SilenX IXP-64-09 92mm Case Fan

The ultimate in airflow to noise ratio, iXtrema Pro Quiet Fans are the only fans in the industry to be designed with silence and optimal airflow in mind. A smaller, domed motor hub, with a larger, more dramatic fan blade sweep area, no other fans on the market come even close in performance! There might be fans that offer more airflow or lower noise levels, but when it comes to a balance between the two, these fans can't be beat.

  • newegg Forward Sweep Fan Blades The exotic fan blade design has nearly twice the surface area per fin than most conventional fans, allowing far more air to be pushed per revolution than fans without the unique forward sweep blade design.
  • newegg Smaller Domed Motor Shape iXtrema Pro Quiet Fans feature a motor size smaller than other fans, maximizing the lateral area to facilitate airflow movement. Not only is this dead space reduced, a domed top allows for better aerodynamics and therefore, reduced air turbulence.
  • newegg Hybrid Motor Bearing System Ball bearings are prone to vibration causing too much noise. Sleeve bearings have a short lifespan. With the use of harder materials for the bearings and larger lubricant capacity, longer life and minimal vibration can be achieved.
  • newegg Silicone Vibration Dampeners Use the included silicone vibration dampening mounts to minimize vibration even further. By utilizing the mounts, vibration from the fan will not be transmitted to the casing, thereby preventing unwanted “rattling” noise from the case.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Wow. What a shock. This fan is so much quieter than the ones I swapped out. And the CFM's are much better than other fans in this dba range. The temps in my PC case is running a bit cooler. Definitely worth the upgrade.

Cons: Packaging didn't look really appealing.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Awesome fan!!! I am buying 10 of these (80mm and 92mm) for all the machines in my office. At first I was skeptical because the fan was spinning slower (it is practically noiseless). When I checked the status on the sensors – it works great. The temperature of the CPU and MB is about 28-30 ºC (82-86 ºF) for a dual core 5200 AMD. I can’t ask for more. The loudest device in the office is the small fridge (which I will through away, probably).

Cons: NONE!!!

2 out of 5 eggsNOT 9dBA

Pros: Shape of blades and small hub probably allow this fan to have decent airflow to decibel ratio.

Cons: Specs are made up. Bought 2 of these but they are LOUDER than the 2 fans rated at 14dBA I already have that SilenX fans were supposed to replace.

Other Thoughts: Returned for refund and ate restocking fee. These are decent fans and ARE very quiet. (provided they don't break down on you like my 80mm SilenX did after 24 hours). But if you are looking for a 9dBA fan with decent airflow - this is not your fan. Running them at lower voltage would make them virtually silent. But you can do that with just about any fan at the expense of lower air flow...

3 out of 5 eggsFool me once, shame on you...

Pros: Fairly quiet. Easily attains 9db with no power applied.

Cons: 1100rpm advertised - reality is 1200rpm making it too loud for front mounting in a case positioned near the monitor. Way too expensive for what you get. Would have rma'd but penalty + shipping cost was prohibitive.

Other Thoughts: Other brands half the price + a fanmate or 5-volt adapter are more sensible if silence is desired. As odd as this might sound, tests have shown that black fans are better, quieter coolers.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat HTPC Fan

Pros: Very quiet, over a year of 24/7 performance

Cons: May not move enough air for some applications

Other Thoughts: Virtually silent fan. Can't hear it over hard drives, etc. Comes with rubber mounting grommets to minimize vibration.

2 out of 5 eggsHORRIBLE

Pros: Decent air flow

Cons: Everything else. I bought about 6 of these fans 3 92mm and 3 120mm. first I installed 2 92mm fans, both as exhaust fans on my and my bro's rigs. after 2 days, mine started making whining noise, and the next day the fan seized. somehow the blades stretched or the housing caved in, but whatever the reason was, the fan blades were stuck and could not move, and not only that but the oil shot out all over the inside of the fan housing. I checked my bro's one and it was still running "alright", but the motor was hot to the touch. the very next day his failed in the exactly the same manner as mine. I opened the rest of the fans and tested them all, and all of them ran hot to the touch, so my guess would be that the motor might be cause of all the failures. so Im left with 4 other fans that are poorly made/designed and I cant return them because I the shipping will cost me more than the fans, so Im stuck with this junk. Im even embarrased to sell them on craigslist or something.

Other Thoughts: Ironically, I bought these fans to replace my Scythe S-flex fans. So far, I havent come across better fans than the S-flex's.

5 out of 5 eggsThe sound of silence

Pros: - Quietest 92mm I have ever "heard". Totally silent.
- Chromed blades look neat.
- Comes with silicone antivibration mounts. Overkill perhaps but a nice touch.
- Excellent dBa to CFM ratio.

Cons: - Expensive, but you do get value for money.

Other Thoughts: Finally someone did some proper Computational Fluid Dynamics on a fan. The blades are forward swept and the spinner is conical. As every aerogeek knows, this will mitigate boundary layer separation and tip vortex formation. In other words: less turbulent air leading to less noise.

Scythe S-Flex is the quietest 120mm. This is the quietest 92mm. My computer is now silent except for the highly muffled drives.

5 out of 5 eggsQuiet and Effective

Pros: Nice to see Newegg get these babies. They are expensive, but do what they say they'll do,

Cons: Hopefully, they won't leak oil all over my MOB, like some folks claim they have a propensity to do.
