Zalman bills itself as the "quiet cooling solution" and they have a reputation for easy to use, reliable products. They also have a reputation for creating products that look as good as they run. With the CNPS 7700 Cu, "bigger is better." A quiet, downward blowing 120mm ball bearing fan sits at the heart of a radial array of copper convection fins.
While it works silently in its normal setting, its Silent Mode virtually eliminates all noise as well as vibration as it cools not only the CPU, but the RAM, VGA card, Northbridge and other components. The included FAN MATE controller lets you choose in which mode the fan operates.
Heat is drawn away from the CPU by the pure copper base of the heatsink and it is transferred up into the twin semi-circular arrays of copper fins for dissipation. Both Intel Socket 775 and 478 Pentium 4 chips are supported by the 7700-Cu. It is also compatible with AMD 64 processors using 754, 939 and 940 sockets.

Pros: Zalman makes awesome coolers, this is my second from them. Keeps my CPU temps less than 110F under a load (BF2). Used in conjunction with Arctic Silver compound.
Cons: This cooler is HUGE! Make sure you have the room for it. I used it on an ASUS A8N-SLI Premium and a MSI Neo4 Platinum SLI (both socket 939) and both had Crosair TWINX2048-3200C2PRO installed. THE COOLER WILL NOT CLEAR THE RAM on either of these boards and seat properly on the CPU. You will have to cut/grind out the underside of the fins to make it seat properly. If you're OK with that, go for it! Otherwise get a smaller/different cooler.
Other Thoughts: Great stuff from Zalman/Newegg as always!

Effective and Quiet, fits in Q-Pack
Reviewed By: Dave I. on 2/9/2007
Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Extremely well constructed. Very quiet: makes far less noise than my case fans so, for me, it is effectively inaudible. Cools my E6600 better than the stock retail cooler. Does not use the tricky four-pin push connector that the retail fan uses (and people have so much trouble with). Fits inside of my Q-Pack.
For those people who, like me, have an Apevia Q-Pack; this fan DOES fit inside of the case. Unlike another reviewer who stated that you need to clip part of the copper heat spreader...you do Not need to do that. Instead, follow these instructions:
Install the support bracket (goes on back and front of your MB) prior to mounting your MB on the slideout tray...Then slide the MB and tray into the case BEFORE installing the HSF...Next, remove the Power Supply (4 screws). Then, apply your thermal paste to your CPU. Here comes the slightly tricky part......see "other thoughts" section for last step...
Cons: Massive! It will put a lot of weight and, possibly, stress on any MB which sits vertically in its case. Also, the fan is totally exposed, inside of the case, with no protective grills and loose cables can potentially obstruct the fan (this happened to me). Also, there are no fancy LED's (if you happen to like that sort of thing).
Other Thoughts: Not only is this fan less noisy than the stock fan that came with my CPU, but it cools better, also.
...installing HSF in Q-Pack...
Rotate the HSF 90 degrees so that the fan faces toward you (as opposed to facing toward the ceiling) and slide it between the Q-Pack case support rails. Re-orient it with the fan facing the ceiling and set it onto the CPU. Then, simply screw the HSF down and plug in the fan. No modification necessary.
My system specs (listed for compatibility reasons):
Apevia Q-Pack...Asus P5L-VM 1394 Micro ATX MB (945 Northbridge)...Conroe E6600 (overclocked to 2.86GHz) with Zalman CNPS-7700-Cu...Corsair DDR2 6400 (4-4-4-12) running FSB @ 1000Mhz)...WD Raptor 150GB with see-thru window...Maxtor 500GB...eVGA 7950GT o/c'd...Apevia 680Watt see-thru PS. All work well together.

Pros: I only review stuff thats been good for more than 1 year. This one fan has been on 3 different motherboard upgrades and processors fro0m an AMD Athlon 4000 to a PHENOM I 9850 over the past 3 years.
-easy to clean -cools everything around it -quiet -makes good use of case airflow for maximum rpm
Cons: fins are fragile
Other Thoughts: LAP THIS AND YOUR PROCESSOR...EVEN BETTER Able to overclock Phenom from 2.5 to 3.2 (good case cooling) with 1.43 volts and this fan keeps it at 56c under full load.
at full speed, multiple motherboards tell me this thing is running at 2600rpm full speed... with a 120mm side panel fan blowing on top of this i got 2732 full speed (i thought it was bios but every board shows this speed, so case fan positioning really help this fan much more than other fans. .... good stuff.

Nearly Silent and very cool
Reviewed By: on 10/19/2009
Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Nearly Silent and very cool. I run it at 1200 RPM and keeps my AMD 9350e at 41c with an ambient room temperature of 26C. Cooled the mobo down about 3C versus the stock AMD fans. It is quality. Nice machine work. Comes with thermal paste.
Cons: 3 pin rather than 4 pin, so you have to do the work to find the perfect balance between sound and heat. Covers the 1st memory slot, although it also cools your memory.
Other Thoughts: Not really a Pro or Con, but I have a ASUS M3A78-CM mobo and to make it work I drilled two small holes in the stock heat sink bracket. Then I followed the directions. Worked like a champ, although I'm sure I negated all sorts of warranties in the process. Fit was tight but perfect.

Does not generate noise or vibration in Silent Mode. Pure Copper base material ensures excellent heat dissipation. The large 120mm fan inside the FHS maximizes cooling performance by providing sufficient airflow even at slow rotation speeds. The large 120mm fan provides air flow over a large area, cooling not only the CPU, but the VGA card, Northbridge, FET, and RAM. The adjustable fan speed controller (FAN MATE 2) enables control of noise and fan performance.
