The SCKTN-2000 Katana II by Scythe has several cutting edge technologies to help you battle excess CPU heat. Its trio of heatpipes use Oval Fin Contact Structure when increases the surface area between the 6mm copper pipe and the aluminum heat fins to improve heat transfer.

The convection fins are mounted in a downward slanting position so that the over 42 CFM of airflow through the fins also cools adjacent components on the motherboard. The fan utilizes long-lasting sleeve bearings for extended, reliable service and operates at a mere 22 dBA at its maximum 1500 RPM – delivering a ninja-quiet experience.

The fan can be replaced with any other 25mm thick 100mm fan desired for maximum customization. The Katana II can be oriented in any position with its copper base on the heatspreader of the CPU for maximum versatility and effectiveness. It provides cooling support for LGA 775 or Socket 478 Intel processors as well as AMD Athlon 64 K8 CPUs.

  • newegg Complete Cooling Solution The innovative Oval Fin Contact Structure (OFCS) maximizes contact area between the aluminum fins and copper heatpipes for highly-efficient heat dissipation, plus a 100mm, 1500RPM cooling fan providing a complete cooling solution for the CPU and other components.
  • newegg Universal Socket Compatibility The Scythe SCKTN-2000 features broad compatibility with AMD socket 754, 939, 940, and AM2 platforms, as well as Intel socket 478 and LGA 775 platforms.

4 out of 5 eggsForgot something.

Pros: Forgot to mention that the load temps were 40c in warm weather. It stay around 33-34 idle in 26c room temp.

Cons: Stated below.

Other Thoughts: Careful with the pushpins or you may break them because of the size. Due to un-mounting and re-mounting I had to salvage a pushpin from my cpu's default heatsink.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty nice.

Pros: Great cooling even in warmer weather tempetures. I'm currently in a small room right now so the heat builds up quickly (I have a room fan to keep in managable, haha.). Generally It'll keep it at 40c which might seem hot, but my room is also 28c on warm day. Cooler days it wont budge past 30 and i've had it down to 25c in the winter.

Cons: BIG. I really like that it cools well, but I dislike the fact that the case I have makes it very difficult to mount. Unless you have small hands or very dexterous I wouldn't recomend putting it in a anything other than a big case.

Other Thoughts: Wish it came with a fan control.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat heatsink

Pros: great heatsink, absolutely overkill for the BE-2350 I have, but it was at a sale price and had free postage.

Cons: CPU runs too cold to cook bacon on, must use a frying pan on the stove instead. Running folding at home at the moment and sitting about 40C. No complaints.

Other Thoughts: Wasn't the easiest install job on an AM2 board, but didn't take longer than a few minutes. I didn't use the heatsink goop that came with it, but then I never do.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat product

Pros: Installed this on a Q9300 with a DP45SG motherboard. Everything went together easy, and is working well. Keeps CPU temp in around 30 - 35C, only running at 1350RPMs.

Cons: Angeled shape makes it a little awkward to put the screws in the base. As always have to be careful snapping the push pins in place.

Other Thoughts: This makes the 5th Scythe heatsink I've purchased from newegg. Each one has worked great for the price. Definitely can tell a difference as well if you use Arctic Silver as well.

4 out of 5 eggsbetter then your oem heatsink

Pros: decent size heat-sink with fan, great for the price, also great for beginners. a solid 6 pipe design with a copper base. plenty of room to work with.

Cons: none really, although you have to use the original fan that come with it. so you can go any bigger then a 100mm fan.

Other Thoughts: great product, great price, owned it for a few months ago before i decided to give it away.

3 out of 5 eggsGood When Working

Pros: It cools our Q6600's very well and makes almost no noise.

Cons: My second purchase on this cooler had problems with high core temps. After looking things over we removed the cooler to discover the bottom heat plate fell right off. Returning it for another one soon.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: I installed this on an MSI K9N SLI-F 570LT motherboard with an AMD 9550 2.2Ghz quadcore processor. I decided to test it. I opened call of duty 4, rainbow 6 vegas 2, need for speed prostreet, PURE, halo 2, and started burning a dvd... I still didnt get close to loading the CPU so I opened crysis warhead, lego batman, Turok, and jericho. After i had a higher useage of the processor I opend MSI system monitor. The CPU was running great with a temp of 32C, I tried everything, and the cooler was exceeding my expectations

Cons: This cooler is pretty big, you will need at least 7 inches of room in your case.

Other Thoughts: Easy install, and quiet.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat hsf

Pros: - very smooth/shiny base
- many fins
- very quiet (can hear hdd for the first time)
- cheap
- well built
- can be mounted in four directions
- looks cool
- in the manual it says you can mount any size fan up to 120mm so long as it is 25mm thick

Cons: i don't know how good the thermal paste is that came with this HSF is... never put it on (i ordered ocz freeze off of newegg)

Other Thoughts: wow this is the best bang for buck out there.... at the moment i have this on a 65 watt CPU with a $8 coolermaster hsf that was around 50*c before being lapped and 46 after (in low 60's while gaming) the katana 2 took it down to an idle of 30*C and about 32* under load. In about two weeks im going to have this cooling a 125 watt phenom
