5 out of 5 eggsGreat Cooler for an LGA775

Pros: Keeps processor idling at 27 degrees C on a core 2 quad q8200. Very high quality fit and finish. Nice surface where processor meets heatsink.

Cons: A bit noisy, not bad for a high performance heatsink though.

Other Thoughts: If you need a heatsink for an older LGA775 this is a great product and does the job very well. Much better than the stock Intel cooler.

4 out of 5 eggsNice Price, but....

Pros: The price is right. From previous reviews that I have seen, this particular fan clogs up with dust more than usual. I am willing to give this Masscool fan a shot, if anything, I will hang on to the OEM fan, just in case. LGA775 fans are becoming hard to find. I've used half a can of air on the OEM fan, so how bad can this be? Also, I would rather not remove the plastic standoffs I need and risk breakage.

Cons: Picks up dust fast, hearsay, have yet to find out for myself. Contentions that the heat-sink is a bit concave, I did see it, but with the diagonal use of thermal paste, that should compensate, I hope.

Other Thoughts: I really don't know how this fan will do, but I trust the Masscool name, and I have never been steered wrong with any Newegg purchase since 1996!

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It had the plastic standoffs that I needed

Cons: Worst quality heat sink I've ever seen. Copper surface was so concave you could see it let alone feel it. It would have to be face milled to come close to being flat and true. It barely made contact with the TIM blob.

Other Thoughts: I was replacing an old P4 Intel cooler and only really needed to replace one of the plastic standoffs that had broke.

4 out of 5 eggsVery cheap

Pros: Cheap but effective cooler.

Cons: Can get clogged with dust in 2+ weeks.

Other Thoughts: Cleaning this thing is somewhat fun :D
The front fan piece comes off easily and the dust can be removed by large packs... tends to be moist dust for some reason... good as new in less then a minute!

5 out of 5 eggsGood Cheap Fan

Pros: Very quiet. Bought it for a Pentium D Dual Core I had lying around for a gaming/browsing rig. Run well since typically the Pentium D's run hot. I am currently overclocked to 3.5Ghz and running at 118 degrees. The mounting system is awesome and super easy to put in. Low profile heat sink that will fit easily in on box packaged motherboards/cases.

Cons: Does not come with thermal paste.

Other Thoughts: Overall 5 eggs because it was above my expectations for performance and price. If I step up to a real heat sink for the 775 socket maybe i can get near 4.Ghz with this dated proc.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat!

Pros: Works great, cools cpu like a champ and very quiet!

Cons: hmm???

Other Thoughts: Buy this now, even if u have a stock fan, it will boost the cooling.

1 out of 5 eggsDesign Flaw

Pros: It works until it clogs with dust and cannot cool properly.

Cons: I have a customer who had this fan in their ATX tower system. They had repeated issues with the computer shutting down due to overheating. The first time I was called out, I saw a thick build up of dust on the heatsink. I cleaned it and the problem went away. This happened a second and a third time over the course of a year or so.

I have built hundreds of systems for customers and have NEVER had a single issue with overheating due to excessive accumulation of dust on the heatsink.

After their board died, I gave them the option of upgrading the CPU, but they chose not to. This issue occurred on two completely different motherboards. The third time around, I replaced it with a stock Intel HSF and they haven't had a problem since.

I'm not an engineer, but the problem seems to be the depth of the fan ring that clips to the heatsink. While the Intel one is 4mm, the Masscool one is 17mm. This traps and concentrates dust on the heatsink, preventing it from cooling properly.

Other Thoughts: This thing has been a huge pain in the neck. I wouldn't recommend it unless you like taking things apart and cleaning them on a regular basis (I don't!).

5 out of 5 eggsBetter than stock HSF

Pros: Smaller than the stock P4 HSF that was in my wife's machine, brought the temps down by 10°. Idle temp was 57° and now it's in the low 40°'s. Put this in the wifes P4 3GHz Gateway system.

Cons: Intel's push pin design.

Other Thoughts: Works great, thinking I should have considered a HSF with a back plate since I had to take the SysBoard out anyway. But this works as expected.
