The Accelero Xtreme 7970 is precisely optimized for the world's first 28nm AMD 7900/7800 series GPUs and offers superior cooling performance in silence. No silent enthusiast or overclocker wants to miss this cooler.

  • newegg Superior Cooling Performance Featuring three 92mm PWM fans with a maximum cooling capacity up to 300 Watts, the Accelero Xtreme 7970 manages to transfer heat efficiently away from the GPU. Besides the 84-fin heatsink with 5 copper heatpipes, the pre-applied MX-4 thermal compound accelerates the heat dissipation process to ensure the VGA board is running under optimal temperature.
  • newegg Enhanced RAM and VR Cooling The Accelero Xtreme 7970 comes with the non-conductive G-1 thermal glue which is used to affix RAM and VR heatsinks on the VGA board. It is especially formulated to offer excellent thermal conductivity with long-lasting adhesiveness of over 10 years. Moreover, removing the G-1 is as easy as removing a thermal tape.
  • newegg Virtually Silent With three PWM-controlled 92 mm fans, the Accelero Xtreme 7970 cools efficiently and silently. Thanks to the PWM control, the fan spins according to the temperature of the GPU. This means that the fans just spin up if necessary and will rest at minimum speed otherwise. PWM settings can be modified to fix the priorities between performance and noise.
  • newegg CrossFire-Compatible Accelero Xtreme 7970 is compatible with the AMD CrossFire technology. It allows you to intelligently scale graphics performance by combining multiple AMD graphic cards on a single CrossFire-Certified motherboard. (The compatibility list is based on AMD Radeon's reference board layout only.)

1 out of 5 eggsNearly fried my HD7970

Pros: Fast shipping on Newegg's part.

Cons: Spent nearly four hours putting this on and once it had set for awhile we tried it out. My GPU temps were erratic and made my PC shut off each time booted up. Ended up cleaning the factory gpu fan (used new thermal gel) and put it back on only for everything to be fine. Followed the instructions closely and also watched some step by step videos on the internet on how to install. I can only assume I received a defective one.

1 out of 5 eggsShorted Radeon 7970 , Out $300

Pros: N/A

Cons: Plugged 4-pin fan wire into reference Diamond Radeon 7970 ... computer turned on/off within 1 second , card was toast.

Called Arctic Cooling support, where they pretty much told me "You're the only one this has happened to, it's not our fault."

Now I'm out $300 that my card is currently worth, and have to send the fan back for a refund.

Never had an issue like this in all my years of being a certified A+ tech.

3 out of 5 eggsGood Performance, Poor Engineering

Pros: Cools nearly 20 to 25 degrees less than the stock MSI Twin Frozr III HD7970 OC BE cooler. Quiet and still not too big to fit in the case, even the Accelero Mono Plus is more of a issue in fitment. 3 eggs for the performance, the saving grace part of this review.

Cons: Bad engineering design, always a danger to pull out the pci-e power plug. You have to flex the board/ cooler to unplug them. Wish they made a cut out section to prevent this. RAM/VRM heatsink seem to perform less than the stock setup, but seem to be the norm with these type of coolers. Packages is flimsy and I had a few bent fins, but bent them back to shape as much as possible. The hassle of putting the electric shield taping is an annoying task, there has to be a better way to avoid grounding out? Still using Ontrac, wish Newegg would ship with UPS, FedEX, DHL, USPS, etc, Ontrac has a bad rep. Sure they co-attributed to the bent fins on my cooler. 1 egg off for engineer flaw and 1 egg off for manufacture packaging/Ontrac shipping company.

Other Thoughts: Arctic Cooling needs to improve their engineerings flaw of the power connector area/space issue, current protective tape issue, mounting of the VRM/RAM heatsinks with better thermal performance and maybe include a bracket to prevent flexing from the weight of the cooler.

For Newegg, please stop using Ontrac.

5 out of 5 eggsVery good at its job

Pros: Very quit, lowered my 7950 idle temps by about 10 degrees C, and lowered the 100% load temps by ~15.

Cons: This thing is an absolute NIGHTMARE to install. With almost no directions you have to figure out almost everything by yourself.

Other Thoughts: Make sure you're ready to invest 1-2 hours to install this monster.

4 out of 5 eggsWhisper Quiet

Pros: - Keeps gpu ridiculously cool
- even works on other gpu's its not designed for (I mounted it on my old trophy 8800GTX for lol's, and temps wouldn't go much past 50 while overclocked, which is insane haha)
- Very quiet

Cons: - Installation is a nightmare, even with glue now coming in a tube
- memory cooling is suspect, even with heatsinks firmly in place

Other Thoughts: Only buy this if you want a quiet and cool gpu. You will not get much more performance over a stock cooler, and memory cooling is suspect without good case airflow (due to this coolers airflow being blocked by the giant heatsink overtop of memory).

