Scythe offers high end features and performance at value prices. The MUGEN-2 SCMG-2000 has options found on many more expensive coolers. The four-sided high-density aluminum fins offers installation for 4 fans if you need, which will maximize its heat dissipation. It has 4 large exposed pure copper heatpipes at its nickel-plated copper base which has direct contact with the CPU for efficient thermal conduction.

Designed to attach easily to the motherboard of all Intel LGA1366, 775, Socket 478 and AMD Socket AM2, AM2+, 940, 939, and 754 CPUs, the MUGEN-2 SCMG-2000 is ready to go right out of the box. No tools are required, nor do you have to remove the motherboard The low noise cooler radiates a maximum of 26.5dB so it will be barely noticeable in your system. It is a great choice for overclockers!

  • newegg Superior Heat Dissipation and Cooling Performance The copper base and 5 copper heatpipes conduct heat fast; high-density and innovative designed nickel-plated copper fins maximize heat dissipation area, plus a 120mm 1200PRM sleeve bearing fan to deliver optimal cooling performance.
  • newegg Universal Compatibility and Reliable Installation The latest developed F.M.S.B. (Flip Mount Super Back-Plate) improves the compatibility of the Mugen 2 cooler, which is compatible with all the current sockets, including the new Intel Socket LGA 1366. Plus the new system supplies a back plate mounting set for more stable installation.
  • newegg New Designed Fan Mount Structure The new design enables it possible to mount the supplied fan in four different directions. So the user can arrange the air flow at will without taking the whole CPU cooler off the motherboard. A total number of 4 fans can be mounted for the maximum performance.
  • newegg Multiple Airflow Pass-Through Structure The new lamellar structure realizes the airflow generated by the Scythe Slip Stream being used completely and perfectly.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing for Sandy Bridge

Pros: Cooler does an amazing job on my 2600k. It is idling right now at 29C! I have it OC'd @ 4.3GHz, and under load it barely goes into the 50's. Soooo much better temperatures than my last i7 s1366.

Cons: I suppose the size.

Other Thoughts: The fan on the heatsink is only about 1 inch from my 5870, but there is plenty of clearance on top, so I don't think it really affects the air flow. The CPU is cool, so not an issue.

5 out of 5 eggsQuiet and Effective Cooling

Pros: Nearly silent
Effective Cooling

OEM hsf ~ 65C at sustained load (and loud)
Mugen 2 ~ 59C at sustained load (but nearly silent)

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I purchased this to replace the OEM hsf that accompanied my wife's Phenom II 1100T. I was tired of the noise. I'm running stock clock speeds, but I wanted quiet cooling. This did exactly what I needed.

Note: This had no problem clearing G Skill Ripjaws RAM on a Gigabyte 870A-UD3 mobo. Take the time to install this hsf carefully using quality thermal compound and you won't be disappointed.

3 out of 5 eggsCauses MB to short out!

Pros: Its a great cooler, kept my rig below 70C (2.4GHz Q66 over clocked to 3.6GHz) at full load.

Cons: With my motherboard (ASUS P5Q Pro Turbo) there were leads on the back (CPU capacitors I believe) that poked through the foam insulation and caused a short on the metal bracket. I don't know why they would make the back bracket out of metal... I guess for stability, but it causes my mother board to short out and locks up my whole system.

Other Thoughts: Too bad, becuase before the foam split it did an amazing job of keeping my cpu cool. I'm selling it off to a friend with a 1366 board hopefully he has more luck with it than I did.

4 out of 5 eggsThe BEST, for your money. Truse Me

Pros: Large surface area for cooling.

Compatible with all CPU's, and comes with all hardware for mounting.

Excellent cooling, fits fine in my case (Antec Three Hundred)

X4 955be @ 3.7ghz stock voltage - Loaded -55C
After Mugen -47C

These are temps from 40 min Prime95 at 3.7ghz stock volts.

Cons: ENORMOUS. I know that to get an efficient performing heatsink it's got to be big. So this wasn't so much of an issue for me.

If you have a case with a top mounted P/S, it's going to be even trickier to mount. I have an Antec ThreeHundred with bottom mount P/S and this install was no sweat.

Remove the board
Remove stock AMD back plate.
Apply Thermal Paste. Test for coverage.
Mount HS to top of CPU socket.
Reach under Mobo with free hand while holding HS inplace, and put one screw in finger tight.
Now, put a screw in the other side of the HS, finger tight.

Now flip it over, and tighten like a set of lug nuts.

Other Thoughts: i'd buy it again. But it's really quite large. (approx. 5" x 6")

Don't expect to hit 4GHz on Air with this and a phenom II and stay under 60C. I hit 57 several times with this only running 3.85GHz $ 1.41v , which is my personal cut-off.

It's just not "real world" I am sure there are some cases where folks have hit this, but after much testing I doubt you could run higher than 3.75Ghz, on air, reliably, without dealing with minor lockups, etc.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Cooler

Pros: Keeps my Athlon x4 2.6 @3.25 idle @ 20 and never has got above 36 on load.

Cons: You would need a decent sized case to fit this in.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Excellent, very quite and cools well.

Cons: had to change my OCZ reapers for the G.skill once because they did not fit.

Other Thoughts: other than the fact you have to remove the motherboard to install (like most coolers) it was an easy install

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Well, Cheap

Pros: It keeps my i7 920 cool. It was cheap

Cons: It was a lot harder to install than I expected. I ended up having to put it on a different board though, and once you know what you're doing its easy. Just figuring out what to do is hard.

Other Thoughts: If you know what you're doing this is probably the best value cooler out there.

5 out of 5 eggsMassive heatsink

Pros: Very efficient heatsink. It has adaptors for a large variety of CPU sockets.

Cons: The side-mounted fan won't clear some memory sticks. The heatsink is very large, and its size does need to be taken into consideration during a build. It's also a bit of a pain to install.

Other Thoughts: Other than its sheer size, it's incredibly efficient and it does its job very well!

5 out of 5 eggsVery cool...

Pros: My Phenom IIx4 965 idles at 22°C! This thing works like a charm! The fan is extremely quiet, although I doubt I could hear it over the others I have in the case. Installation was only hampered by the shear size of this thing, but nothing too difficult, and totally worth it.

Cons: Hmm... the size? Yep, make sure you have a case big enough to fit this beast.

Other Thoughts: I was originally going to use liquid cooling on my CPU, but this thing does just as good of a job for a mere fraction of the cost/hassle.
