4 out of 5 eggsGreat cooler, but MEASURE BEFORE YOU BUY!!!

Pros: Great cooler, had the 9900 MAX on my last build, figured I'd upgrade to the 9900 DF this time. At 100% load, temps barely hit 50c, Although this is a great cooler. Be wary, on a ASRock extreme7+ mobo, the cooler WILL cover the first ram slot. (you'll only be able to use the last 3 of the 4 total slots.) What I did to remedy this, is I was forced to instal the cooler backwards, and turned the rear fan around as well (like you would do with a closed loop cooler) it still looks fine in the case, and this doesn't seem to have affected my temps at all (in fact it's probably allowing the CPU to stay a few degrees cooler since it's getting fresh air from outside the case. I also have 2x 200mm on the top of my Thermaltake Chaser case which still do a great job of expelling the heat from this cooler, as well as the massive amounts of heat my 970 G1 x2 SLI produces.

Cons: I had to dock 1 egg off for it taking up a single ram slot on this mobo, but really, That's mostly my fault for assuming this cooler had similar dimensions to the 9900max (single fan) version of this cooler.

3 out of 5 eggsAMD clips came either unfinished or haphazardly made...

Pros: It's a great performing cooler, bought it to replace an h60 AIO. Keeps the cpu (FX-8350) cooler than the h60 did with no risk of leaking (color me paranoid).
Looks really cool, nice blue glow.

Cons: The install is a bit confusing, but simple enough to figure out. The problem arises when you have an AMD cpu. The brackets for the AMD chip are supposed to have a sharp bend in them to allow proper mounting. The ones I received were not bent. I had to mangle them with pliers to get them to fit, but even then only three were able to allow screw to mount (normally would not be ok, but tested it and the three screws held it together just fine). Another problem is that the mounting wrench/key thing they give you is good for mounting, but NOT for unmounting. It was a significant hassle trying to mount and unmount this thing.

Other Thoughts: It is great at what it is supposed to do, but AMD buyers be warned, it may not fit and require adjustment or an RMA.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing cooling

Pros: Running an AMD FX-6350 at 4.2 Ghz, idling at 24C. I built this rig to play Star Citizen, as my older PC just couldn't cut it. Playing SC Arena Commander with maxed out settings, the CPU tops out at 45C. My GPU is a GTX 970 and it gets up to 70C. I'm astounded that an air cooler can keep the CPU so cool. Room temperature is around 19C.

Installation was not difficult. I just followed the directions, and made sure I had enough room before I ordered it.

Cons: It hangs over two of my memory slots on my Sabertooth 990FX MB, however, it does clear the low profile RAM. I have all 4 slots filled, but I would have to remove the HSF before I could remove the RAM. Not a big deal for me as I don't intend to remove it, but it is worth noting.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend installing this cooler on the MB while it is out of the case. Also, make sure you have your RAM installed BEFORE you install the HSF.

I have another Zalman HSF on another rig in the house, and it has performed flawlessly for over six years. This cooler already performs better than the old one. I hope it lasts as long! I'm sold on Zalman coolers.

5 out of 5 eggsCooler temps

Pros: Bought this to replace the stock heat sink and temps dropped considerably, went from 70C to 39C idle. With heavy use, temps climb up to about 43/44C

Cons: None/ Installation was easy and took less than an hour. Hearing how troublesome this heat sink is to install from other reviews I was hestitant in buying it, but I'm glad I did/ Fits well inside my Full tower case

5 out of 5 eggsBuy this if you have ANY AMD processor

Pros: Very quiet, Looks cool, and keeps my processor nice and cool. I have an AMD 8350 and it came with the stock, 40mm fan. When I play a game like, Arma 2 for example, The stock sync made it sound like it was a 737 starting up. the highest temp before I decided to buy this was at 70 to 75C. and started to De-clock itself. When I bought this, I rarely see it get over 55c. Average in Arma 2 now is 45 to 50c. After two years of owning this heat sync, I still do not have any problem

Cons: The sync is huge. If you have a mid size case, you may run into issues with room. If you have a large case, you will be fine.

