5 out of 5 eggsVery Simple Installation

This review is from: Antec KUHLER H2O 1250 Water/Liquid CPU Cooler 240MM

Pros: I have to first start off saying those that complain of fumbling with backplates and mounting brackets must be doing it all wrong. This was one of the simplest CPU coolers to mount I've had (besides finding a place for the radiator). The CPU block itself was VERY simple, took zero force, and is extremely solid. I have no idea where these people come up with their problems.

Cons: The only big negative I stumbled on was DO NOT try to remove the protetive film from the CPU block. It is not protective film but will remove the entire Antec logo with it. To me it looked like I should remove it so I did. Oh well not a huge deal. I also don't like how the Grid control software prompts to run on startup every time, even when clicking "do not prompt again". Very annoying so I simply removed it from startup through MSCONFIG. Nothing worth deducting an egg on.

Other Thoughts: And I have to reiterate, this thing is VERY easy to install. Even though I do like the cooler, it doesn't seem to cool as good as I hoped, but perhaps that is just my CPU. Running an i7 3770K overclocked from 3.5 to 4.6GHz. Temps idle at 30C but get close or slightly above 90C on PRIME95, which seems pretty high. This is at 1.4V, which is probably higher than I need it, but since everything is rock stable I'm ok with that. I was just hoping for much better temps on full load; like 70C. Perhaps that is unrealistic though.

1 out of 5 eggsBad quality control, pumps bad on multiple units

This review is from: Antec KUHLER H2O 1250 Water/Liquid CPU Cooler 240MM

Pros: Dual pump design gives your system the security of having a failsafe in case one pump dies, the other can still cool your system.

Cons: Horrible reliability. Pumps on 2 different units began making clicking, grinding noises within an hour of installation, the second one was grinding immediately after installation. After trying 2 different Antec coolers, I exchanged for a Corsair H110.

Other Thoughts: I had high hopes for this cooler, and it provided great cooling during the first benchmark I did before it started to make noise. Building the pump into the fan makes this a very unique design and I liked the look of it, but it makes it impossible to replace fans if they fail.

5 out of 5 eggs1250 Antec H2O

This review is from: Antec KUHLER H2O 1250 Water/Liquid CPU Cooler 240MM

Pros: Fabulous cooling, does exactly what it says it will do and then some. Its a big radiator and I know some people have complained about installation, this is usually due to inexperience and poor case selection. Everyone who bought this cooler knew how big it was prior to purchase, but your case preference will be one of the biggest issues not the cooler, re: Thermaltake (easy as 1,2,3) overseer vs nzxt (this was a tough install as there is no real mounting area for a 240 mil rad)

Cons: need to match the case to the rad size, seem to have a higher than average issue with loud pumps. I have to return one due to carzy loud pump (1 of 2 purchased)

Other Thoughts: other than the one loud pump I have been running antec liquid coolers for 3 years now and I really cant say anything bad about them they do what they are supposed to do period.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked Great, When it Worked...

This review is from: Antec KUHLER H2O 1250 Water/Liquid CPU Cooler 240MM

Pros: Great performance, nice led setup

Cons: Hard to install, died after 2 months (one fan died completely). It seems these units have real reliability issues, which is a shame since this CLC is a unique design.

1 out of 5 eggsDust will kill the fans and therefore the cooler

This review is from: Antec KUHLER H2O 1250 Water/Liquid CPU Cooler 240MM

Pros: Worked great when it worked. Kept temps real low.

Cons: Problem is the fan is the pump. This means, no replacing them if they fail from dust/etc. and the coolant won't flow anymore.

Other Thoughts: Stay away from this cooler if you live in a dusty environment and/or have pets. My filtered case didn't help.

2 out of 5 eggsWeak even if it wasn't defective

This review is from: Antec KUHLER H2O 1250 Water/Liquid CPU Cooler 240MM

Pros: Decent cooling performance
Neat LED system and software
Beautiful piece of equipment if your case has a window

Cons: Brutal to mount
Noisy fans
Fans that drone
My particular unit was defective

Other Thoughts: The mounting of this cooler is made ridiculously difficult for no apparent gain. This wasn't apparent to me while I was mounting this particular cooler, but when I mounted its replacement (X61 Kraken) which went on with no force required. You should not be required to apply as much force as the Kuhler requires to mount (and yes I used a screwdriver).

My particular unit was defective, making a grinding and popping for hours after booting the PC. After trying the fixes from Antec support (tilting, shaking, changing orientation) to no effect, I was advised to RMA by Antec support. I refuse to pay to cross ship, as required, so I bought a competitor's product from a B&M location that I could easily return to if I had similar issues.

