The Zalman CNPS9900 MAX-B combines some of the most advanced technologies in the market used for CPU coolers to create powerful cooling performance. The CPU cooler utilizes composite heatpipe which is 50% more effective in transferring heat compared to ordinary heatpipes. Combined with a whisper-quiet 135 mm blue LED PWM fan positioned between two massive nickel plated pure copper heatsinks, the CNPS9900 MAX-B is more than enough to satisfy overclockers and users who are looking for ultra powerful cooling performance in silent operation.

  • newegg Powerful Cooling Performance [Qmax: 300W] Optimally designed pure copper fins effectively disperse heat away from the CPU via composite heatpipes, while the high capacity 135mm fan quickly cools the heatsink for stable operation of high performance CPUs.
  • newegg Ultra Quiet 135mm Blue/Red LED Fan An ultra quiet 135mm fan is incorporated for minimized noise while the blue LEDs heighten the cool aesthetics.
  • newegg Black-Pearl Nickel Plating The entire copper heatsink of CNPS9900 MAX-B is ‘Black-Pearl’ Nickel Plated for long-term corrosion resistance, while the deep ‘Black-Pearl’ tone along with the high intensity blue LEDs reinforce its powerful aesthetics.
  • newegg PWM Fan Speed Control The PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) fan automatically adjusts fan speed according to the CPU’s temperature, while the included Resistor Cable (RC7P) provides the option of reducing the input voltage for overall reduction of fan speed and noise.
  • newegg High Performance Super Thermal Grease ZM-STG2 The included all new high performance thermal grease ZM-STG2 maximizes heat transfer from the CPU to the base of CPU cooler for intensified cooling performance.
  • newegg Versatile Compatibility The Zalman CNPS9900 MAX-B accommodates a broad range of CPU sockets including Intel LGA1156 / 1366 / 775 and AMD AM3 / AM2+ / AM2.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Efficient cooling. Quiet enough to where I never realized it was running even when CPU was under load.

Cons: Bulky to where I had to break a plastic portion of my case to get it to fit. Had to swap out for longer screws to install with the bracket for my AMD processor.

Other Thoughts: Bought this back in Apr 2012 and it has lasted up until Oct 2015 before the fan speed began to stay down around 500 even when the CPU is under a load. Would say it was worth the money back when I bought it.

1 out of 5 eggsDestroyed CPU

Pros: None

Cons: So, where do I begin? I did read the reviews and saw all the red flags about the trouble people had with the cooler and I should have listened. But, I have bought one of these in the past and had no issues, so I thought I would risk it. Well, if you couldn't tell by the title, things went very very bad.

First and foremost, Zalman, please explain to me and everyone else why the screws are so short? There is absolutely no reason or logic as to why you made them so short. So, because they are so short it takes extreme pressure and brute force to even try and get the screw to reach the mounting plate under the Motherboard. Well, guess what, because of the force needed, it broke my CPU. I don't mean it cracked it, no, it just bent the hell out of the pins so now my computer won't post and t=my ASUS Mobo reports code 58. 58 being CPU self test failed.

Oh, I had to abandon trying to even get the fan on as I couldn't get more that one screw hooked on. So, I went back to the old stock fan and that is when I discovered the problem.

So, I will warn anyone that is thinking about buying this cooler. DON'T. It may look really nice, but unless you want to risk destroying your CPU just keep browsing to the next one.

Other Thoughts: I have an older system. Running a 1st gen I5 2500k Socket 1155. This cooler says it is compatible. It isn't.

1 out of 5 eggsAMD clips are essentially flat; can't install

Pros: By all reports, Zalman CPU coolers cool very effectively. I hope I get the chance to confirm that someday.

Cons: The AMD "clips" (pieces of metal by which the cooler is attached to the motherboard) have to be bent down at the end so that they can reach from where they are attached at the cooler side to where the nuts and bolts can secure it to the motherboard. That's how they are shown in the manual, and that's how they appear in a video showing the cooler being installed on an AMD motherboard.

The AMD clips in the unit I received are essentially flat. After attaching them to the cooler according to instructions, when I set the cooler on a flat surface, it rests on the polished surface that is intended to rest on the CPU. In the video, it rests on the AMD clips. If I tried to attach the cooler, I suspect I'd end up punching a CPU-sized hole in the motherboard. I cannot bend the clips myself with the precision needed for a good thermal connection between the CPU and the cooler. so this highly-rated cooler is worthless to me.

