Step up from the stock cooling fan and heatsink that came with your processor with the MassCool WhisperRock II. Designed for use with value-driven AMD processors including Athlon MP, Sempron, Athlon XP, and Duron as well as Intel's Celeron CPUs, the forged-aluminum heatsink and fins provide the cooling performance you need to keep your desktop running at its peak.

A long-life, ball bearing 80mm fan quickly draws heat away from the cooler's fins thanks to its 2,700rpm speed. The unit installs in minutes. Just expose the pre-applied thermal grease pads and clip the assembly into place on your motherboard. A simple, standard 3-pin connection on your motherboard delivers power.

  • newegg Extra Quiet The ball bearing 80mm fan works at a whisper-quiet 26.5dBA.
  • newegg Forged Aluminum Frame The forged aluminum frame delivers effective heat dissipation despite its light weight.

5 out of 5 eggsNo more powering down

Pros: Excellent cooler for the money. I wen with it because it had good reviews, and I wasn't disappointed. It's also not very loud. Newegg also delivered it fast.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I had trouble with my PC shutting down out of the blue. (used stock AMD fan previously) I had previously changed the power supply, and tested the ram extensively. I put this CPU cooler on with Arctic Silver 5 and voila - no more issues.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Good cooling. Quiet. Little bit big. Really like that shock absorbers for the fan.
Quick shipping.

Cons: Looks fragile with all the plastic frames and rubber shock absorbers. Unless you're using the pipe wrench to put it in, you'll be OK.

Other Thoughts: The base has thermal paste pre-applied but little bit small for an Athlon x2 5000. I was affraid that it wasn't enough cooling but it turned out OK.

5 out of 5 eggsCool and Quiet

Pros: Before my CPU would idle at 42 degrees Celcius and up to 49 degrees while playing games. With this replacing the OEM fan and heatsink, I seem to have dropped both by about 10 degrees.

Cons: The way it was packaged allowed some cardboard dust to get onto the pre-applied thermal grease. Not an issue if you are going to clean it off and use your own anyways.

5 out of 5 eggsQuieter with fan control

Pros: I have it on a barton 2500 and it cools very well. So well I can turn the fan speed down to make it quiet and still keep the cpu cool.

Cons: It is noticeably audible at 100% fanspeed. I would not consider it quiet if run at full speed.

Other Thoughts: At 50% fanspeed it is very quiet and still cools the cpu to acceptable levels under load. Overclocking the cpu to 3200 requires 75% fanspeed to keep it under 50C under load, it is still pretty quiet at 75%. I have this in a near silent PC build and it has worked out well coupled with software to control the speed of the fan (speedfan).

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't Work For Me

Pros: Easy to install, was compatible powerwise with my old motherboard (Abit kr7a)

Cons: Fan spun up nicely, but the clamping mechanism for this heatsink / cooler was not tight enough to the processor. I could not get the system to power up for more than 2 seconds at a time.

Other Thoughts: Seems like a nice enough fan, and was quiet, but the weak clamping assembly made this a no go for me. A shame, because the price was right.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks ok nothing really special

Pros: Works as well as the OEM. About as cheap to buy this heatsink and fan as to replace OEM heatsink fan.

Cons: Not as quiet as I would have thought going from the OEM heatsink and fan to this.

Other Thoughts: Very tall has to switch cases to use it or it would have been inside the PSU.

5 out of 5 eggsvery nice

Pros: cheap, quiet

Cons: its a little tall, but not bad. doesnt fit on a 478

Other Thoughts: put this on an old p3 that used to always get smoking hot, now the fan doesnt even kick up. I was prepared to load my case down with fans on top of this, but this seems to work fine. and yes, its quiet.
