Long popular for the design and engineering of their products, Zalman continues to deliver on their tradition by producing quality products backed with excellent service. The CNPS9900LED goes a step further by looking good as it cools your AMD or Intel processor.

The efficient dual copper heatsink design combines a 3-pipe system that effortlessly whisks heat away with the help of the 120mm blue LED fan’s blades and 2 ball bearings. Noise level can be lessened automatically by using the integrated PWM functionality which lets the BIOS monitor fan performance and thermal need and adjust the fan's speed accordingly.

The CNPS9900LED is compatible with all single- and multi-core CPUs for Intel's Socket 775/1156/1366 and AMD’s Socket AM3/AM2+/AM2/754/939/940. All the clips and backplates are included so there's nothing else to buy to get the unit attached to your motherboard in minutes.

  • newegg Pure Copper Heatsink Base and Fins A pure copper base and circular heatsink formed by radially aligned ultra-thin (0.2mm) copper fins maximize heat dissipation surface area for excellent cooling performance.
  • newegg High-efficient Heatpipe Design The innovative heatpipe design delivers a heat transfer capacity equivalent to 6 heatpipes with just 3.
  • newegg 120mm Cooling Fan with PWM Function The 120mm cooling fan with PWM function automatically adjusts speeds according to the CPU temperature for the optimum balance between cooling performance and noise level.
  • newegg Universal Socket Compatibility As an all-in-one solution for PC systems, the ZALMAN CNPS9900A LED features broad compatibility with all AMD socket AM2, 754, 939, 940 and Intel 775, 1156 and 1366 platforms.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Exceptional performance, amazing looks.

Cons: Somewhat tricky install, exceptional size to go with the performance.

Other Thoughts: Nothing bad enough to knock an egg off for, and dropped my idle temps over a 2 and a half year old stock AMD heatsink/fan by 20 degrees Celsius.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: I have used other large Zalman coolers in the past. This is exactly what I expected. Quality and reliability. These crush any stock cooler. i7 4790k is idle at 28 degrees in my new build.

Cons: Sharp!! Watch yourself on install. I cut both of my hands on this thing. The copper blades are sharp.

Other Thoughts: I would use this again and I would tell others to use it as well

1 out of 5 eggsdoes not fit 1150

Pros: Looked good

Cons: It was supposed to support the 1150 but the brackets supplied do not come down enough to attach to the motherboard. I looked at some of the pictures from reviews of other products and they seem to be using brackets where the ends bent down more. I do have have tools to bend the brackets myself so will be putting in a different cooler.

Other Thoughts: Looked to be a great product except that it would not mount on my system.

3 out of 5 eggsExcellent cooling until it hummed/buzzed 3 days later

Pros: Excellent cooling area, quiet(until 3 days later). Clocking the i7 4790k to 4.7 Ghz and running games, kept it down around 40-50C. Very exponential cooling power. Controllable speed

Cons: This may just be a defunct cooler out of the whole lot. after 3 days, a buzz noise between 1400 rpm and 1600 rpm emitted. Since the fan constantly is running around this area, its rather quite annoying. Sounds like a bad bearing or vibration vibrating something on the fan,. sounds RPM dependent(possible bearing).

Other than that, it fit tight over where my RAM sticks are, and barely fit in my case. (mid tower) I'd suggest using a full tower for this sort of heatsink

Other Thoughts: other than that minor issue that is being RMA'd for, its a pretty solid heatsink for being an air selection over water cooling.

5 out of 5 eggsUPDATE

Pros: It's as big as it is popular and along with the copper they fill this thing with, you'll find that it's by FAR the most popular heatsink in a sub-water cooled environment. There are knock offs out there, but this is the original.

Cons: Originally, I had purchased this and gotten four brackets for attaching the unit to either a 1150 or AMD 3+ slot. Neither worked. Huge disappointment. HOWEVER, I emailed the company and they sent me four replacement brackets, which I received just today, about ten days after originally purchasing.

Other Thoughts: Final thought? There's a good reason why this is so popular. I saw real world losses in my total heat retained on chip after prolonged sessions. That's a really big deal and the effect is priceless. After receiving the bent clips in a second package directly from Zalman, everything fits and works perfectly. Would buy again. Infact, I am recommending this to a corporate client for an overheated server room filled with old machines and to be fixed on a budget. Nice work, guys.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Performing Cooler

Pros: Runs 18 degrees cooler than stock CPU cooler on PassMark tests.

It's a thing of Beauty once installed

Cons: Sharp fins, difficult to install.

Other Thoughts: Only a small amount of blood was spilled during the installation of this CPU Cooler. Very difficult angles to tighten the fasteners when Motherboard is in Case. Almost required 3 hands, one to hold the backing plate, one to push the cooler down, and one to engage and tighten the fasteners. Had to remove the double sticky tape from the backing plate before I was able to get fasteners started. Just an extra millimeter more length on the fasteners would help a lot. Even better would be if there was some way to adapt a bracket to use the factory attach brackets or at least the factory backing plate. Base-plate slid all over the place during installation, which is not the best for good even heat paste distribution.

