The Zalman CNPS9900 MAX-B combines some of the most advanced technologies in the market used for CPU coolers to create powerful cooling performance. The CPU cooler utilizes composite heatpipe which is 50% more effective in transferring heat compared to ordinary heatpipes. Combined with a whisper-quiet 135 mm blue LED PWM fan positioned between two massive nickel plated pure copper heatsinks, the CNPS9900 MAX-B is more than enough to satisfy overclockers and users who are looking for ultra powerful cooling performance in silent operation.

  • newegg Powerful Cooling Performance [Qmax: 300W] Optimally designed pure copper fins effectively disperse heat away from the CPU via composite heatpipes, while the high capacity 135mm fan quickly cools the heatsink for stable operation of high performance CPUs.
  • newegg Ultra Quiet 135mm Blue/Red LED Fan An ultra quiet 135mm fan is incorporated for minimized noise while the blue LEDs heighten the cool aesthetics.
  • newegg Black-Pearl Nickel Plating The entire copper heatsink of CNPS9900 MAX-B is ‘Black-Pearl’ Nickel Plated for long-term corrosion resistance, while the deep ‘Black-Pearl’ tone along with the high intensity blue LEDs reinforce its powerful aesthetics.
  • newegg PWM Fan Speed Control The PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) fan automatically adjusts fan speed according to the CPU’s temperature, while the included Resistor Cable (RC7P) provides the option of reducing the input voltage for overall reduction of fan speed and noise.
  • newegg High Performance Super Thermal Grease ZM-STG2 The included all new high performance thermal grease ZM-STG2 maximizes heat transfer from the CPU to the base of CPU cooler for intensified cooling performance.
  • newegg Versatile Compatibility The Zalman CNPS9900 MAX-B accommodates a broad range of CPU sockets including Intel LGA1156 / 1366 / 775 and AMD AM3 / AM2+ / AM2.

3 out of 5 eggsBad first impression...

Pros: Great looking, decent reviews, fits Corsair Vengeance C70 case

Cons: Ridiculously difficult to mount, missing screw, not the greatest instructions

Other Thoughts: This is my first build and boy did I pick the wrong CPU cooler. It took quite a bit of force to get the way-too-short screws to reach just enough to secure this to my motherboard (ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0) on an AMD FX-8350 cpu. I visited Zalman's web site today for support and I was suprised to see the mounting bracket "legs" were much more bent on their installation video for an AM3+ than what I received:

Im not sure if I will try to bend the legs myself because this might reduce the reach and it wont match the holes in the MB. Maybe I will purchase longer screws if I can find the right ones somewhere. All in all, left me with a bad taste in my mouth for Zalman.

3 out of 5 eggsHuge

Pros: Does it's job. Pretty quiet.

Cons: Mounting this thing is very time intensive. The metal braces for the fan itself need tweaked as it sits between the heatsink fins a little wonky. The metal braces seem under built for their purpose as they were bent before I got it out of the box.

Other Thoughts: I'm ready to try a new maker of heatsinks after 11 years of Zalman in maybe 8 of my builds.

Pros: I purchased this item because I had a similar item that I bought and tested on another machine......worked fine. kept the cpu running cooler during intensive use.

Cons: Most ridiculously over-engineering mounting I've ever seen. On the previous buy on a just slightly smaller unit I had no problem mounting (FM2 Socket) clipped down, no problem.
On this one I literally had to disassemble the computer to remove the motherboard to mount.........AND THIS CASE was a FULL ATX designed with changing the cooler and Heatsink in mind. This was also an FM2 Socket..... I knocked off 2 eggs because a 5 min. installation took 2 hours.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate after 4 years!

Pros: Great cooling capability, has held up incredibly well over the years, looks fantastic, still works just as well as the day I bought it, keeps an FX-8350 at 35c in a 22c room at stock speeds during full-load stress testing.

Cons: The fan can be a little loud at higher RPMs, although it may just be because it's old. It's also pretty big, so it can be a pain to install depending on how much space you have to work with. The thermal compound that it ships with isn't that great either. I'd recommend AS 5.

