5 out of 5 eggsGood cooler

Pros: Solid construction, and the mechanism to attach it to the MB is well engineered and rugged. I also like that it came with thermal grease.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I wish I had before-and-after core temps, but this was a replacement for a failed fan. Now the cores are running in the mid-30's, which I'm very happy with. (Core i5 Sandy Bridge)

4 out of 5 eggsGood Product

Pros: I've owned Masscool CPU Coolers before and have been quite pleased. Very secure mount to the motherboard (almost too secure, was afraid I might crack the board) with screws and backing plate.

Cons: These aren't really cons but something to think about:

After about 6 months of constant use on auto setting its developed a small hum which gradually gets louder as it spins about 25% faster. It's becoming quite noticeable now and I'm looking to replace.

Had a little trouble with installation, mainly due to the fact the backing plate pins do not stick out quite as far on the motherboard as previous Masscool coolers. However, taking it slowly I was able to secure it without problem, but be careful you don't crack your board!

Other Thoughts: Good product but beware of fan making some noises if you're unlucky with the ball bearing.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid replacement cooler

Pros: Solid construction, runs quiet, easy to install. Really that's all there is to day for the price you really can't beat it. Only thing for novices to note is that you have to remove the stick on the base and apply compound.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsExtremely easy to install!!

Pros: As the title implies "Extremely easy to install". I have been building computers for about 10 years and have to say that this cooler was one of the easiest to install. Just 4 screws and you are you done. Also the price was excellent at only $14 compared other $30-40 coolers.

Cons: Nothing seems to come to mind.

Other Thoughts: Use this with an i5 3470 and it rocks. Keeps my cpu at a really cool temperature. For the price I really cannot ask for anything more. The biggest reason for the purchase is the profile of the heat sink. It does not get in the way of my memory or any other heat sink on my mobo.

2 out of 5 eggsFan Died

Pros: When it worked, it worked well.

Cons: Fan died after about 6 months of usage. That being said, I was folding 24/7 so the fan, once installed, was never shut off – until its untimely demise. I liked the rest of the HS so much that I replaced the dead fan with an old fan I had on hand. Two minor modifications with the Dremel and BAM, back in business.

Other Thoughts: 2 eggs because I liked the unit as a whole. At $13 it was a win for me either way. Bearings went out in the fan. The one I replaced it with is still going strong though. With a better quality fan, they could charge upwards of $20.

2 out of 5 eggsNot quite worth it

Pros: Easy install and worked great for the first few months.

Cons: Was always a little loud. After a few months started rattling extremely loudly but was able to tap it to quiet it down. After 8 months it totally quit on me. Would just stop running and finally never started back up again.

Other Thoughts: For $13 it's whatever, but this time I am just springing for a slightly higher quality fan.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks For Me

Pros: 4-wire PWM fan that works with my Asus P8H77-I mini-ITX motherboard (but see cons).

All 4 mounting screws fit perfectly on this motherboard (LGA1155 cpu socket).

This mounting method is much more secure (my opinion) compared to "push pins". Perhaps that bias comes from many years using AMD CPUs and their very strudy mounting method. Honestly, I like a CPU fan that is so securely mounted to the motherboard that I can pick up the entire assembly via the CPU fan mounting (not a good idea, but it demonstrates what I mean by "secure mounting"). That is much better than having "push pin" mounted CPU fans that seem to be loose or come apart from the motherboard.

Cons: Springs are very stiff. Securing the fan to the motherboard takes some effort, almost enough effort to worry me.

As other reviewers have noted, this fan can get loud at full speed.

Backplate is thick and can cause interference is securing motherboard to case. Also, backplate is fairly stiff and may interfere with underside components, especially on mini-ITX motherboards.

Other Thoughts: The lowest speed I could get out of this fan was ~1000 rpm.

this fan seems to be one of the very very few CPU fans for LGA1155 sockets that uses screws and not "push pins" to secure the fan assembly to the motherboard. It is also one of the very very few "aftermarket" CPU fans for Intel CPUs that does not require additional bracket mountings on the top surface of the motherboard (a design mainly used with CPU fans that have spring-clip-tab mountings similar to AMD-style CPU fans).

I would definitely consider buying this fan again if I had the need, but I would carefully consider the potential "noise factor" if the intended use is a HTPC application ("silence really is golden" in a HTPC setup).

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as promised.

Pros: This is a solid, cheap replacement if your stock fan breaks or you just plain don't like it. Not super quiet but not any louder than my previous fan. Not much more to say.

Cons: This type of mount requires you to remove your motherboard and screw the fan to it. If you prefer the push pins don't buy this.

1 out of 5 eggsLasted a Month...

Pros: Was nice and quiet while it worked...

Cons: Started grinding after just over a month any time the CPU fell to idle. For a while it would be ok if the CPU was under load, and then the fan just started grinding non-stop.

Manufacturer took forever to get back to me on an RMA, left messages on their tech support voice mail four times and then caledl Newegg directly and complain and even then it still took over a week before I heard anything.

Still waiting for said replacement to show up, too...
