CORSAIR CAFA50 120mm CPU Cooler

  • 1,600 - 2,000 RPM
  • 50 - 61 CFM
  • Aluminum & Copper
ICON Loading...

Excessive heat is the deadly enemy of high-performance silicon, and the Air Series A50 CPU cooler can extend the lifetime of your CPU by quietly and efficiently drawing that heat away.

The superior engineering of the Air Series A50 makes it dramatically outperform your CPU’s stock heatsink: three 8mm copper heatpipes directly contact your CPU and instantly pull heat up into the aluminum cooling fins. A 120mm fan, mounted on rubber studs to reduce noise and vibration, quietly draws cool air through the fins.

  • newegg Superior Air-cooling Performance Three 8mm U-shaped copper direct-contact heatpipes go through the aluminum fins and meet at the base of the heatsink where they are in direct contact to the CPU, delivering optimal heat collection and dissipation ratio.
  • newegg 120mm Fan with Selectable Speeds The easy-to-install, low-noise, low-vibration 120mm fan offers two speed options, allowing you to select the cooling performance you want.
  • newegg Universal Socket Compatibility The Corsair A50 includes mounting brackets for Intel LGA775/1366/1156 and AMD socket AM2/AM3 motherboards.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well, minus stock fan

Pros: Finally had the chance to install with AMD A10-5700 Trinity APU. I replaced stock 120mm fan with Noctua PWN 120mm. At 80% min fan speed, the A50 with the Noctua fan is able to keep my APU at 35C at full load! The motherboard never needs to kick up the fan speed because it stays under 40C. This is an amazing heatsink with the Noctua because its dead silent.

Cons: The stock 120mm fan with low voltage cable installed was still a bit loud. The Noctua fan I installed made this thing perform very well and silent.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: -I have yet to see my CPU temp get above 56 C, and that was while running Prime 95.
-With a rebate it was 10 dollars. Super cheap but high quality.
-Pretty easy install, even though Intel likes to make fan installs difficult
-Large fan size makes it really quiet. No need for the speed limiter, it's much quieter than my PSU and video card fans.

Cons: None so far!

Other Thoughts: This is an very large cooler so check if it will fit in your case before you buy it. I have a monster size case and it fit in mine with plenty of clearance, but if you have a small case or a MicroATX mobo, you may run into issues with it getting in the way of your opposite case side or RAM slots.

I have been using this cooler since July. I'm running a Core i5-3570k with BIOS on high performance settings. This is the best $10 I have ever invested in my computer. (which I am super protective of)

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not fit 1155 sockets

Pros: Big and keeps things cool

Cons: Is not designed for an 1155 socket as advertised. You can get it in, but I'm not comfortable sliding the pegs between slots the way you need to.

Even with the resistor cable the fan was still noisier than I would have liked.

Other Thoughts: Be careful if your memory has heat sinks. It was very difficult to get both the memory and this CPU cooler in at the same time on my GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD5H-WB motherboard.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat cooler, great value

Pros: Does what it's supposed to. Mounting instructions (if needed) are not that bad. If you can't read, the pictures show you what to do!! Keeps my 3570 idle at 21C and 45C at 4.00ghz prime 95 for 4 hours.

Cons: I knocked off one egg b/c the stock fan that came with the unit is garbage. It was noisy and only ran in 2 speeds. To run it at lower speed, you need to install included in line resistor. Get a decent PWM fan.

Other Thoughts: Besides the stock fan, the unit is great and keeps my cpu very cool. This is a large cooler, so make sure you do your homework and size it up before you purchase it.

5 out of 5 eggsInteresting

Pros: Noticable difference on CPU temperature. was 76 degrees C with stock cooler on full load with BF3 running on Maximum everything (or ultimate)
Now max temperature reached was 58-64. I was shocked intel sends such a sub-par fan and heatsink. Especially considering this only cost me 15 bucks! GO CORSAIR Rebates

Cons: Size. It fit in my case barely.
Fugly factor: Wow its terrible looking :P but considering it gets the job done and isnt a complete eye soar.
Instructions. My my what a useless set of instructions. Missing steps: 4 steps missing that are not even listed

Other Thoughts: Install the fan first on the fan and put in your case to get a good size and room capacity. Its not tiny but not nearly as big as others. Will work on i7-2600 and 2700K so great choice for 15 bucks. It also comes with thermal compound but i mean who is going to use that when you got choices like Arctic Silver 5, Noctua and MX come on guys do not be too cheap and get some of the good stuff its your cpu its worth it. yes that sounded like a make up tutorial on youtube but for important computer matters.

2 out of 5 eggsThis is large, and note the orientation!

Pros: Looks cool, likely will keep your CPU cool.

Cons: Large and tall. Especially tall! Did not fit in my two cases.

The fan blows parallel to the line between the two clip anchors on the AM2 socket. With my two motherboards, that would have had it blow to the top of the case rather than the back where my exhaust is.

4 out of 5 eggsCool, quiet, inexpensive - and HUGE

Pros: On and amd 9950 (2.4GHz) quad running at 100% for 10 minutes it never got above 33c. That was at the 2100 rpm setting. I switched it to the 1600 rpm setting (as shown on my machine) and the results were the same. Ambient temp was about 16c. It's pretty quiet, too. And very reasonably priced, especially if you can get it on sale.

It installs easily. It comes with hardware for an intel board but is ready to go for amd.

Cons: It's only a 3 wire fan so you can't control the temperature. And it is very, very big. Make sure you measure your case before buying it.
