CNPS10X Optima Features

Powerful Cooling Performance

Optimally designed aluminum fins disperse heat away from the CPU via four heatpipes with 6,553cm2 of Heat Displacement Area, while a switching-noise-free, high capacity 120mm fan quickly cools the heatsink for incredibly stable operation of high performance CPUs.

4 heatpipes

Shark`s Fin Blade / Dual Fan Support

Shark`s Fin Blade

Optimized for maximum airflow, Shark's Fin Blade Fan greatly reduces the turbulence caused by fan rotation, thus decreasing the noise and vibration while increasing the airflow. The heatsink is designed to mount one or two fans according to your preferences.

Differentiated Design

Direct Touch Heatpipe (DTH) Base technology transfers the CPU's heat directly to the heatpipes, thereby minimizing heat resistance and maximizing cooling performance.

Differentiated Design

Compatible with Mid Tower Cases (180mm Width)

Compatible with Mid Tower Case

For optimum case compatibility, the heatsink's height is set to 152mm which ensures compatibility with a case width of 180mm or greater.

3 out of 5 eggsRattling fan

Pros: Fast delivery but that's par for Newegg. Not hard to install if you can get to the back of mb. Nice price.
Fins clear memory heat spreaders but just barely (MSI) and has 3/8" clearance on side of case (NZXT)

Cons: Fan rattling after 5 days.(that's not cool)

1 out of 5 eggsLow quality

Pros: N/A

Cons: The copper on the plate had gouges. This is because there was no protective plastic cover on the plate. There are gaps between the copper and aluminum so it will never set flat on the processor. the aluminum fins are flimsy and cheap

Other Thoughts: This is my first and last Zalman product purchase. No way I'm installing this on my $350 processor. I bought it at a local retail store and took it back for refund. Bought another name brand cooler and it works great . They were smart enough to put on a protective cover and no gaps

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsDecent cooler, poor quality fan, bad warranty

Pros: I got it for pretty cheap after MIR. Seems to be pretty efficient at cooling.

Cons: Where to start...

1) The packaging was short one motherboard screw that I needed. How that happens I am not sure. I decided to install it anyway with just three motherboard screws and it seems to be seated pretty evenly so I'm okay with that.

2) After about 3 months the fan starting making an incredibly annoying clicky sound. It was pretty weird at first. If I lay the palm of my hand across the side of my computer case, the sound goes away so it was an issue with vibrations going through the case and causing the annoying sound. After playing detective for a while trying to find the source of the vibrations, I finally narrowed it down to the cpu fan on this cooler. The fan was causing vibrations to go throughout my computer case and upon inspecting the fan, I found out that the fan bearings were loose and that I could move the fan blade back and forth. The fan still worked fine and it was cooling just fine, but eventually I just got fed up with the super annoying sound and ordered a different 120mm fan (a Noctua) for the cooler unit. I am pretty sure that will fix the vibrations problem.

3) Of course the warranty had expired once the fan started failing. Also, Zalman is terrible at responding to any emails I sent them. No responses at all.

Other Thoughts: For the price (if you can find it for <$20 like I did), the cooling capacity is pretty good. However, be prepared to find the quality of the fan to be lackluster.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Cooler and huge

Pros: This cooler is a great cooler. It's large, but size does matter with coolers. I've been an cooler master 212evo fan and own 3 of them. I bought this on sale for 29.99 with a 20.00 rebate. what a steal!

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I'm running this on a AMD 6800 APU and it is more then enough cooling. Don't kid yourself, APU's get toasty

5 out of 5 eggsHUGE, but does it's job really well.

Pros: I was having processor overheating problems with my FX 6300, so I upgraded to a case with better ventilation and this CPU fan($10 after rebate on New Egg. It was a total game changer.

Before, my system was overheating and performing an emergency shutdown when playing processor intensive games like Crysis and Battlefield 3. Not to mention it constantly sounded like a jet engine. Since installing the Shark's fin cooler, my system purrs like a kitten (a quiet kitten, at that) and is able to handle a heavy load in Turbo mode.

I'm only using the single fan, as that's what it came with, but it has a slot for two fans. Just waiting for a free after rebate deal to solve that problem.

Cons: Installation was a bit of a pain. I'm really glad I had a friend with me, because screwing onto the mother board was a bit of a task. Fortunately there are loads of youtube videos to walk you through it.

Other Thoughts: As the title says, this sucker is gigantic, and it BARELY fit in my Micro ATX case. I mean barely. So make sure you take proper measurements if you're tight on space..

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fan worked for 30 days before making sounds of imminent failure.

Cons: I bought this in Korea. Newegg doesn't ship internationally, but after I had an issue with the part and the local retailer was unhelpful...I figured I could get in touch with Zalman and get a refund so I came here to search for a contact number and some info. That is when I saw it: 30 day limited warranty.

That is right.... This hunk of junk has a 30 day limited warranty. Buyer beware. I'd always choose Cooler Master anyway, but it just wasn't available over here.

I didn't realize you could sell things in 2014 with a 30 day warranty and stay in business.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat price & performance

Pros: Final price after $20 rebate is $9.99, quick & easy install, dropped temps by 10°c from stock

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Purchased this to upgrade the cooling in my 6 yr old budget gaming rig.

Easily installed in the case, a Thermaltake v3 black with a Phenom II x4 955 BE on a Biostar TA785GE. I used Artic Silver 5 instead of the included thermal paste. Doesn't block any of my ram slots. Had to install without the fan to reach the 2 fan side screws, but the fan installation went easy as well.

I've only had this for a week but it's taken everything I've thrown at it. I even oc'd to 4.0GHz, ran prime 95 blend for 3 hrs and never went above 57°c. No need to keep it there but nice to know I can.

The best $9.99 I've spent on this rig.

1 out of 5 eggsZalman CPU Cooler - Poor quality control!

Pros: Have used before, and is a good performer for the price

Cons: Poor quality control! The supplied accessories are not compatible with themselves, lol!

Other Thoughts: I have used this CPU cooler in the past, and have been happy with it's price / performance. It is relatively easy to install for an Intel 1150 Socket. I decided to purchase another one, and low-and-behold, the supplied mounting accessories to not work with each other! The diameter of the threads on the nuts used on the backplate are too narrow for the supplied Stand-Off bolts! As a result, could not mount or use the cooler. I am guessing the supplied stand-off bolts were incorrect, as the diameter of the threads are too large. Now to hassle with RMA, and having to rush out and pay too much for another CPU cooler.

3 out of 5 eggsfan vibration and noise - bzzzzzz

Pros: - nice, sturdy, effective cooler
- mounting system is acceptably good for socket AM3+

After reading about the difficulty some folks had with mounting this cooler on an AM3+ socket, I decided to leave off the double-sided foam take that sticks the backing plate to the motherboard. Instead I used a soft item underneath the backing plate to hold it in place during installation. I had only a very minor issue getting the last of the screws to engage. A minimum of pressure on teh screw was sufficient to get the threads to engage with the nut in the backing plate.

Cons: lame fan. The fan fails to deliver on its fancy shark fin design. It has apparent balance problems leading to vibration throughout the case at about 1400 RPM. The vibrations are strong enough to make some case panels buzz, and even some loose items on my desk buzz from the vibrations. It is also noisier than it should be when the PWM controller ramps up the speed.

Other Thoughts: A well-known company like Zalman shouldn't be delivering a CPU cooler with a fan that you must immediately discard and replace with a good fan.

Three eggs because it's a nice cooler, but with a lame fan.