Even on silent, the fans are audible, and worse, they make a droning sound that is much more distracting if you are not a headphone user. On 'performance' mode, you'd be hard pressed to hear your vacuum over the sound of your cooler. In their defense, 'silent' mode is so good you'd rarely ever need performance mode.

And that is the biggest shame in my opinon. The cooler works well, even my defective one kept my i7-5930k silly amounts of cool. And it looked amazing to boot. It really is a little piece of modern art for your case. But requiring me to put a significant amount of my body weight into my $1000 CPU/Mobo combo in order to mount the cooler is a show stopper. Asking me to do it again because your first cooler was defective is a no go. When quieter, better cooling is readily available, you lose a client.

2 out of 5 eggsGood, but unreliable

This review is from: Antec KUHLER H2O 1250 Water/Liquid CPU Cooler 240MM

Pros: This is a great cooling unit. It kept my AMD 8350 at idle under 28C. When under load, it would stay under 43C. Much better than my Corsair H100. On silent, this is super quiet, sometimes I forget that it is there. I would honestly recommend this. Please read the cons though.

Cons: Installation is a total pain. I have an NZXT Crafted Series Phantom case. Still had a rough time installing this cooler. I had to really maneuver this so it wouldn't bump the RAM.

After installing it, it ran great for about 3-4 months. Then, on bootup, it started freaking out and not sending an RPM to the unit. So the fans will stay between 80-200 rpms. Which keeps my cpu under 48C while browsing the internet. I dare not game. Looks like their software failed miserably. And yes, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software (and did an update) before all the haters come out.

Other Thoughts: The system itself is fantastic, but the software failed. Yet again an amazing product is released with a subpar backend system that will ruin it.

4 out of 5 eggsLarge and in charge

This review is from: Antec KUHLER H2O 1250 Water/Liquid CPU Cooler 240MM

Pros: Minimal noise when on the silent mode. Somewhat easy installation of unit.

Cons: The included software doesnt have any way to designate when to increase the RPM of the fans. Also VERY large in size, I had to use two of the extenders to get far enough away from my motherboard.

Other Thoughts: Im hoping to get more of the extender brackets for the unit, since for mine to fit I had to double up on one. Ive never delt with Antec customer service so Im hoping this is a smooth transaction.

1 out of 5 eggsMultiple bad pumps - stay away!

This review is from: Antec KUHLER H2O 1250 Water/Liquid CPU Cooler 240MM

Pros: Interesting design

Cons: Returned two units in a row due to faulty pumps (excessive noise). These were brand new shrinkwrapped boxes.

Mounting backplate is a pain - not shaped well and makes screwing down the cooler a pain.

Other Thoughts: Stay far away from this one. Excessive pump noise on multiple units leads me to believe that there are serious QA problems with this line. I'm returning the replacement and getting something else.

3 out of 5 eggsAntec Kuhler H2) 1250 Problem

This review is from: Antec KUHLER H2O 1250 Water/Liquid CPU Cooler 240MM

Pros: Easy to install in Antec 1100 V2 case. See Antec website for compatible cases - not many.
Keeps temps lower, than without it.

Cons: Backplate flimsy. Tightening 4 cooler head retaining screws easily strips the backplate plastic around the retaining nuts, so you're never sure that you have a good thermal transfer from CPU to the Antec cooler head. I have a 5.5 degree C difference between Bios temp reading and the Antec Grid Controller Program.

Other Thoughts: 1250 design problem - the backplate. The thin plastic around the 4 flush nuts is not strong enough to retain the nuts while tightening the 4 cooler head screws. A last retainer nut started turning in the plastic holder while tightening the last of the four cooling head mounting screws. There's now a 5.5 degree Celsius difference between ASUS motherboard Bios CPU temp reading and the Antec Grid Program, so heat transfer may not be optimal. Antec said grab the nut with a needlenose and tighten the screw, a workaround, but only one edge of the nut is exposed. The rest is flush in the plastic backplate. Grabbing one edge of the nut and the other plastic side, and the nut still turns while trying to tighten. Antec eventually said they would order me a new backplate. I suggested they redesign the backplate to avoid this easy to duplicate problem. The backplate securing method appears flimsy, and it is. I should add that 3 of the mounting screws firmly attached to the backplate inset nuts. Not so with the fourth, and yes, I did follow their instructions in how to tighten the screws. I'm trying to protect a very expensive CPU and I'm just not getting the cooling that I feel is available. Goes up to 37.5 degrees C just playing Crysis 3 (their Grid Program reading), which means the Bios temp would be about 43 degrees C. Just be careful in tightening those cooler head screws. It's very easy to strip the plastic holding the retaining nut for the cooler head screw. I was careful and it still became a problem.
