MX-2 is a high thermal conductivity and low thermal resistance compound for components that require optimum thermal dissipation. It is ideally suited for use in CPU, GPU cooling and other applications between power semiconductor components and heat sinks where thermal conductivity is a major factor.

  • newegg Maximizes Heat Transfer The high-performance Arctic cooling MX-2 thermal compound eliminates minute air gaps between the heat source and the heat sink caused by their uneven surfaces for the optimized heat transfer.
  • newegg Electrical Insulator Having no metal or any other conductive material, the Arctic cooling MX-2 thermal compound cannot result in any damage even when it contacts to electrical traces, pins and leads.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Got it for $8 with free shipping. Easy to spread and works fantastic, it dropped my CPU idle by 2*C.

Cons: None come to mind

Other Thoughts: The fact that it is non-electricity conductive is a plus. No more worrying about accidently getting it somewhere

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great thermal paste

Cons: Bought this on Jan 29, 2013 on a shell shocker deal for $12.99 but with a 12.99 rebate deal. As of May 8, still haven't received it, and now I see it's $7.99?! Wow thanks.

Other Thoughts: Don't promise a rebate if you're not going to honor it, I knew it was too good to be true. Didn't rate it 1 egg only because it is good thermal paste. I won't be buying anything with mail in rebates ever again.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Great thermal compound here from Arctic! Just applied it under my water block on my liquid cooled PC and it works great! Before this I was using the stock compound that came with the cooling solution. During stress tests on my OC'd AMD Phenom II x4 960t running 6 cores with a 700 MHz overclock, I was getting temps around 55-59c. After applying this and cleaning the pesky radiator of dust, I am running it at 98% load and getting a topped out temp of just 47c. Big difference. Definitely transfers heat better than the generic goo. I do like how it is non conductive. Means you don't have to worry if a little globs off on something while applying it. Plenty is included in the little syringe that you get. I think I'll have enough to do a few more heatsinks around the shop.

Cons: Do not get this stuff on your clothes or even your hands for that matter. I got some on my finger during application and had to scrub for about five minutes to get it off. Not really a con, just some need to know info. If it gets on you, use very hot water and dish soap that contains a degreasing agent and it come off.

Other Thoughts: According to the manufacturer, this compound is suppose to never harden or evaporate. Which is a good thing IMO. The last stuff that came on my TT Water 2.0 liquid cooler just kind of hardened to a crust and quit functioning all together. I noticed temps getting up into the high 50s and sometimes getting into the 60s. This is not supposed to happen with liquid coolers, or at least I don't like it to. When you pay that much for a liquid cooling unit, you expect it to perform better than normal air cooling. Partnered with this compound it work phenomenally! Would definitely recommend it for enthusiasts and just normal PC users alike. Just a quick tip, as someone brought me a PC to fix with cooling problems the other day. This was the problem. Someone globbed about a whole 3 gram tube of compound onto this guys CPU then installed the heatsink. Listen people a little dab will do ya! A thin layer is all that is needed. Almost ultra thin. As I learned from a friend, put a small dab on the center of the CPU, then slowly and carefully work it around the entire top of the processor. Then take a straight edge and scrape off all of the excess compound leaving a very thin layer. You only need enough to fill in all of the microscopic holes and imperfections between the CPU and heatsink. This will ensure a perfect bonded transfer of heat to your cooling solution. Works perfectly for me for every time I've installed, or in that case reinstalled, a HS/fan on a CPU.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works well enough

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I ended up using a bit too much on my first build, but that's totally my fault. It's cheap (price, not quality) and comes with plenty in the tube. Can't think of anything wrong with it and I'll most likely continue to use it in future builds.

5 out of 5 eggsThis is the stuff...

Pros: There may be more hi-tech compounds out there, but this stuff is tried and true. If the (much more expensive) fancier stuff works better, it's by a small enough margin not to justify the cost.

This stuff and a good sink with heat pipes and a high flow fan ought to solve most cooling needs.

Cons: It's not free?

Other Thoughts: I've built >10 rigs in the last 5 years and with the exception of a couple where the client asked specifically for a different compound, this is what I use. It just plain works.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Everything you need out of your thermal paste.

I bought some MX-2 two years ago and it worked flawlessly since then and I just grabbed another tube recently because of that. (between changing cpu coolers and using it on my friends rigs, i ran out haha)

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Have used it with a hyper 212+ and my current h80. Works great to help keep temps down.
