5 out of 5 eggsResearch & Installation of the EVERCOOL HPL-815EP Ever Lubricate CPU Cooler

Pros: Simple installation, cruise right through an even "Easier" setup. This cooler works great, setting idle temps on my Phenom II X3 740 at 34c (it's early summer here - room temp. is 79f) and in Prime95 under load it's at 61c ave. on all four cores... yes, four... this one is unlocked in my 98TD Evo board. Had this on my mini-itx system and changed that out to a Zalman CNPS2X which works just cool.

Cons: the fan is not my favorite so I swapped it out for a Yate Loon D12SM-12C (tricky fit) which moves about 50cfm and it's silent. All in all, I'd rate this installation on a difficulty scale of 0 (Zero) out of 5... Simple, quick and left nice and tidy. The only real Con is the way a few reviews are left about the design of this cooler... I feel that the more you actually read about products, the more you actually know... what? Come on kids, reading is learning.

Other Thoughts: Low Profile and Small Form Factor only means "You Need To Do Some Research" before you go off on a Buying Spree. These companies design and fabricate these components with the plan to fit or work with a multitude of system components... motherboard design/layout is the Main factor here and blaming someone else for one's lack of Computer Component Knowledge and basic Common Sense seems to be the Standard shown here with the Newegg "Overall Tech. Knowledge Rating System". If the responsibility lies on everyone else's shoulders, then someone else needs to learn to take the initiative...

Something else, you who rate yourselves at such High Tech. Knowledge... a Small Form Factor build doesn't mean that you have to install a Low Profile cpu cooler. Come on kids- Research... the 'net is at your fingertips and you want to whine and cry about having to disassemble and store parts for your system in order to install a cpu cooler you have YET to learn about? Really? Rated at "High Tech. Level" but needs "clips" to mount a cooler... "heatsink is not in the correct orientation"... Really? These coolers are fab'd around as many system boards as possible for their design- Do "Your" research, too.

4 out of 5 eggsGood cooler, loud fan

Pros: The cooler works pretty well and shaved some height off the stock Intel cooler. The CPU stayed cool after a couple hours of benchmarking quite well. Worked well for my 4 inch high case and was able to put a ultra thin 10mm fan above it for extra airflow.

Cons: Annoying wine, and gets quite loud at full rpm. Tested the fan at all levels and at idle is quite audible. There is occasional clicking when the fan is working hard.

2 out of 5 eggsBetter be ready for HELL

Pros: It's not that loud like people say but read my con about noise
small overall height

must take off standard AMD mounting hardware
no clips
heatsink is not in the correct orientation -- it hits components on the motherboard
difficulty rating for installation is AT LEAST 4 out of 5
you take off stuff from your motherboard only to wonder if you should keep them for when you change to another heat sink
There is a buzz/whine/tone that is consistent with how much processing the CPU is doing. Kinda like having a radio pick up your alternator (for those who don't know == annoying)
takes a long time to install
Chinglish instructions

Other Thoughts: Wish I could give this 0 eggs.
Don't plan on returning it because I "made it work"
I'm writing this review 15 minutes after installing it, so I can't comment on the amount of cooling it does but my CPU is 1 deg C hotter than it used to idle.

3 out of 5 eggsAMD users probably out of luck

Pros: Looks great and is a great price.

Cons: Did not fit Mini-ITX FM1 motherboard. Heat pipes either hit motherboard components or block ram slots.

Other Thoughts: I'm kind of confused as to why a company would make a low profile cooler that doesn't fit SFF builds.

3 out of 5 eggsLoud fan. Heat pipes overhang RAM slots.

Pros: *Well made heatsink with four heatpipes.
*Fan pushes ton of air.

Cons: *LOUD! This single fan if louder than three fans combined from my other system.
*Uses custom mounting bracket, not much support for back side of motherboard.
*Large area of overhang, on most boards will rob you of usable memory slots, or crush CPU power capacitors if you are not careful.

Other Thoughts: I intended to use this cooler on a matx case build because of the low profile, but it will not work for the borad that I purchased it for (Biostar A75MH) unless I ran with one fewer sticks of RAM in single channel mode, which is not acceptable. So I stuck with the stock AMD cooler and used this instead on a second AMD AM3 system I have. On that board (ASRock M3A770DE), orienting the cooler in the direction that would allow access to all four RAM slots would crush a capacitor on the board under a heat pipe, so I have it rotated so that the heat pipes again, disable a bank worth of RAM. Also, the mounting seems very precarious, the four provided screws seem to have very little meat to grab from the back side of the board.

Overall, a well made cooler, I just wish the heat pipes weren't so obtrusive, and that it used a standard mounting bracket.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes not fit Zotac 890 itx

Pros: I purchased this as a low profile cooler my HTPC build:
-Zotac 890 itx board
-Corsair XMS 8GB Ram (DDR3 1333)

The heat pipes interfere in any orientation on the motherboard no matter what type of ram. I went with the Gemini IIS. Fit's great and much better cooling efficiency.

Cons: The heat pipes are too wide to fix most ITX size motherboards. The low profile is great, but the CFM is low and the width makes it undesirable for an ITX size HTPC. I gave it 4 stars because it would work nicely with a Micro ATX or similar size board.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat fan

Pros: Cheap, easy to install, fits cramped areas, and comes with the thermal paste.

Cons: Can get somewhat loud when your playing high end games, but other than that it is silent.

Other Thoughts: Would buy another one.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Heatsink for HTPC cases

Pros: >Low profile CPU Heatsink/Fan design. Perfect for slim HTPC cases (such as Silverstone ML03) which require 70mm or less coolers.
>Still uses copper heat pipes even though it's a low-pro cooler.

Cons: >Fan isn't very quiet.
>They sold out of this cooler the day I went to purchase it. I guess the reviewer below me was the one that got it. I ended up having to buy from fleabay & ended up paying more =(

Other Thoughts: I'm very pleased with this cooler in my HTPC case which i built to run PFsense. It's on a dual core AMD & keeps it more than cool. However I might buy a new fan to go on it, the one that comes stock is very loud for some reason. However this is probably the best low-pro CPU cooler out there. Check frosty tech review on it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Cooler

Pros: It's a nice low profile cooler. Installed it in maybe 15 minutes. It comes with brackets for all current mainstream processors. The parts kit even includes little rubber washers to install on the screws to eliminate vibration and allow for a snugger fit. It's not as powerful as a higher end air cooler, but for a slim HTPC it is absolutely ideal.

Cons: The fan is noisier than I anticipated, so I will be replacing it with a quieter one. The screws that attach the brackets to the cooler are just a hair too long, and they end up screwing into the heatsink for just the last little bit. Neither of these really affects the cooler's performance, though.

Other Thoughts: Needed a low profile cooler capable of handling a 95W CPU. Overall, I'm actually very impressed with this thing, and I would buy another one should the need arise. The pictures also make it look bigger than it really is. It's actually smaller than your average intel stock cooler. It fit perfectly on my Asus P5G41T-M MATX board.
