Incompatible with HD4850
- Pros: None.
- Cons: This thing couldn't be installed on my ATI HD4850. The screws weren't long enough. Also, the heat sinks for the memory chips didn't fit the chips.
- Other Thoughts: Despite being advertised as compatible with the ATI HD4850, it isn't. I will never buy a product from this manufacturer again.
Keeping it Cool
- Pros: Very quiet :)
- Cons: Installation is tricky and takes patience.
- Other Thoughts: My HIS HD4670 came with the IceQ Turbo fan which is very quiet. On this card it slows to almost noiseless because unlike most cards it idles at 3W and maxes at 40W. Nonetheless, this quiet fan was as audible as my Zalman CPU fan or my Noctua rear case fan so was still a bit of an irritation.
My GPU now idles 3C cooler than before and rarely goes above 40C. My situation is helped by a front case fan that sits only about 4" forward of the Accelero and blows a plume of air directly into the end of the Accelero.
The tricky part is the installation. The small screws have a fiber washer on the back of the board and a plastic spacer between the board and the Accelero. I ended up taping the screws in place, sitting the Accelero on top of them, then sliding the GPU board off the edge of the table exposing one screw, pulling the tape part way off, and starting the screw into heatsink. It took a few tries.
Does not fit advertised cards
- Pros: Lightweight assembly
Copper core
- Cons: Cheap "thermal tape" use to affix heat-sinks to memory means they will fall off at the slightest movement. Since you need to hold the card upside down the affix the cooler to it they will fall right off and get stuck in the grate of the heat-sink.
The screw holes do not fit the placement on an ATI 4850 despite being advertised for this card. ATI 4850 has more memory chips than this cooler is designed to fit, making it obvious that research was not done on these products.
- Other Thoughts: I wouldn't suggest you waste your time on this. The annoyance of a loud fan is not half as bad as the annoyances associated with installing this poorly designed cooler.
