Zalman bills itself as the "quiet cooling solution" and they have a reputation for easy to use, reliable products. They also have a reputation for creating products that look as good as they run. A quiet, downward blowing 80mm ball bearing fan sits at the heart of an array of pure copper thin fins.
While it operates at a low 28 dBA in its normal 2500 RPM setting, its Silent Mode drops it nearly 50% to 18 dBA as well as eliminating vibration. With its unrestricted flow, it cools not only the VGA chipset and RAM, but the other VGA components.
The LED's within the fan reflecting off the copper surfaces makes the cooler look like an inferno as it draws damaging heat away from the VGA card by the pure copper base of the heatsink and it is transferred up into the orderly arrays of copper thin fins for dissipation.

ATI 3870
- Pros: Big noise reduction, this thing on max sounds quieter than the stock cooler on 50%. I cant hear it at all on its lower dial settings in my Antec 900 case with the case fans all on low. Copper performs and looks great, but sorry Zalman I peeled the logo sticker off the fan and discovered two powerful LEDs pointing to the bottom of my case (Big bonus light). I did a noise/heat test for people that want to know how much better this cools based on the same noise level as the stock cooler. Core temp idol/load with inaudible 40% stock fan speed 35c/79c compared to 31c/48c on lowest setting of the Zalman. (-31c on lower fan speed (WOW)) With
both fans cranked up the difference in temp closed.
- Cons: (NONE) >>> Zalman short changed themselves on the specks its a 4 ball fan not a 2 ball. (Very Quiet)
- Other Thoughts: Used arctic silver ceramique on the core. I ran the stock cooler for a few months and it was clogged with dust. The plastic enclosed Heat sinks collect dust inside them like a vacuum cleaner bag. My system, Antec 900, Ultra X3 1KW, Asus P5E board, Reaper X 2Gx2 6400, E6850 3.0Ghz, MSI HD3870.
Amazing Cooling Performance for Radeon 4850, Easy Installation
- Pros: This cooler brought the temps on my Radeon HD 4850 from 50C/85C idle/load down to 26C/42C. A DRASTIC improvement. And it's also worth mentioning that 42C load is with my card being overclocked as much as its power draw will allow to 690core/1138mem. I could not be more impressed by the performance, and the ease of installation as well.
- Cons: None that I'm aware of.
- Other Thoughts: If you buy a $200+ video card, this cooler will definitely increase your overclocking headroom and protect your investment. It will do it at a price you can afford, and at a noise level that is inaudible.

- Pros: Easy enough install. Chicks dig it when you take things apart and still work when you put them back together.
- Cons: Does not plug into the 4 pin small fan plug on the card (8800GT) so you can't vary the fan speed from the NVIDIA control panel, so i just leave it on 100% with the fan mate.
- Other Thoughts: <mega>Overclocked 8800GT does not even hit 50degrees celcius with this thing on. Idle temps are low. I have mass effect 2 running in the background and its at 40 degrees C.

- Pros: the temps on my 9800GTX+ where hitting 76c with this thing they hit 43c!!! runs at 36c idle
- Cons: none
- Other Thoughts: the hardest part was getting off the stock heat sink

I was expecting a drop in temp, but this thing goes above and beyond. Crysis maxed out with highest resolution, after hours of gameplay shows the card running a temp of 57c-60c (with the case closed).
Also, the fan is very quiet. A huge perk for some. I never really cared all that much, but it makes a noticable difference.
The install was unbelievably easy. Took me all of about 10 minutes, and the instructions were easy to read "lego-layout" : )
- Cons: I don't understand why aftermarket vga cooler companies don't just build a 4-pin fan controller cable so can utilize the the display driver instead of a cumbersome unit that floats around the inside of the case. (Seriously I unplugged it. You don't really need it anyway).
- Other Thoughts: Overall its a great buy (Especially if you bought the Xfx Radeon 4870, with the old heatsink/fan assembly : P ). One note to people; this will bring your ambient temps up.
