Kabuto is the decorative helmet of Japanese samurai and continues the number of successful Top Flow CPU Coolers from Scythe. The M.A.P.S. Heatpipe Structure which is already known by Mugen 2 enables optimal efficiency of the Slip Stream 120mm PWM fan.

  • newegg Top Mount Fan The Slip Stream 120mm PWM fan mounted on top of the cooler is suited both to transport the heat of the CPU cooler away and to cool down sensitive components of the mainboard. PWM function automatically adjusts fan speeds according to the CPU temperature for efficient cooling and minimized fan noise.
  • newegg M.A.P.S. (Multiple Pass-Through Airflow Structure) The newly developed M.A.P.S. (Multiple Airflow pass-through structure) is a completely new fin structure, where the airflow generated by the Scythe Slip Stream 120 mm PWM fan can be used perfectly. With 6 copper heatpipes conducting heat efficiently, the Scythe SCKBT-1000 offers superior heat dissipation and cooling performance.
  • newegg 4-Way Mounting and Intel i7 Compatible By orientating the fixing holes of the mounting clips in a square, you can mount the heatsink in four different ways. The Scythe SCKBT-1000 is compatible with Intel LGA1366 processors including Intel Core i7 Processor Extreme Edition Series and 9xx Series, as well as Intel LGA1156/775/478 and AMD Socket AM3/AM2+/AM2/940/939/754 processors.

5 out of 5 eggsCools my 3-core great!

Pros: my temps are now 10 lower than with the stock cooler, cools really great!

Cons: BE CAREFUL. if you have ramsticks that come with heatsinks, it may or may not touch this cooler, mine barely did.

Other Thoughts: It really is a great cooler for matx size cases. I would buy it again.

5 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: 120 mm PWM fan, cool, and quiet, temps are easily 5 degrees lower. Tall enough that it hangover my ram but doesn't block the slots.

Cons: A bit large, installation a bit difficult, heavy.

Other Thoughts: The secret to easily installing it is that you can adjust the height of the clips to latch on easier by pulling them off the mount then pushing them back in on the notch that works for you. Since one side is taller than the other, the clips will be at different heights. Hope this helps.

1 out of 5 eggsCPU OVERHEATS

Pros: quiet

Cons: At idle, my STOCK i7 930 is at ~35C, which is fine, but under maximal load (which is what CPUs should be able to run at 24/7, except under unusual environmental temperatures and/or poor cases/poor ventilation) it will reach 90C+ in less than 10 minutes (this is using OCCT or Linpack). This is obviously unacceptable. Your first assumption is that the ventilation is poor inside my case, but this is incorrect-- I have 1 120mm front fan, 1 120 mm top fan, 1 120mm rear fan, and 1 240mm side fan on my stock Rosewill Cruiser case. I have all fans running at MAX/100% all the time.

My bro's OC'd to 3.77GHz e6500 under the same tests, and in a case with MUCH worse airflow, will max out at ~65C with the stock intel cooler that came with the e2100.

5 out of 5 eggsNICE COOLER

Pros: So far so good. Keeps CPU cool like its supposed to.

Cons: Not really a con, but i fought and fought to get this cooler to hook on the motherboard. After about 10 attempts i finally got it hooked on where i felt it was secure enough and not going to fall off.

4 out of 5 eggsWOW

Pros: Moves a ton of air and keeps cpus really cool.

Cons: next to imposible to install. Took me 30 minutes at least to put this on my mobo. Its kind of giant, but its not really a con. Just make sure you have enough room. It hangs over my ram. they still fit though

Other Thoughts: Its worth it.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great heat sink, works like it should, I would get temps at max with regular i7 cooler close to 100C, now max is only around 70C in a warm room. Does what it is suppose too, plus its very quiet didn't even hear it.

Cons: None really, but if you were going to be picky, would have loved to have a fluid dynamic bearing fan vs the sleeve bearing it came with.

Other Thoughts: When I first booted up the system the motherboard fan alarm went off, dont be scared, you can set the fan a little higher. The fans RPM minimum is around 180rpm, so the sensor goes off, its cooling like it should just turn off the sensor for alarm or set the fan to run at higher rpm.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent cooler

Pros: Huge cooler but not in the way of anything that I have.I was able to face it any way that I wanted.
Cools ex. 25 C or 78 F while on the internet. Good quality, sturdy. Very happy with this cooler.
I like this cooler alot!!!

Cons: hangs over ram a little, but plenty of room for my G.Skill ripjaws series ram.

Other Thoughts: I would change my ram selection to be able to use this cooler, it's that good.
System: gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P MOBD
G.Skill ripjaws DDR3 1600 ram 2x3=6 gb running at 1333.
AMD AM3 965 140 watt. CPU

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very good cooling
Quality Scythe Construction(I did not use the pushpins I bought the back plate)
Fan is silent at 7V(never tested at 12V).

Temps are around 57C with the fan at 7V running prime95 with a q9650 at stock.

Cons: Size...depending on the case. I had issues with this and a silverstone TJ08. Had to remove the fan to install the motherboard tray then reinstall the fan.

Other Thoughts: Funny story...I'm using stock settings for my q9650(motherboard sucks at overclocking...) and I decided to test the heatsink with prime95. I load it up and I'm viewing the temps in hardware monitor. The temps hit 77C and stabalize...I'm like...Ok... so I open my case to see if the heatsink is hot (for contact purposed and then I see that the fan isn't running...It came unplugged when I was putting the system together. So, I imagine you could use this heatsink passively for a quad at stock settings (maybe even i7?)

4 out of 5 eggsPretty good

Pros: Awesome cooler. Fan blows downward, helps to keep the rest of the goodies on your motherboard cool. Keeps my 965BE at about 44C under full load @4Ghz. It's big & quiet. Shouldn't block anything on most motherboards, the actual heatsink part has good clearance due to the heat pipes. The bottom of the heatsink is well finished with a mirror shine.

Cons: The AMD cpu clips are impossibly hard to get on! I don't know why they made it so hard, other scythe clips have been really easy but not these. If you have a skinny case, this is going to probably end up being really close to your side panel which may hurt it's airflow.

Other Thoughts: Wish it came with something other than a sleeve bearing fan on it, I've never had good luck with sleeve bearing fans. The specs on this fan aren't bad but I will probably change the fan in the near future (as long as i can do it without taking it off the socket). Even with the difficulty on getting this installed, I'd still recommend it. This cooler is miles ahead of any stock HSF, it was about a 10C drop in the cpu temps at stock speeds under load.
