system builder
- Pros: Quietest aftermarket cpu heatsink I've ever used. If properly installed and in use with a retention bracket, this can be one of the best heatsinks out there. The fan may look flimsy, but it's quiet and works quite well with the flow of my case.
CPU temps: The average idle ~23 C The average load ~35 C
I have never seen the temps past 40 C, ever. CPU: Intel Q9400 OC'ed to 3.6 ghz. Mobo: GA-EP45-UD3P Case: Coolermaster 690 (stock fans only) Video: XFX GTX 260
Great product from a great company. I found the customer service from this company to be outstanding.
- Cons: The installation took a while (see other thoughts).
The metal fins can be bent very easily if you're too forceful when mounting the fan on the heatsink.
I really wish OCZ would include the retention bracket with such a heavy heatsink. I highly recommend anyone using a 120mm cpu heatsink to buy a rentention bracket for the installation. I've seen motherboards warped from the weight of the heatsink.
I really prefer a solid copper base as oppose to the mixed copper pipes and ceramic base. But the heatsink does a great job at cooling, so this isn't really a con. Just a preference.
This heat sink is huge, it would be best to check the measurements of your case before buying this product. I barely have a 1 cm clearance from my the side panel of my case. You might have to take a fan off the side panel in order for the heatsink to fit. I did.
- Other Thoughts: I live in southern California and my house doesn't have any central AC. In other words, it can get down right nasty when it comes to high heat in my area. I bought this heatsink in the middle of the summer because I saw cpu temps reaching a dangerous high, so I decided to do away with the stock intel cooler and install this.
The installation took a good couple of hours because i had to basically disassemble my rig piece by piece. I'd recommend you do the same. You can clear some clutter and blow out dust to improve the air flow in your case. Again, I recommend buying the retention bracket with this product. I'll admit installing an aftermarket heatsink is no easy task with any product, but this one will take you awhile, especially if you want to do it right.
Although there are fairly other great products out on the market, I highly recommend this product because of the silent fan and great cpu temps. It really is one of the best heatsinks out on the market.
Whining fan
- Pros: Keeps CPU cool.
- Cons: I've been trying to build a near silent computer and I'm almost there except the fan that comes with this heat sink has a whining sound. I unplugged the fan and yup, there is no doubt about the source of the sound. My Antec P182 case dampers the sound a little but still very noticeable. It is a bit annoying. Additionally, the fan speed does not drop down below 1,100 RPM's. I know my motherboard is capable of variable fan speeds because I would watch the stock Intel fan RPM's change.
- Other Thoughts: Comes with push pins... it's kind of a pain but I already knew that. Didn't knock down any eggs for it since it's in the description.

Manufacturer Response:Hello, if your motherboard's fan controller is properly set up it should drop the fan's RPM to an acceptable level. We are not sure how familiar you are with fan control, but we will be happy to assist you with settings on our support forums at the link below. Thank you

Solid
- Pros: Very good cooling. I have this on a Biostar 790gx 128m cooling a PhenomII 720BE @ 3.5 ghz set to 1.367 v in an antec 300 case. Idle temps are 21 c while load temps are 30 C. Brought my temps down by about 20 C on avg and opened my overclocking up by 300 mhz over the stock cooler. Whisper quiet.
- Cons: Just barely fits my case LOL but not really a con.
- Other Thoughts: Always research parts before you get them to make sure they fit your application. This is a solid product. Bottom line it cools very well over a stock cooler and is quiet.
