1 out of 5 eggsUpdate to previous review

Pros: None. Complete Fail.

Cons: The bottom plate, where the fan rests on the CPU is warped. Photographic evidence shows the CPU has a perfect layer of thermal paste, but when the cooler was removed, the only paste on the bottom plate was along two edges.

Other Thoughts: Pretty sad when the stock intel fan is 20C cooler at idle than this garbage. I have used Zalman for years but their QC has totally gone downhill. This is unacceptable.

1 out of 5 eggsNOT Worth the money at all

Pros: Looks massive. 6 heat pipes. Should work fantastic.

Cons: Does not cool properly at all. I have used Zalman coolers for years. This is the first time I have been disappointed. My CPU over heats when playing WoW. Should not be even close. I completely took the computer apart to make sure the fan was installed properly, and it is correct. Idle at 39-41C. 98C under load.

Other Thoughts: I will be replacing this with another cooler. Unfortunately it will not be a Zalman.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Cooler For OCing

Pros: Great cooler for overclocking! It's running my FX-6300 at 4.8ghz right now. Never gets over 40*C. Install was super easy. I don't understand how people can find it difficult. It took me less than 10 minutes to install the cooler, and mobo into my case. Its a big cooler, but that's required for its great performance.

Cons: The fins on the cooler around where you clip on the optional fans are very sharp. Could cut wires within your case if they rub.

4 out of 5 eggscheap, works well, difficult to install

Pros: After rebate it is really cheap. Performance is decent

Cons: Due to its size, the most difficult heatsink I ever installed, even on a brand new system. Almost as hard as changing diaper for my baby girl

5 out of 5 eggsGreat in all ways

Pros: Excellent cooling. Quiet. Attractive. Everything a wome....HSF should be. I have it mounted to an FX-8310 clocked up to 4.1Ghz on an ASROCK 970 Performance board.

Cons: It's big. Double check specs with your intended case/motherboard/ram for clearance.

Other Thoughts: One of the best coolers I have used. Fairly easy to install... make sure you read the instructions!!! If you flip the back-plate the wrong way, the bolts will be too short.

Big and impressive.

Cons: Fan a little louder than I like so I took an egg off.

Other Thoughts: A steal at $9.99, would not have bought at reg price.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well but installation tricky

Pros: Works well, got 4.3GHz on my i5-4670k on the first attempt. Might try to go higher later.

Cons: Instructions need work, a lot of the diagrams are misleading or hard to read. Need to work out a mental model of how to install it since it's so large and blocks other components. This is my first aftermarket cooler install, so it wasn't terrible nor was it very easy.

Other Thoughts: So first of all this is my first non-stock cooler and after hearing that the major con is the installation, I decided to give it a try anyway. This thing is massive and it barely cleared the height of my RAM modules. Mine doesn't have RAM heatsinks or anything so I'm not sure if some RAM sticks with heatsinks would have been too tall for it. Had to remove/unplug pretty much everything from the board to put it in, except the front panel wires (those are annoying to put back since they're at the very bottom of the board).

The instructions were small so a lot of details about orientation and the order of installation were either hard to read or left out altogether. So I had to kind of build a mental model of the installation and "predict" a few steps ahead of the installation manual.

Whole process took about 1.5 hours just for the installation.

5 out of 5 eggsAbove average air cooler

Pros: Bought because of the price. They must have a load of these to move because of all the installation complaints, so they are practically giving them away A/R and promo code. Cooling performance is at least on par with the hyper 212 and was 1/3 of the cost. I install my air coolers for upwards airflow and I can fit any lo profile ram under the fins in a z87/97.

Cons: Was hoping for a little better cooling, results about equal to a hyper 212's and corsair a70's I have and below almost all but the cheapest liquid setups . And it's a little laborious to get it tightened down but that's obvious as the size of the cooler dictates that the bolts are located under the fins. Please just look at the pictures! and do not be surprised about - taking your board out of the case - the bolts are to short because you installed the hold down plates upside down - my ram doesn't fit or gee, it's to big for my case.

Other Thoughts: If you want to use push /pull, the two extra fan clips work with 120mm fans, you don't need 140's.

4 out of 5 eggsReview for SKT-1150 installation

Pros: Looks impressive!

Cons: Difficult to install.

Other Thoughts: This review refers to installations on Socket 1150 (and probably 1155 as well). Many reviewers are complaining that the screws ('bolts') are too short. These reviewers probably made the same mistake I also initially made. It's difficult to tell from these pictographic type instructions, but the parts they call 'nuts' must be inserted BEFORE the parts they call 'side caps' ... in other words the back of the nuts should be positioned between the side cap and the metal clip. If positioned correctly they are plenty long, if incorrectly positioned they are too short. If installed correctly the side caps hold the nuts in place.

The second complaint some reviewers make is that the motherboard has to be removed to install this cooler. This should be expected, as nearly all high-performance heatsinks require a brace underneath the motherboard to more securely attach and support the significant additional weight. Some cases have board pans which provide access to the back of the motherboard for this purpose. However, it is probably a good idea to remove the motherboard anyway because installing a large, high-performance motherboard requires concentration, dexterity and considerable mouth distortions to accomplish. Having only cramped access increases the chance of accidental damage to the motherboard or other components. Even if your motherboard is uninstalled and freely accessible, if it has large power module heatsinks (near the processor socket) you may find large heatsinks like this nearly impossible to install due to limited access to one or more sides of the processor (ex: Asus Z97-Pro).

If you are using high-profile type memory (tall) then you'll probably be limited to the outer set of memory sockets. I measure about 38mm minimum distance between the 1150 socket bracket and closest usable memory slot. This is not unusual for high-performance heatsinks. But you will probably be able to use low-profile memory in the memory socket which will lie underneath the heatsink if the memory is installed prior to attaching the heatsink (but be careful to avoid hitting the memory when installing the heatsink or you could end up with a broken memory socket).

I will agree with most reviewers who complain that this cooler is neither easy nor quick to install. But once you get it installed you're good to go. If you plan to regularly change your processor, then you definitely want to find an easier to uninstall/reinstall cooling option (I suggest a liquid cooler).

I also agree that the fan needs a shroud. But clips are provided which will allow installation of a second (and third) 140mm fan if you need more airflow.