Suggestion: While I was retrofitting this cooler into a completed build, it probably would have been easier to remove the motherboard from the case, install the cooler, and then re-install the motherboard in the case. Less blood would have been lost doing it this way, and you would be able to use the short end of the fastener wrench to work under the cooler fins to tighten things up, rather than using the long end and going in at an angle. You can not go straight down to the fasteners due to the fins being in the way.

All this said and done, once installed this cooler is a thing of beauty through the case window, but even more important, it runs significantly cooler than the factory cooler. Running an AMD 8 core (per my customer's request), and while AMD recommends 62C as a max CPU temp and best life if you can keep it below 55C, the CPU ran high 40's to low 50's in normal light use (I'm running 30C right now under light load with the Zalman). Running the PassMark 8.0 test the CPU spiked to 65C with the factory cooler, and it was doing a lot of thermal protection throttling. The same test with this Zalman cooler never got above 47C, even on CPU intensive tests. In spite of the Dire Warnings from AMD that your CPU warranty is void if you use anything other than the factory cooler, this CPU needs a better cooling solution, and this one works just fine.

1 out of 5 eggsMISSING PARTS

Pros: I'll update later if they fix the problem - otherwise I'm returning for a refund. Gross.

Cons: My brackets, which are essential to the installation process are not bent. As in, I half almost half an inch of space in between the bolts and the screws. No contact, no threading and INSTALLATION IS IMPOSSIBLE.

Other Thoughts: It took me over an hour and a half to pull everything apart, put it all together and in the FINAL step, the bolts are unable to be threaded. Amateur hour.

Refund, replace or send me the correct brackets overnight mail. Youtube is FILLED with comments about people in similar situations. I should have researched more before spending the money.

5 out of 5 eggsSecond Time Much Easier AMD Install

Pros: This thing really works. CPU Temp dropped 15 C after install. I decided to do this after I installed one on my son's MOBO ASUS (AMD Sabertooth AM3). He has an AMD 6-Core 1075T. I have the AMD 8-core with the same Sabertooth AMD MOBO. I have 32 GB of memory . He has 16. I had been getting quite a few BSODs, apparently these were due to overheating as I was able to observe CPU temp at over 60 degrees centigrade in one instance before it BSOD'ed.

Cons: The directios are not very clear. Also the screws look like they won't reach the base posts. This is an optical illusion. The thing comes together just fine.. The thing is admittedly large, and depending what is in your case could be a tight fit. In my case, my 3 fan Video card is m,ore of a pain. You need to completely disassemble your PC and turrn your MOBO over to assemble this thing.

Other Thoughts: Keep the plastic on until the last steps as you can get cut on the sharp copper edges of this unit.

5 out of 5 eggs5 yrs old & still performing well

Pros: Purchase this last Zalman 9900 cpu cooler in late 2009 and just had to update my 7/1/2009 review in the interest of info sharing with other pc enthusiasts. Until this month I had a total of 2 of these Zalmans but sold my oldest Zalman 9900 cpu cooler having upgraded to a refurbished Corsair H100i water cooling upgrade. I originally paid over $40 for the Zalman some 4+ years ago and sold it to a work associate who just wanted to mildly overclock his 4770k. Offered to let it go for $35 along the installation and he agreed. This was a "win-win" for all he was guaranteed a 4.2GHz o/c on his 4770k which I would guarantee and I would recoup $35 thereby lowering my out of pocket cost on the Corsair H100i to just $55. For those who are still on the fence about going with a air cooler you should seriously consider the Zalman products simply because the manufacturer supports all the sockets presently out there including the new Haswell-E's. Quality of Zalman coolers are top notch and the longevity of the ball bearing fans speak for themselves...4+ years and still going strong. All that's needed is the bi-annual cleaning with a good industrial air compressor. Just be sure and blow out both the video card fan, power supply fans and any dust bunnies you have accumulating with the mid or full tower case. Again, I avoid using toothbrush or any brush since it potentially introduces static which might occur. BTW, the bottled heat sink compound provided with the original Zalman 9900 cooler is among the best pastes out there. A few drops of rubbing alcohol (isopropol or grain alcohol ...whatever you having laying around) will remedy a infrequently used bottle of this paste). Should Intel come out with another never ending socket platform down the road a quick call to Zalman will get you a bracket kit to accommodate newer sockets down the road .... never ever had issues with Zalman support...top notch!

Cons: Zalman has both a aluminum and older copper finned cooler. I prefer Copper over aluminum .... why fix what isn't broken?. The Zalman 9900 has outgrown it's usefulness for aggressive overclocks but is still better than the stock Intel cooler

Other Thoughts: This cpu cooler plays nicely with Haswells for mild overclocks so if you have one of these legacy coolers think twice before you toss it out. It does help when dis-believers see a 5 year old air cooler happily chugging away overclocking a 1st gen Intel 4770k to the tune of 4.3GHz with no throttling whatsoever...YMMV!

5 out of 5 eggsFor the money very good

Pros: This is the third one of these I have bought. the reason being they do an excellent job for a non liquid cool solution. The truth be told, liquid cooling does work well but how many computers really need it. Probably not many. In any case, this keeps the my CPU in very cool with no problems.

Cons: The biggest con is you must be careful when handling this as the fins can be sharp. Take your time and everything will go together.
