Better go with the stock
- Pros: Keeps the computer running for lower cpu usage programs
- Cons: Video encoding made my computer blue screen, as I checked the CPU temperature, all cores were running at 61 degrees Celsius before blue screening. The win dump confirmed this. I replaced the fan with the stock cooler and this runs now at c.a 20 degrees cooler.
- Other Thoughts: Better go with a better model from Artic, top fans instead side-mounted fans.
It works
- Pros: It cools your chip.
- Cons: Doesnt cool very well at all. I bought this when I purchased my AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+. I was monitoring my temps while playing Farcry 2 and noticed my CPU was getting up to 66-67 celcius. That was borderline BAD. So I pulled it out and put in the stock one that came with my chip, and it doesnt get above 54 celcius under load.
- Other Thoughts: Dont buy this unless your running something small under 125w. Currently with my stock heatsink im running 42c with no load.
CPU Fans not working
- Pros: When it works, it keep the cpu cool, according to my computer. The fan itself is very hot and my computer has about 8 fans. Very simple install and used arctic thermal compound as intermediary between Athlon X2 processor and the heat sink. I use the computer with Linux mint and rarely use it for complex operations--that's what I use custom built computers for :-0 The computer itself is an HP piece of fertilizer (I didn't buy it), and their products seem to be deteriorating in quality anyway...
- Cons: Occasionally, my BIOS will return the message CPU fans not working (although they are) and shut down. Once it's in it makes it very hard to make other adjustments around the system. The heatsink is tangibly hot to the touch.
- Other Thoughts: I don't know if this is a defect or if it's just a quirk of the Mobo. I'm thirty six, build computers for people who cannot afford them; however, this was a newer mobo from a system less than a year old and the appropriate part for the system