Other Thoughts: I've been using this heatsink in my main computer since I bought it back in 2011 and I still couldn't be happier with it. To me it really says something about the quality of this product that I've either replaced or upgraded literally every other part of my PC aside from this in that amount of time. If you need better cooling I'd definitely recommend giving one of these a shot.

At the current price I've even been kicking around the idea of picking up an extra one, just in case. Seriously.

Great job Zalman!

4 out of 5 eggsRevisit 8 Core AMD Chips

Pros: Nice blue, silent series fan.

Cons: The AMD/AM3 bracket screws were not long enough. Just a few millimeters too short for the FX 8350 8 Core chip.

2 out of 5 eggsI wanted to rate this product higher, but...

Pros: Looks good.
Keeps the CPU cool.
Definitely a powerful fan to accompany a good heat sink design.
It works properly

Cons: I had the misfortune, like many other AMD owners, to receive an unfinished AMD bracket that made installation of the cooler a nightmare. I ended having to purchase longer screws and nuts from Lowe's to hold the CPU cooler to the motherboard after many disappointing hours of failed installation.

I wanted to give this product a higher rating because it would have been great if everything worked as it should. It's very unfortunate that I, as well as many other customers had to receive inadequate mounts for the AMD cpu.

Other Thoughts: Is very large, but with a large case, it isn't a problem.

4 out of 5 eggsbest looking performance cooler

Pros: •of all the top performance coolers, this is the best looking one, in my opinion
•not too huge, especially considering the cooling performance. I doubt that anyone will have GPU/RAM clearance issues with this

Cons: •fan is rather loud at medium to high speed - it is very noticeable with the current trend of bottom mounted PSUs. It is much less noticeable with a top mounted PSU, but still louder than other good alternatives.
•fan is not swappable
•mounting system isn't great. It uses double side tape to hold the back plate on until you install the HSF itself. The bolts can be difficult to get to and slightly strip when holding the tool at certain angles.

Other Thoughts: I can't really comment on the quality of the thermal compound, because I used a compound from another manufacturer.

4 out of 5 eggsCools I7 4930k nicely watch out with screws

Pros: Kept an I7 3820 cool in the low 80s and after upgrading to a I7 4930k temps average in the high 80s. Does a good job with keeping processor cool under normal loads. Loading up a Server 2008 R2 VM and a Win 10 Technical Preview VM during review and temp only rose a few degrees. Never went above 111 degrees.

Cons: With the size of the fan the screws can easily get stripped. Zalman customer service.

Other Thoughts: When upgrading the processor I stripped the screws trying to remove the fan. Current one was out of warranty since I had bought it in February 2012. Ordered a new one while in the mean time I would reach out to Zalman to get or purchase some replacement screws.

Going to use the old CPU to build a server so I could still use the fan. Response took about 1-2 weeks and I got a Paypal invoice. I expected that and it was reasonable for a new kit. Paid invoice and never received item. After a couple of attempts to reach out to Zalman on the status on the order and with no response I submitted a dispute with Paypal.

So if you need to upgrade the CPU be careful, take it slow and avoid stripping the screws. If you have to deal with Zalman customer service hopefully it will go smoother for you.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat cooler

Pros: Installation took time , but I did it on new build and MOBO was outside the case and I had no big issues.

EXCEPT one: Manual says install it with thin heat-sink facing rear fan, BUT IT IS WRONG, it should be vice versa. So I had to repeat installation again because the air was blowing towards front. So I am taking one egg for it.
Otherwise it runs great on i7 4790K with average temperature 30 C- 33 C on Asus Sabertooth Z97 MOBO

Cons: Mistake in manual

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: - Quieter than most coolers I've used
- High quality
- 135mm fan
- Good airflow
- Does not block memory slots

Cons: - Very hard to install
- Had to take out the motherboard to install
- Kind of heavy

Other Thoughts: CPU temp is about 48F idle, 105F max while gaming.

It says it's for AM3+, but the AMD clips provided do not angle down like the pictures show in the instructions. I was able to install it by using the stock back plate and longer screws that would reach from the clips to the back plate.
