ZALMAN VF1000 2 Ball VGA Cooler

Zalman bills itself as the "quiet cooling solution" and they have a reputation for easy to use, reliable products. They also have a reputation for creating products that look as good as they run. A quiet, downward blowing 80mm ball bearing fan sits at the heart of an array of pure copper thin fins.

While it operates at a low 28 dBA in its normal 2500 RPM setting, its Silent Mode drops it nearly 50% to 18 dBA as well as eliminating vibration. With its unrestricted flow, it cools not only the VGA chipset and RAM, but the other VGA components.

The LED's within the fan reflecting off the copper surfaces makes the cooler look like an inferno as it draws damaging heat away from the VGA card by the pure copper base of the heatsink and it is transferred up into the orderly arrays of copper thin fins for dissipation.

  • newegg VFP Technology Armed with the VFP (Variable Fin Profile) technology, the Zalman VF1000 VGA cooler installs its fan inside the heatsink for maximizing dissipation surface area and cooling efficiency for your VGA card.
  • newegg Excellent Cooling Performance The Zalman VF1000 VGA cooler features 4 high performance heatpipes and pure copper high-density fins, plus an 80mm dual-ball bearing LED fan for premium heat dissipation of your VGA card.
  • newegg Included Fan Controller The Zalman VF1000 VGA cooler offers you a fan controller to adjust fan speed for controlling noise and fan speed according to the working condition of the VGA card.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Over a year later its still running, and my card has never over heated.

Cons: Required some electrical rigging to get it to work in my system.

Other Thoughts: It would be nice if it had came with an adapter for 3 to 4 pin power.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Better temps than stock 8800 cooler, all copper design, easy install

Cons: My 8800 has 12 RAM chips and I only got 8 heatsinks in the box.

Other Thoughts: Great cooler but Zalman needs to consider adding more RAM sinks and VRM sinks, as I received only 8 RAM sinks and 0 VRM sinks.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice, Very quiet.

Pros: Very nice cooler. It has brought new life to my Sapphire Radeon 4890. Idle temp is around 47c overclocked 961/1150 and hits the low 70's Celsius under load. I did not use the included ramsinks, I ordered some pure copper ramsinks from another vender. Looks good with the blue led.

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: I did not use the included TIM (Thermal Interface Material) I opted to use some AC5 but i'm sure it would be fine either way. I had to use another aftermarket cooler to keep my VRM's cool. Not sure If I could go without it or not, since I was planning on overclocking I didn't take any chances.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat GPU Cooler

Pros: Installed on my 5870 as a replacement for the stock cooler (fan was dying). Install was straight forward, no issues, cleaned stock thermal compound off of the GPU and used artic 5 for the new application. Works great no problems.

Cons: Not really thrilled about the fan controller, I just plugged it into the MOBO fan connector.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat cooler!

Pros: Paired with Arctic Silver, this brought my temperatures from 107C down to 48C on load on my 8800GT (the stock cooler just didn't cut it anymore). I went from 66C on idle down to 40! Not the best temperatures in the world, but considering what I had before to what I've got now, I can't complain at all.

Cons: That it's too pricey on Newegg!

Does turn the video card into a double slot card, but for the benefits (and I don't SLI anyway), it didn't bother me at all. The thermal tape on the heatsinks looked flimsy, so I just tore those off (I was concerned by how easily it was to remove them), cleaned them up and then use an artic silver adhesive to attach it to the card.

Other Thoughts: I adore Zalman products, so one large part of purchasing this cooler was the built up trust I've had in the CNPS9500A cooler.

5 out of 5 eggsAwsome Cooler

Pros: All stock temps cut by 50% on my CrossfireX dual HIS 4890 turbos idles about 34C and max about 52C some newer titles make it hit 61C at max settings its better that 85 to 90C with stock cooling

Cons: big huge better have a big tower with well spaced PCI-E slots to run more than 2 card with this cooler

Other Thoughts: Zalman love your cooling solutions try making this cooler exhaust heat out the back of the tower rather than inside the case Thnx for inexspensive and effectively simple cooling solutions keep up the good work

4 out of 5 eggssimply awesome

Pros: This is a replacement for my stock MSI GTS 250 cooling which was strictly an aluminum heatsink with 2 fans (one of which has failed after around a year and a half). absolutely love this heatsink. i love the blue led as it matches my case fans precisely and does not create a strange glow like some of these reviews claim (i am not calling you liars!). keeps idle temps at 33-34 C and load temps seem to peak at around 50-54 C. wow.

Cons: i have only been using it for a few days now but none thusfar

Other Thoughts: a perfect solution to overheating issues and failed oem hardware. i recommend this product wholly.

5 out of 5 eggsA MUST HAVE FOR GAMERS!!!

Pros: Have an Asus hd 4850. Stock fan and cooler ran at 55 decrees C on idle, and while playing SCII would jump to 80's. Installed this fan and heatsink with some Artic Silver 5 along with the memory heatsinks that come with it, and now idles at low 30's and on load won't go past 55 degrees.

Decided to try my luck and overclock using the AMD Control Center. The Auto-Tune set me at 790mhz core up from 680mhz, and 1180 mhz ram up from 1050 mhz.

At those speeds however game was unstable. Reduced to 750Mhz Core, and 1150Mhz ram, and runs beautifully. With fan at 100%, temps remain at 30 degrees on idle, and 55 on load while running deus ex on high settings.

Cons: Size might be an issue if you have a small case. So check dimensions. Not an issue for me though so maybe shouldn't say a con.

Other Thoughts: Yes there might be a noise difference between running fan at low compared to max, but my tower is below my desk, so i don't notice it unless i'm trying to hear a pin drop.

For the not so techy savy. . . READ INSTRUCTIONS AND USE ARTIC SILVER when installing. Promise you won't regret it.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Bought this for my 8800GT. Fits great. Kept the heat VERY COOL.

Cons: Pretty much none.
Dust get stuck in the heatsink and took more effort than usual to clean, but I do have a very dusty room.

Other Thoughts: LED didnt go with the color of the heatsink lol
Overall I am VERY happy with the purchase. Worth every penny.
