The third edition of the Ninja CPU cooler comes along with a revised high-performance design. Ninja 3 CPU cooler has eight u-shaped heat pipes and the optimized fin structure named as M.A.P.S. (Multiple Airflow Pass-Through Structure). The airflow generated by the Scythe Slip Stream 120 PWM Adjustable fan can effectively cool the heatsink. You can choose the fully automatic PWM feature fan speed control or alternatively adjust the PWM band range for tuning purposes. Several features make this cooler the perfect solution for silent users and overclockers! F.M.S.B.2 back-plate system provides a safe cooler mounting, guaranteed.

  • newegg M.A.P.S. (Multiple Airflow Pass-through Structure) The developed M.A.P.S. (Multiple Airflow pass-through structure) is a completely new fin structure, where the airflow generated by the Scythe Slip Stream 120 PWM Adjustable fan can be used perfectly. By using the M.A.P.S. in combination with eight high-performance heatpipe design, Ninja 3 fanless performance could be improved up to 7% compared with the former model.
  • newegg F.M.S.B.2 (Flip Mount Super Back-Plate 2) Improved version of F.M.S.B (Flip Mount Super Back-Plate) ensures maximized compatibility while mounting the cooler onto the motherboard more solidly. Scythe Ninja 3 provides broad socket compatibilities for AMD (Socket AM3/AM2+/AM2/940/939/754) & Intel (LGA 1156/1366/ 775) platforms.
  • newegg Slip Stream 120 mm PWM Adjustable Fan Equipped with Scythe original Slip Stream PWM 120mm PWM Adjustable fan, the Scythe Ninja 3 allows you to choose the fully automatic PWM feature fan speed control or alternatively adjust the PWM band range.

5 out of 5 eggsstill awesome! follow-up review

Pros: still working like a charm

Cons: absolutely none

Other Thoughts: this is kind of a follow up review. i wrote a review on the cooler a few months ago. i was using it on a phenom 2x2 555BE OC'd to 3.7GHz and it was keeping load temps at about 31-32C. i finally decided to try and unlock my cpu and am glad to say all 4 cores are stable :) so now i am using this on the same chip but X4 B55 OC'd to 4.09GHz@1.4v and my load temps havent gone above 47C, so for the price of this cooler you cant go wrong!

5 out of 5 eggsMassive

Pros: Could cool the hottest cpus with out a fan
very well balanced and the mounting system it comes with is very able to deal with the weight of the unit

Cons: MASSIVE if you have a small case forget about this cooler...

Other Thoughts: Over all i like the quality of the cooler i was a bit worried about fitting it in the case but it managed to just fit as the toppers of the heat pipes come just short of the case side pannel...

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent cooler - just fit over Ripjaws

Pros: More than I needed, just wanted it. Is huge, very quiet. I really like the fan control knob. I can run at low range with PWM. This allows lower fan rpm and keeps things really quiet. If I want to step the fan range up, I can. See the 2 fan speed ranges on detail page in Newegg, it's really variably, not just 2 ranges. I really wanted a quite cooler with horsepower when I want it. This is an excellent answer.

Cons: Huge and just fit over the 16GB Ripjaws

Other Thoughts: Antec 300 case
Biostar TZ68A motherboard
Intel i5-2500K
G.skill Ripjaw X Series 16GB
Sythe Ninja 3 SCNJ-3000 120 mm
1 sythe fan, mounted on front blowing to back
fan is over the Ripjaws and does fit

4 out of 5 eggsninja is not that bad :D

Pros: The good thing about this product is that it drops the temprature for my Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition. It dropped it 21 degreees celcius! O.C. 4.00 GHz. The stock heats sync fan was 58c and it dropped the temperature the minute I had installed it 37c with O.C.

Cons: The only con a bout this product is that this product is something that you need to make sure you have enough room for it in your computer like. ATX Mid Tower Computer Case or . ATX Full Tower. I need to have good skills to install it and a lot of patients. Esepcially with mainting installation of the fan. For some reason after four days one of the blades on the fans snapped, I called technical support for help and they abosuletly did not help me with my product. Make sure you check everything for defects because its not a refundable product

Other Thoughts: I hope technical support would be a little bit better =( They were not useful at all! The good news is though, I talked to newegg and they might send me a new fan

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent heatsink

Pros: this thing is a beast, looks amazing, heavy, clips hold fan very tight, great temp drops

Cons: absolutely none

Other Thoughts: phenom 2 x2 555 OC'd to 3.7Ghz, idle temp 18-19C and 31-32 after 2 hours of prime95

4 out of 5 eggsWhat a Job!

Pros: This widget does the job as intended. Cool temps and great look. If you are contemplating at this thing make sure to have a case with a window to enjoy your work.

Cons: Make sure to have a case that this muster would fit. Installation was a job, it was time consuming. Instructions were somewhat ambiguous. The cooler is so bulky that installations of the first DIMM needs to be done before installing the cooler. The fan controller, I consider it an extra, it was not needed. Nevertheless, installation was easy.

5 out of 5 eggsA big fat silver ninja

Pros: Well designed, well made, and solid.
BIG
It comes with a fan with speed control. I use it on an i3 with no overclocking. The surface is always cool, even with no fan.
Use the fan turned down to slow speed and it will be absolutely silent. I mean late at night with your ear next to the fan quiet.

