The Accelero Xtreme 7970 is precisely optimized for the world's first 28nm AMD 7900/7800 series GPUs and offers superior cooling performance in silence. No silent enthusiast or overclocker wants to miss this cooler.

  • newegg Superior Cooling Performance Featuring three 92mm PWM fans with a maximum cooling capacity up to 300 Watts, the Accelero Xtreme 7970 manages to transfer heat efficiently away from the GPU. Besides the 84-fin heatsink with 5 copper heatpipes, the pre-applied MX-4 thermal compound accelerates the heat dissipation process to ensure the VGA board is running under optimal temperature.
  • newegg Enhanced RAM and VR Cooling The Accelero Xtreme 7970 comes with the non-conductive G-1 thermal glue which is used to affix RAM and VR heatsinks on the VGA board. It is especially formulated to offer excellent thermal conductivity with long-lasting adhesiveness of over 10 years. Moreover, removing the G-1 is as easy as removing a thermal tape.
  • newegg Virtually Silent With three PWM-controlled 92 mm fans, the Accelero Xtreme 7970 cools efficiently and silently. Thanks to the PWM control, the fan spins according to the temperature of the GPU. This means that the fans just spin up if necessary and will rest at minimum speed otherwise. PWM settings can be modified to fix the priorities between performance and noise.
  • newegg CrossFire-Compatible Accelero Xtreme 7970 is compatible with the AMD CrossFire technology. It allows you to intelligently scale graphics performance by combining multiple AMD graphic cards on a single CrossFire-Certified motherboard. (The compatibility list is based on AMD Radeon's reference board layout only.)

4 out of 5 eggsHas its flars

Pros: Using this cooler, my max temps are now 50°C in Furmark and 45°C in gaming usage. It is also silent up to ~65% fan speed.

Cons: Size is large, this is a 3 slot card going downward, but it also uses about a third of a slot above the card for the metal bracket. It didn't cause any issues with them placed right on top of each other in crossfire, but it did interfere with my Titanium HD sound card housing. Once I removed the housing on the sound card it fit just fine.

The four screws holding the metal bracket on the top of the card slowly loosen, and will increase temps by as much as 10°C after a few months. Just make sure to re tighten them as routing maintenance when cleaning dust out of your case.

VRM cooling is bad with this fan setup. The GPU keeps so cool the default fan curve set by AMD on my reference 7970s never increases the fan speed to get enough flow to hit the heatsinks on the VRMs effectively. If you don't set the fans to run at minimum of 60% during gaming, the VRMs will hit their max temp and you will get throttled. Good thing is, the fans are still silent at 60% anyway so I run it 65% fan speed 24/7.

Other Thoughts: Overall even with the cons I listed, I think this heatsink was a good investment if you don't plan on upgrading from your 7970 / 280x any time soon. Just be aware I found out the hard way cards with these coolers installed have very low resale value when it comes time to upgrade, worse than a reference card. So keep your original heatsink handy.

5 out of 5 eggsBetter than expected

Pros: Fairly simple to install if you pay attention to the instructions.

Cools amazingly well compared to the stock heatsink.

Quieter than anything else in my case surprisingly. The fans really only run at 900 rpm most of the time.

Cons: Considering this heatsink is only attached to the board by 4 screws, the entire assembly is somewhat floppy at the moment. Yes I miss the strength the stock heatsink provided, however the temps are well worth it.

Other Thoughts: I have a XFX 7970 Core Edition and the stock temps were quite unacceptable. This cooler did not disappoint.

Temps with the stock heatsink: 60 idle ~ 85 load
Temps with the new heatsink: 50 idle ~ 65 load

It's quite simple to install as long as you do your research ahead of time. Simply reading the instructions and identifying the obvious components you need to put heatsinks on is all you have to do.

The thermal-tape replacement goo is easy to apply and cures within an hour. I put a thin film on the bottom of each heatsink and it's perfect.

I replaced the stock thermal paste with Shin-Etsu g751. I'm sure it adds to the low temperatures.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent cooling

Pros: I have two of these and they keep my video cards significantly cooler than the stock coolers, More importantly they are almost silent, even when the fans are turned up to 100%.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works. Cools much better than the dual-x cooler on my sapphire 7950. Running 925/1200 at 90C load and noisy on the old cooler, running 1100/1425 at 50C load and dead quiet even at 100% fan speed. Could definitely push way past that, but I'm playing it safe for now.