Other Thoughts: Because of this product, I am not a satisfied and returning customer to Zalman products. If I have any issues with heat with a different computer, I will but a Zalman product.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat fan

Pros: Great looking fan even though it is huge. runs quiet and is not hard to install like some of the other reviews have said. just make sure you install it to the motherboard before installing the motherboard to the case to make it easier on you. getting idle temps on my overclocked i-5 at 32c

Cons: would have been nice to have the thermal paste pre applied.

Other Thoughts: easily fits in my thermaltake chaser a71 case

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: First day it booted up, noticed a change in my CPU temps right away, 20C cooler.

Cons: The installation is horrendous! I could hardly keep a nut in place to put a screw down in the cooler. And I don't mean to be rude here, but what kind of jerk makes a cooler taller than the case itself, with the board re-fitted and everything? I only got space for "139 mm"!

Other Thoughts: What's even worse is, I couldn't use my two fans I bought with the order I got, Item N82E16835181025.

It's that honkin' huge! It's like installing a jet engine to your CPU. And I thought I read on here that it was compatible with FM2. The box itself, and even the manual said otherwise. And because I couldn't screw down anything using the enclosed brackets, I had to fall back to using the motherboard's back plate.

If Zalman had made a smaller cooler (92mm/120mm), then I would have put it in my case, but I still couldn't use the fans I got.

Plus, it's blocking some of my RAM slots, so now I won't be able to upgrade anymore.

5 out of 5 eggsI'm "blown" away.

Pros: Excellent air flow and solid heat transfer.
I was idling at bios at a temp of 78°C with my stock cooler. When I bought the Zalman CNPS9900 and installed it, the temperature dropped to an ice cold 33°C with no load. Definitely a solid buy if you have the space and need to cool a CPU

Cons: Somewhat difficult to assemble, but nothing that can't be figured out by using common sense.

Other Thoughts: The Blue LED is pretty awesome. Could be brighter on the front side, but otherwise pretty sweet.

1 out of 5 eggsBig hopes, was very excited, but disappointed in the end

Pros: I'm a long time Zalman CPU cooler user, so when I went looking to build a new PC, a Zalman CPU cooler was on my list. The radial design looks great. The LED fans look great. The design lends itself to have plenty clearance from the RAM slots.

Cons: The specifications shows that the product is compatible with my motherboard (Asus Maximus VI Formula) and chassis (Thermaltake Chaser A-71). However the install kit is a nightmare.

Install Kit issues:
- The mounting nuts used to attach the back plate to the under side of the motherboard slip out of the holes really easily.
- The sticky tape used to hold the back plate in place acts like a spacer between the mobo and the back plate. With the extra space between the motherboard and back plate, the mounting nuts barely protrude though holes.
- The screws, that are used to mount the cooler to the backplate, sit about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch above the motherboard. It seems excessive downward force or compressive force is needed just to get the screws to make contact with the nuts that barely protrude thought the motherboard holes. I did not want to apply excessive force and I generally don't like to force-fit components, so I halted my install.
- Zalman includes an Alan wrench for tighenting the screws. However, with the physical force needed (described above) an extra set of hands is needed to work the Alan wrench.

I'm willing to bet that if Zalman included the mounting kit from the CNPS9700 LED product, the 9900 D/F install would be a breeze. There is an intuitive install video on Zalman's site for the CNPS9700 LED product, but not the 9900 D/F product. I sent an email to '' on 1/3/2014. As of 1/15/2014 there has been no reply from their customer service or technical support departments.

Ooh... Zalman has an All-In-One water CPU cooler product with that radial design. No thank you... not taking any chances with Zalman at this point.

*** This ended up being a big disappointment. ***

Lastly, the middle fan was bent/leaning toward the rear heat sink. It arrived that way due to shipper rough handling. To the RMA department it goes.

Other Thoughts: I replaced the item with a CoolerMaster Seidon 120m All-In-One Water cool product for less than the Zalman?!

Seidon 120m = super easy, brainless installation.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsZALMAN CNPS9900

Pros: Works good. 4770k @ 4.5GHz idle 28c 100%load 72c. Installed on ASUS MAXIMUS VI FORMULA with plenty of room for any size ram air spreaders.

Cons: Annoying to install. with out the aid of springs on the screws its hard to make them reach. After fumbling with it for a wile its installed.

Other Thoughts: Looks good wile preforming its job.