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Lilke a Dream and Silently

Pros: Silent I change fan speeds and i cannot hear it change speeds or at all at 100%, while litecoin mining with 75 degree ambient temps it is sitting at 55 degree C(fans only 62%) on a XFX 7970-TDFC Dual DVI Dual dissipation overclocked to 1000MHz Core. it is soo much cooler than the 75-80+C i would get with stock cooler. stock fans fail every month and have to keep RMA them i got tired of XFX and the fans so i bought this and all problems solved not only does it cool better but its silent. you cant beat that.

Cons: only con really is how long it took to install which was about 3-4 hours to do it RIGHT. I used Non conductive Arctic Silver Alumina thermal adhesive and it works very well. the included adhesive was pre mixed and already half dry, while I could have finished the install with it I messed up and followed the directions exactly which say to squeeze out entire contents with pliars, but what they dont tell you is this stuff hardens in a matter of 3-5 minutes so i barely got on 2-3 parts before it started to harden with 10+ more pieces needing install this was a problem, I started over scraped it all off and got the arctic silver and re did everything 1-2 pieces at a time.

the card is 2-3 inches longer than before and takes up over 2 case expansion slots. two cards will be the max you fit on a 3 pci-e board. and in order to do that you need a Thermaltake armor series full atx mega tower to clear it, thankfully i have one ... your not getting this in a Antec 300/600/900 ...

the included tape to block shorts fell apart and i could not even peel it off the paper and did not use any, I just made sure nothing touched and to my luck no smoke and flames when turning on the card.

Other Thoughts: I recommend putting out very little adhesive at a time and affixing 1-2 pieces at once and then put out more adhesive and take your time to give maximum clearance from all other devices. I cleaned all surfaces with Q tips and 90% alcohol and dried everything off, also cleaning heat sink surfaces for max bonding.

I bought Akasa or asaka whatever brand adhesive thermal tape to affix the coolers to the voltage regulators because of how many electrical leads there are i put one long piece wide enough to cover both rows of V regs. everything else got thermal adhesive, the tape did not stick very well to the small devices.

If you do the install correct and take your time this product cannot be beat anyone else complaining about install difficulty needs to understand this is just the mechanical/physical requirement to do this job correctly. if you cant install parts without shorting out the unit or fail to clean with alcohol very generously every single component than I am sorry for your failure in advance.

2 out of 5 eggsNot what it's cracked up to be

Pros: The card does decrease temp of XFX DD 7950. It decreased my temps by 10 degrees C

Cons: I expected a much greater decrease in temps. I couldn't fit 2 of these in my case. Wanted to install this on two 7950's. I made it fit, but learned my lesson and ended up bricking one of them. This thing requires a ton of space, be careful if you have a mid-tower or mini.

Other Thoughts: This is great if you only have one gpu and a lot of room in your case. In retrospect, I wouldn't purchase this again, as the decrease in heat was minimal, and the cost is high. Installing this will void your manufactures warranty.

1 out of 5 eggsComplete Garbage!

Pros: None. This thing is a giant waste of time and money.

Cons: Extremely difficult to install. The thermal paste/glue doesn't work, even though I followed instructions to the letter, 2 heat sinks fell off during installation. The fans come with a plug designed to fit on the card, either 3 or 4 pin, great! EXCEPT, they are wired incorrectly. The fans never spin. Didn't realize it was miswired until after I took it apart.

Other Thoughts: Fortunately I am very careful about installs and noticed the fans weren't spinning right away; shut the system down before it bricked my $400 card. I have installed aftermarket heatsinks on video cards more than 20 times, and never had problems like this. I would give it zero eggs if I could. DON'T BUY THIS GARBAGE.

1 out of 5 eggsDont Waste your time

Pros: Install was easy, but the paste was useless I went with Artic Silver

Cons: The heat transfer is poor at best after getting this my card crashed when playing games. I corrected this by calling the MFG and getting a replacement HS & Fan

Other Thoughts: New Egg is a great retailer and my issue was at no way a reflecton on Newegg.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible

Pros: It worked for about a week

Cons: It overheats, plain and simple.
I re-pasted it multiple times with no luck

I RMA'd it, they claimed the PCB was bent and send it back.
I took the card apart once it came back, it isn't bent.
The only thing bending it is that silver frame on the side of the card that says GIGABYTE, once removed the card is straight as a ruler.

So! I bought an Accelero 7970 cooler
It didn't fix the overheating issue. I'm now out 450$ in total and will never buy another Gigabyte product again.
