A major nightmare to install
- Pros: Re-badged Xigmatek HDT-S1283, based on heatsink comparison review it is suppose to cool very well, low noise and very cheap.
- Cons: Read all the 3 star reviews: installation was a nightmare. Fan came pre-installed with fins bent, it was impossible to push the push pin down without removing the fan. Fan removal was semi-difficult, but after you remove it you will gain access to the other 2 pins, pushing them down is another story. I pushed so hard my mobo was bent, I was so afraid I cracked the cpu since one side will go in while the other side will not. Like other reviewers my thumb is still hurting after 2 days. After all 4 pins are pushed down you have to reinstall the fan which is not an easy task since the fins are bent. Attached one side of the fan to the heatsink, next thing you know the pins on the other side popped up. After 2 hours of installing it I checked the temp at bootup and cpu temp was 33C (Q6600 not OCed yet), was bit disappointed as I get that from stock heatsink/fan.
Awesome product
- Pros: Well, I went from the stock Intel heatsink to this and its like night and day. The temps were a massive drop on a e2160. The idle wasn't that much 3-4*C, but upon load I would get 7-8*C drops.
- Cons: Push pins suck big time. Also watch out for the fins, if you push one too hard it can come off easily.
- Other Thoughts: Buying a bolt-through kit greatly aids in the cooling of this heatsink. It also gives me peace of mind whenever I move it that the heatsink wont come crashing onto my video card. And to the guy below. Do NOT lap this heatsink. If you do so you will puncture the heatpipes.
Great Cooler
- Pros: Great Cooler, HDT Design is great for cooling. The fan included doesnt move nearly 90CFM, so i replaced it with a silenX 90CFM fan, which also is nice and quiet. Temps are in the 50's at idle and in the 60's at load with my Q9450@ 3.5Ghz, Very Respectable.
- Cons: Bottom surface is nowhere near mirror finish, lapping it should hopefully reduce temps a little, although the temps are very respectable for an air cooler.
- Other Thoughts: Its just a rebadged Xigmatek HDT S1283, But the kingwin is cheaper, and if you want the bolt through kit, it should work with the kingwin. I plan on lapping the bottom of the heatsink this weekend when my bolt through mounting kit comes.
