The ultimate in airflow to noise ratio, iXtrema Pro Quiet Fans are the only fans in the industry to be designed with silence and optimal airflow in mind. A smaller, domed motor hub with a larger, more dramatic fan blade sweep area, no other fans on the market come even close in performance! There might be fans that offer more airflow or lower noise levels, but when it comes to a balance between the two, these fans can't be beat.

  • newegg Forward Sweep Fan Blades The exotic fan blade design has nearly twice the surface area per fin than most conventional fans, allowing far more air to be pushed per revolution than fans without the unique forward sweep blade design.
  • newegg Smaller Domed Motor Shape iXtrema Pro Quiet Fans feature a motor size smaller than other fans, maximizing the lateral area to facilitate airflow movement. Not only is this dead space reduced, a domed top allows for better aerodynamics and therefore, reduced air turbulence.
  • newegg Hybrid Motor Bearing System Ball bearings are prone to vibration causing too much noise. Sleeve bearings have a short lifespan. With the use of harder materials for the bearings and larger lubricant capacity, longer life and minimal vibration can be achieved.
  • newegg Silicone Vibration Dampeners Use the included silicone vibration dampening mounts to minimize vibration even further. By utilizing the mounts, vibration from the fan will not be transmitted to the casing, thereby preventing unwanted “rattling” noise from the case.

2 out of 5 eggsQuiet while they last.

Pros: Three of these were silent and kept a large switch cool.

Cons: Began failing/making noise with 6 weeks of use.

Other Thoughts: Bought 3 of these to replace the LOUD stock fans in a 48 port switch that was not being used in a business environemnt.

4 out of 5 eggsVery quiet - low airflow

Pros: Very quiet

Cons: low airflow

Other Thoughts: These are incredibly quiet fans. As such, they have a lower RPM and subsequently a lower airflow. As long as you don't need a lot of airflow these are perfect to make that air-ripping device silent.

2 out of 5 eggsShort lifespan

Pros: Ran for a little over a year as a Via C7 CPU cooler on top of a SilenX IXN-40C heatsink. Very quiet, but does not push much air. Was barely able to cool the 2GHz CPU in a small Mini-ITX case.

Cons: Bearings started making noise and within a couple days it was stopping on its own due to failed bearings, causing the system to shutdown due to CPU overheating.

Other Thoughts: I changed to a GELID Silent 4 40mm fan with fluid dynamic bearings, time will tell how long it lasts.

3 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: Quite

Cons: None so far...

Other Thoughts: I had this same fan on my motherboard's northbridge heatsink and does the job.

2 out of 5 eggsNo way its 5 CFM

Pros: Its quiet, and decently priced.

Cons: No way this fan actually produces 5cfm, I have several Sunon 5cfm fans and they produce a far better airflow. And they last forever.

Other Thoughts: So far its functioned well enough, I bought this because it was $5 less expensive than the Sunon fans a mistake I wont repeat.

1 out of 5 eggsPoorest

Pros: Good ad copy (b.s.)

Cons: The bearing, as made, are the poorest. All have failed (noise) in an unacceptable time of use. This requires changing out the fan which = labor expense and lost time for other activities.

Other Thoughts: I gotta tell ya, I bought 4 of these for use in a "composting toilet" (google it). The installation requires 24X7 operation and it's on a boat running from 800 lbs of battery. So, the low amp draw was a factor in selection. However, I estimate the real cost, to me, is 4 to 6 times the cost of each fan.

2 out of 5 eggsPoor quality. Does not last long.

Pros: Quiet when new

Cons: I've got several of these fans and all have failed in a few months from a day of purchase. The failure is a loud noise that starts coming from a fan when it operates. Lubrication fixes it, but not for long. Additionally, two out of 4 purchased fans exhibited quite a noticeable vibration caused by poor balancing of moving part. This certainly leads to a louder fan operation.

Other Thoughts: Will not buy Silenx fans again

1 out of 5 eggsNot recommended

Pros: 10mm profile

Cons: I installed this fan in a horizontal orientation with upward airflow on a chipset heatsink. The bearings became noisy after two months of operation with a variable voltage fan controller. Not recommended.

1 out of 5 eggsLow quality, Low lifetime

Pros: Starts off very quiet.

Cons: High price, short lifetime. After about 6 months, the bearing started binding up when cold and making a terrible noise. After about 5 minutes, the friction in the bearings would cause it to warm up and then go quiet until next time.

Other Thoughts: Only buy this fan if you want to replace it again within 6-12 months.

2 out of 5 eggsDidn't last as long as expected

Pros: Quiet. I didn't have problems with the frames as some of the other posters did.

Cons: Longevity. Made horrible noises as they died a slow painful death.

Other Thoughts: Bought two of these to replace the original case fans for a customer. Installed them a year or so ago and here I am today buying more replacements because these have quit. They are nice and quit when they were working but I think they should have lasted longer. No complaints other than longevity. I won't buy these again as I can't keep coming back and replacing the same fans every year or so.
