Accelero Xtreme IV 280(X)

Unmatched Cooling Performance

Accelero Xtreme IV 280(X)

With a cooling capacity of 300 Watts, the Accelero Xtreme IV 280 X offers an unmatched cooling performance. The three 92mm PWM fans and the pre-applied MX-4 thermal compound ensure efficient cooling, even under overclocking.

Rear Cooler for Highest Efficiency

Accelero Xtreme IV 280(X)

ARCTIC has developed and patented a rear side cooler for unparalleled VRM and RAM cooling performance. It offers efficient cooling for RAM and voltage regulators and thus does not just allow higher clock rates but mainly increases the graphics card's service life.

Accelero Xtreme IV 280(X)

Installation Without Thermal Glue

Up to now the meticulous work of attaching different heatsinks with thermal glue was necessary. Thanks to the innovative rear plate this is a thing of the past. Without any thermal glue the graphics card can be returned to its original condition any time without leaving marks or residue.

Accelero Xtreme IV 280(X)

Accelero Xtreme IV 280(X)

Virtually Silent

Its low noise impeller and patented fan holder ensures the fan is ultra-quiet even under full load. Thanks to the PWM control, the fan speed adjusts according to the GPU temperature and thus the noise level remains at an absolute minimum.

Accelero Xtreme IV 280(X)

Special Design for AMD R9
280(X) Graphics Card

Accelero Xtreme IV 280(X) is especially made for the 280(X) graphics card to provide superior cooling performance of the GPU as well as efficient heat dissipation for all components surrounding it.

New Fan Controller

An improved fan controller and the use of additional filters guarantee a smooth operation. Through software, the temperature-fan speed curve can be adjusted. No matter whether you are a hardcore-gamer or a silent enthusiast, you get the temperature and noise level exactly where you want it to be.

5 out of 5 eggsQuieter and 20C cooler

Pros: HD Radeon 7950 down from 82C to 62C while running heaven benchmark.
Quieter than even the gigabyte windforce 3 fans, which was replaced by this.

Cons: Somewhat long and unclear process to install when following supplied instructions. Good thing there is good online resources.
Quite big too, won't fit all cases (did fit bitfenix phantom M).

Other Thoughts: This will reduce the sound and temperature of the GPU for sure if well installed

5 out of 5 eggsAwesomeness!!!

Pros: -Super quiet
-Highly efficient
-Great Bang/$ ratio
-+45 MHz max core OC vs. stock cooler(and that's without having the back-side heatsink installed, due to mobo design)

Cons: -Fans are too slow for my taste(I wish 100% was 3000 or 4000 rpm...instead of 2000 rpm)

Other Thoughts: I have this cooler installed on my MSI 280X Gaming 3GB. Which, despite the card being "too wide" according to the manual(more than 98mm), works almost perfectly with it. The only slight incapitibility issue there is not being able to install the "graphics card holder"(because of the card's extra width). But due to that extra size/width of the card, and the use of the stock support bracket(designed to help hold up the quite heavy Twin Frozr IV cooler), the card doesn't seem to be very weighed down by it. Meaning, the "graphics card holder" probably isn't even necessary. With my setup at least. Though my setup, at the moment, doesn't allow for the use of the back-side heatsink either(mobo only has 1 PCI-E slot, the wrong one for total compatibility with this cooler). Which, if also installed, might start to push the limits of how much weight the card can take without eventually bending. But I can probably think of about 1000 other ways to deal with that particular issue, should it arise.

Anyways, I'm a chronic overclockoholic. And the ARCTIC Accelero Xtreme IV 280(X) Enthusiast has fully satisfied my need for the best VGA air cooler money can buy. Two thumbs up from a VERY happy tweaker here.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat cooler

Pros: Great cooler with lots of potential.
-Three quite fans
-Easy installation
-Low temps (with one card only)
-Nice backplate to cool vrms

Cons: -Support bracket will not work if you have a crossfire setup (it covers crossfire bridges)
-still gets hot when in crossfire with the other card (~76c) mostly due to the small space between cards - not enough cool air between two cards.
-I have adequate air flow in my case (corsair 650d) with lots of aftermarket cougar 120 & 140mm fans. Cards still get hot when overclocking my 7950s to 1100/1500.
-Price is crazy for this. Save your money and get a cheaper accelero 7970 extreme arctic cooler...

IMHO this one is not worth $100.

5 out of 5 eggsBetter than expected

Pros: - Support bracket (stops the card from bending under cooler's weight).
- 3 very quiet large fans
- Best vrm & vram cooling solution for aftermarket coolers
- Directions weren't as bad as people make them out to be

Cons: - Difficult to setup and assemble (not because of directions but because it is a longer process than originally anticipated).
- Thick. Sometimes it's hard to see underneath the card and to place your finger to unlock the PCI-e locking mechanism.
- Difficult to remove the card from PCI-e slot due to bulkiness.

Other Thoughts: I have an MSI Twin Frozr 7950 and from the start I didn't like how loud it was and how ineffective the GPU cooling solution is. I purchased a Gelid Solutions ICY Cool Rev 2 and it was great until the copper started to bend due to the heat. The heatsinks they provide for the vrm and vram chips are pathetic. So after deciding on whether spending $300 on a new card or $100 on a cooling solution, I figure I'd go with the later.

That being said, this cooler was no easy task and does require a lot of work to assemble. However, in the end, everything is about 10-20C cooler. My vrms stays under 65C playing BF4 and my GPU never goes above 61C (being overclocked +100mhz).

The biggest selling point for me was the support bracket with this cooler. My video card started to bend with the weight of the ICY Cool Rev 2 as the weight was only on the GPU and that's it.

5 out of 5 eggsIncredible!

Pros: Lowered my MSI 280x Gaming Card temp by 10+ degree's Celsius!
Use it to mine litecoins but was way too hot, even undervolted!
Now I can get 700+KH/s at 70~degrees
Also very quiet compared to the howling stock fan!!

Cons: Installation is time consuming and instructions aren't too clear. However with some patience it's well worth it!

Not only do you install the heat sink and fan, but it requires a back plate heat sink which requires sticky foam conductors