Other Thoughts: Unfortunately, Zalman's support has a reputation as abysmal as the reputation of its products is good. Their support web page has a picture of people on the phone, but they give no phone number whatsoever, and do not have any online support chat. I was expecting to assemble my new computer over the Labor Day weekend, but thanks to Zalman, that won't be happening unless I can find a good cooler nearby quickly and for a good price on a holiday weekend.

5 out of 5 eggsZALMAN CNPS9900MAX-B 135mm Long life bearing CPU Cooler Blue LED

Pros: Great looking fan, works well. Looks cool with the Cougar Blue Led fans I installed with it.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I have read about others complaining with its installation but if you go through its manual and watch the video on youtube it is very easy to install. It took me only 10 mins to install and this is my first high end PC build. I only chose this fan as I like the look of it and was not sure about its performance. So far I have no complaints.

3 out of 5 eggsVery difficult as an upgrade

Pros: High airflow, keeps my i5 4690k at about 65C under full load. Looks cool.

Cons: Almost impossible to install if the motherboard is already inside the case. The screw holes are underneath the fan assembly, leading to extremely awkward angles for screwing if you can't use the Allen wrench horizontally because of space constraints. The installation requires approximately three hands: one to hold down the fan, one to screw in the screws, and one to hold the bracket on the back (a task for which the included double-sided tape is woefully inadequate).

The worst part of the installation was that the instructions were incorrect. The instructions state that air flow from the thick side to the thin side, when it is actually opposite. The instructions also say to use the backside bracket in the wrong orientation.

Other Thoughts: I have installed other cpu fans before and they take less than 10 minutes. Between the awkward design, having to figure out how to use the backside bracket on my own, and then having to take it off and reinstall it because it was backward, this fan took well over an hour.

4 out of 5 eggsQuiet, keeps the CPU cool....but installation: yikes!

Pros: - VERY quiet, I really like the resistor that limits the RPM (I don't OC, don't really need the extra oomph)
- Looks really sharp
- Keeps everything nice and cool.

Cons: - Installation. This was used on an Asus A88X-Plus MB and AMD Athlon 860K. I think it would be easier if they supplied mounting screws that were a few mm longer.

Other Thoughts: Installing it was a bugger, like many reviews noted, so I docked a star. However, for the price ($20 after sale and rebate) I'll deal with some installation headaches.

5 out of 5 eggsUnique

Pros: Cools efficiently and is aesthetically pleasing. I am still 100% happy!!

Cons: Only thing I had trouble with was mounting this to my mother board. It took a little "motivation" but overall I can't complain to much.

Other Thoughts: Great cooler, quiet, and affordable. I would buy it again!

4 out of 5 eggsManual error for orientation

Pros: I've owned various Zalman coolers for years now. Bought this one for my new 2011V3 build with Corsair Dominator DDR4 that comes with the clip-on coolers, as it is thin enough to use the clip-ons on both sides of the CPU. My original choice - the Noctua NHD14 - was too large. Zalman looks better and cools almost as well according to the stress tests I've seen.

Cons: The manual is wrong - says to orient the cooler so that the thinner side faces the rear, but the picture next to the text shows the airflow passing from the thinner side to the thicker side. So obviously you want to orient it with the thinner side facing the front of the case, to avoid conflicting airflow patterns. The online manual at shows the same thing. Guess Zalman can't be bothered to correct the error.

5 out of 5 eggsVery effective fan

Pros: - The fan is very effective in cooling the cpu.
- 4 Pin connector
- Easy to install
- the fan is quiet

Cons: - the screw design is not very good. You may have a difficult time to unmount it once the fan is installed. I may go with cooler master next time just because of the screws. I don't expect Zalman to give out the screws as a replacement for free, but at least please sell the screw or the mounting kit as a replacement. The screw is really driving me crazy.

Other Thoughts: I love this fan and I would recommend this fan.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent CPU fan

Pros: Looks great - excellent design - Attaches easily to your CPU socket - and Holds up well - Keeps CPU much cooler then stock cooler --

Cons: little large so make sure your case can handle it

Other Thoughts: I liked this cooler so much I just bought another one - For my new computer X99 build -- I could use the old one in the rebuild - because it still is running great and it has been in the machine - A Home build asus intel i7 since 2010 - And this machine runs 24/7 -- So I think that is a pretty good record - and now with $20.00 rebate you can't go wrong --