Cons: The instructions could be better.

I turned the cooler upside down on a desk, and lowered the mainboard to it while eyeing from the side. Do it once to make sure you get good contact with the compound over the entire surface, and then do it again to screw it together. screw it together watching the brackets. They will bend a little in their slot but make sure they do not bend too much. OK, if you read that we just eliminated to only con.

Other Thoughts: This is not my first ninja. I buy them because i hate noise and with one of these you can use a low velocity fan and everything stays cool.
imho scythe makes the best coolers.

5 out of 5 eggsVoluminous but cools well

Pros: 1. Acceptable instructions.
2. Assembly and installation not too difficult.
3. Solid attachment to MB.
4. Cools well.

Cons: Biggest con here is the 120mm depth (front to back dimension) of the Ninja 3. This means that the heat sink fan (HSF) is liable to be over the first two memory slots on most MBs. Memory coolers or sticks with finned heat sinks (Dominators, Ripjaws etc.) are therefore likely to pose a problem. Also, one may have to remove the HSF before getting at these sticks in the event of a memory upgrade or troubleshooting memory issues. Tried and true memory, with standard heat spreaders, would probably be your best bet with this CPU cooler.

Other Thoughts: READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. Anyone wishing for special tools or claiming that the fan speed control knob can’t fit through the expansion card cutout didn’t read the instructions. I’m glad that I didn’t see SirJamesDTech’s YouTube video review until after installing this cooler. Otherwise, I may not have bought it.

5 out of 5 eggsSilent but Deadly

Pros: I bought this because it is the highest surface area for the dollar I could find. Surface area is *the* main factor affecting heatsink performance. The beauty of this heatsink (other than the fact that it looks beautiful) is not that it will necessarily cool lower than others, but that it will do a perfectly adequate job completely silently. It keeps my Athlon x4 3Ghz < 50C under 100% load with the fan spinning at an absolutely silent (and when I say "silent" I mean it unlike some people who really should be saying "quiet") 500 or so Rpm. I installed the fan on the bottom blowing the hotair the way it naturally wants to go out the top vent. I like the fact that it is almost like a cube and the fan can go on any side.

Cons: Don't know why people give a bad rating for instalation difficulty. It should only be a onetime deal for most and it more than makes up for it in performance and reliability. I took the recommendation of laying the MB on top of it upside down. It also helps to have steady hands and line things up carefully. Some people are more suited to these tasks than others. It will probably fit in most mid towers, albeit tightly. Personally I think fancy thermal paste is way overrated (what difference is a couple degrees anyhow?) so I went stock on that.

Other Thoughts: The laws of physics mean that your temp is going to have to be significantly above room temperature no matter how big your heatsink is and how fast your fans are turning. No point in fighting it, especially when the chips are rated to 70+ They wouldn't rate them as such if they couldn't withstand this temp for years of service and who plans to use their computer for more than 10 years anyhow? I find it amusing how many seem to obssess over cooling but then seem eager to upgrade after just a couple of years for just a 20% or so performance boost (I know it's fun buying new things, but think of the environment). My rule is its not worth upgrading, unless you can at least double your performance (especially when you keep the environment in mind) though I just more than quadrupled my performance in my recent upgrade from my 8y old C. Any way, you're not imho getting hot till you hit 60C and up and you're still within the limit so why put up with a bunch of noise to just get a bit cooler?

5 out of 5 eggsOverkill, Great Buy, What else could you want

Pros: OK, it IS HUGE, but it fits, Antec 300 case, ASUS M4A87TD EVO MB, Gskill Ripjaws memory, Phenom II B60 at 3.8 GHz (mostly multiplier, Memory/NB and a little voltage). I did not order a 2nd fan, I oriented the fan to blow from the North Bridge to the 140mm fan, which is about an inch away on the top of the case. Running Prime 95 it, maintained 39 degrees. When I bumped the 140 to medium, it dropped to 38, and 37 on high.

For everything but stress testing, I run the cooler fan on the low range and never have to worry. There is a very slight sound increase on high, but it is not noticeable because my GPU is the loudest sound in the case.

I read a couple of reviews (not Newegg) that said that the base was not flat and even concave. Mine was absolutely flat and so smooth that I could not 'tin' the surface with AS-5.

Cons: The fan clips do a great job once they are in place, but you really need some small needle nose pliers (or right angle pliers) to replace the clips when the MB is inside the case.

The CPU power and fan connection are much easier to install before you re-install the MB, but it can be done if you don't plan.

Scythe should include a second set of clips. I hate paying more for shipping than an item actually costs. It just makes sense to throw a couple of clips on on a cooler that is advertised and reviewed as supporting multiple fans!

Other Thoughts: It took me longer to select the CPU cooler than it did to select any other component in my build. I eliminated the direct contact pipes units, because newer reviews seemed to favor solid bases, especially on 45 nm CPUs.

I like the multiple pipes in both directions to avoid hot spots. I wanted a cooler that had bulk and cheap fan capacity as apposed to fancy engineering.

The final two choices were the Ninja 3 and the Mugen 2, in the end it was a better fan, more and staggered heat pipes and looks for only $8 more. The cooling performance is more than I will ever need and at a mid range price!
