  • 5500 RPM
  • 5.4 CFM
ICON Loading...

Spire's Chip Cooler is designed for efficient cooling of your motherboard's chipset or video chipset. The compact 40mm fan can fit perfectly into smaller spaces a normal case won't work in. The 4,500rpm, sleeve-bearing fan, which is ideal for vertical mounting, is rated at an operational sound level of only 23dB, so very little additional noise will be added to your PC. A simple connection to a standard 2-pin fan port on your motherboard or graphic card with 2-pin power port are all that's needed for power.

  • newegg Extra Quiet The 40mm Spire 3A09S2 works at a whisper-quiet 23 dBA.
  • newegg High Reliability The sleeve bearing fan promises up to 30,000 hours of operating time for impressive levels of reliability.

4 out of 5 eggsIts a heaksink and fan.

Pros: Couldn't use the heatsink(see Cons) but I was able to use the fan on my current heatsink no problem, so don't throw way your old heatsink! I bought this to replace my northbridge and it does its job, its small and quiet.

Cons: The heatsink did not fit my mobo, seems to me that the mounts are kind of strange but maybe they just decided to lean toward another standard.

Other Thoughts: Even if you can't use the heatsink the whole kit is so cheap you can only use the fan and toss the the HS and not care.

3 out of 5 eggsUmmm

Pros: It is a fan.

Cons: Does not move much air at all.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to use as a GPU cooler just to try it out. It keeps it a little cooler than no fan at all but not by much.
I may use it as a NB cooler, the holes line up for that on my MoBo

5 out of 5 eggsGreat 40mm Fan

Pros: Moves more than an adequate volume of air. Seems more quiet than the 23 dBA spec. Has the hard to find 2-pin female connector needed for some motherboards. I only needed the fan with the 2-pin connector, so the heatsink was free at this price.

Cons: Just received and installed it. It seems more than adequate and time will tell. It is a sleeve bearing fan, which I understand will not last like a ball bearing fan. But I could not find one of those in this size with either a 2-pin connector, or with a 3-pin connector plus a 3-pin to 2-pin adaptor.

Other Thoughts: I put this on my GA-SINXP1394 Northbridge chip which came with a heat sink and a fan that was mounted with screws torqued down between the HS fins. I unscrewed this new fan from the HS it comes with, and replaced the original fan. This new fan is more quiet, and moves more air.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great, easy fit

Pros: Fit my xfx nvidia fx2 board perfectly, orientates the same way as the xfx cooler did.

Cons: The polarity was reversed in the plug, on the origional the positive was where the negative was on this fan, though with a quick flip of the plastic socket that was on the board it worked good.

Other Thoughts: Seems to be keeping everything cool though I wouldn't use it on anything that generates a huge ammount of heat. The cooling fins are TINY, like no deeper than a penny is thick.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Low cost fan. Pushes plenty of air for its size. Worked great on an old computers chipset heatsink.

Cons: The length of the power wire is somewhat small, it was pulled pretty tight to reach the connector on the motherboard. Also not your typical 2 pin connector (as far as motherboard connectors are concerned, but it still works.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent for the price

Pros: Nice and quiet. Good for the price.

Cons: After installing my gpu temperature has gone up 10 to 20 degrees celsius. It works fine, but I wouldn't recommend it for overclocking, or for a graphics card that pumps out a lot of heat.

Other Thoughts: I bought this because my 9600xt's fan was going out, and I really don't really want a new gfx card right now.
Turns out my gfx cards power connector is not normal sized. I had to manually cut the wire to get it to plug in right. ATI's fault not the fan's fault.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Price

Pros: Price

Cons: Two pin connector does not fit most motherboards.

Other Thoughts: Chipset fans on older boards are failing these days and this is a good replacement. This fan is quiet and gets the job done.

5 out of 5 eggsGood little fan

Pros: Quiet, good value. Heatsink has thermal tape in case your board doesn't have the right mounting holes.

Cons: none really

Other Thoughts: Having read the other reviews, I was prepared for the adapter and mounting brackets not fitting. I shaved-off the locking mechanism on the connector and was able to connect it to my mainboard for my northbridge. Had to mount it rotated 45 degrees but I think it looks cool that way. Connector fit perfectly on my GPU board, but had to remove the heatsink that came with it and screw the fan directly to the old heatsink. Luckily, the fan is stand-alone, unlike other chipset fans I have seen.

5 out of 5 eggsgood fan but wrong connector

Pros: great price

Cons: connector was wrong, but still a good price made the effort worth it.

Other Thoughts: I needed one for a northbridge heat sink but I didn't realize the fan I replaced also had the third tach wire. Also replaced a graphics card fan. Why do they use so many different shapes and sizes for the connectors??? I had to splice the old connectors to the new fans.
