beautifully on. I have long since upgraded to an XFX 9800GT which had a grossly ineffective and loud fan with a VERY heavy heatsink. This cooler fit fine and has dropped idle temps from around 55C down to ~45C. Under load it never goes above 60C, a big improvement over the stock cooler which shot up to above 80C at times when under load.
- Cons: None. Still a great cooler.
- Other Thoughts: If you are installing this cooler on any card with a back or spine/edge brace then you must remove the brace before installation and then reinstall it. This is not difficult in any way, but just a little FYI to keep anyone from being confused and/or breaking anything.
XFX 8600gt XXX
- Pros: Easy install, high quality parts, heatsink wraps over the top and back of the card so it won't take up a slot, color almost matches my blue G-Skill ram, and of course silent. Took about 20 minutes start to finish to install. They give you plenty of thermal paste but I used whatever Artic Silver 5 I had lying around after my last build. You also get matching blue low profile ram sinks too which stuck on easily and will not budge.
- Cons: The plastic washers are a little wide so they sit on top of some of the transistors on the back of my card. I haven't had any issues with it though.
- Other Thoughts: I had one of those half-moon zalman fans come stock on the card but it was getting a little loud after 2 years. Temps were ~45C with the fan and with the new silent heatsink they only went up to 50C idle. That's pretty good considering this card is 80nm and heavily overclocked from the factory. I have yet to see load temps go over 62C. Well worth the money.
Cools HD 4830 in mATX case
- Pros: Easy to assemble. Not very large. Easily fits in small mATX case. As good or better than stock Sapphire HSF, yet fanless! Quiet. Since majority of heatsink is above card, does not use up slot lower than vga card.
- Cons: Must have at least a little bit of case air flow when used with the HD 4830 and heavy 3D gaming
- Other Thoughts: Used as part of gaming HTPC in HOT Florida home, with ambient room temperature around 80F, and corner that HTPC resides in is around 85F. Tested with all versions of 3dmark for a few hours, and never got close to being too hot. CPU HSF used is SCYTHE|SCSK-1100. Power supply fan replaced with 120mm Antec 3 speed at low. Only case fan is generic slow 120mm sucking from bottom case front. Totally silent HTPC results.

Zalman's patented VFP (Variable Fin Profile) Fin Design maximizes cooling efficiency and dissipation surface area for excellent performance. Fanless VNF100 does not emit any noise and can be used semi-permanently. Three high performance heatpipes provide maximized heat transfer. Thin aluminum fins (0.4mm) provide minimized heatsink weight, and prevents excessive force on the VGA card. The heatsink positioned above the VGA card optimizes cooling efficiency and allows compatibility with SLI and CrossFire setups. VGA RAM Heatsninks allow the cooling of VGA RAM. Improved installation structure provides easy installation and broad compatibility. |