Cons: I can understand why it would take 3-4 hours to install, directions are passable but unclear in some parts.

Other Thoughts: Took maybe 2 hours to slap onto my 7950, luckily enough, my chip locations were similar enough to the reference card detailed in the instructions, so there wasn't any headache in where to stick the smaller heatsinks.

Took the advice of the reviews and used AS-5 on the main cooler and AATA-5G on the small heatsinks, I can't say anything about the compound supplied on the main cooler and for the small heatsinks as I didn't use them, but I can assume that it would be worth shelling out the extra $15-20 for better stuff.

4 out of 5 eggsits worth every penny

Pros: i bought this one for two reson my sapphire R9-280 dual x fans crapped out replacing them was about 30$ and with the stock cooler was unable to keep it kool always around 90+ c with this one on full load average 55 so its efficient but...

Cons: like every one said its a pain to install for some reason the first time there was no heat transfer had to uninstall and i reapplied my own heat paste second thing the tube that supposed to be used to stick the small heat sink was already cured inside the tube i had to find a way since i have no such glue at home... i used termal paste and i hope it will dry and stick so far so good they are holding

Other Thoughts: been running non stop since the repair and so far so good

CAREFULL: this thing is huge way longer then a r9 290x i had to stretch some cable to fit it in the case

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cools down the card great, the best part about the card is those 3 fans and the memory heat sinks, which are very important that they stay cool since most artifacting happens when the memory chip on this card goes beyond the 78C threshold.

Cons: Hard to install, not difficult, just time consuming, and tedious, smoke a bowl and intake some brews to take breaks in between installs, the pre-applied thermal paste is never enough for me, I alway use artic-silver on anything inside my computer, great paste!

Other Thoughts: Would of bought sooner, but its a bit on the pricey side.

1 out of 5 eggsNearly fried my HD7970

Pros: Fast shipping on Newegg's part.

Cons: Spent nearly four hours putting this on and once it had set for awhile we tried it out. My GPU temps were erratic and made my PC shut off each time booted up. Ended up cleaning the factory gpu fan (used new thermal gel) and put it back on only for everything to be fine. Followed the instructions closely and also watched some step by step videos on the internet on how to install. I can only assume I received a defective one.

1 out of 5 eggsShorted Radeon 7970 , Out $300

Pros: N/A

Cons: Plugged 4-pin fan wire into reference Diamond Radeon 7970 ... computer turned on/off within 1 second , card was toast.

Called Arctic Cooling support, where they pretty much told me "You're the only one this has happened to, it's not our fault."

Now I'm out $300 that my card is currently worth, and have to send the fan back for a refund.

Never had an issue like this in all my years of being a certified A+ tech.

3 out of 5 eggsGood Performance, Poor Engineering

Pros: Cools nearly 20 to 25 degrees less than the stock MSI Twin Frozr III HD7970 OC BE cooler. Quiet and still not too big to fit in the case, even the Accelero Mono Plus is more of a issue in fitment. 3 eggs for the performance, the saving grace part of this review.

Cons: Bad engineering design, always a danger to pull out the pci-e power plug. You have to flex the board/ cooler to unplug them. Wish they made a cut out section to prevent this. RAM/VRM heatsink seem to perform less than the stock setup, but seem to be the norm with these type of coolers. Packages is flimsy and I had a few bent fins, but bent them back to shape as much as possible. The hassle of putting the electric shield taping is an annoying task, there has to be a better way to avoid grounding out? Still using Ontrac, wish Newegg would ship with UPS, FedEX, DHL, USPS, etc, Ontrac has a bad rep. Sure they co-attributed to the bent fins on my cooler. 1 egg off for engineer flaw and 1 egg off for manufacture packaging/Ontrac shipping company.

Other Thoughts: Arctic Cooling needs to improve their engineerings flaw of the power connector area/space issue, current protective tape issue, mounting of the VRM/RAM heatsinks with better thermal performance and maybe include a bracket to prevent flexing from the weight of the cooler.

For Newegg, please stop using Ontrac.

5 out of 5 eggsVery good at its job

Pros: Very quit, lowered my 7950 idle temps by about 10 degrees C, and lowered the 100% load temps by ~15.

Cons: This thing is an absolute NIGHTMARE to install. With almost no directions you have to figure out almost everything by yourself.

Other Thoughts: Make sure you're ready to invest 1-2 hours to install this monster.
